We booked 2 nights at the Portland over New Year. Myself, my partner and our two Border collies were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay. The room was very clean, a good size and came with all the essentials e.g. Desk, mirrors, plenty of lighting. Our room didn't have a TV remote which wasn't a huge problem once...

Had an excellent stay the two of us with a dog . Admit the hotel was tired looking but it made up in cleanliness of rooms and friendliness of staff. Breakfast was very good and the hotel was in easy walking distance of the town.

In its hey day this hotel was probably quite grand however its now in need of a complete re vamp, although to be fair the owner does try his best The first room allocated (20) broken toilet seat on arrival was swiftly changed the following morning however the shower dribbled patheticly we changed rooms to 19 on the whole it's...

Stayed over between Christmas and New year. Hotel is slightly dated in decor but all buildings in Buxton are similar, nice and clean just needs modernising. Superior double had a new bathroom but room was dated. Refurbishment was being organised during our stay. Nice breakfast and friendly staff, good location as a base for visiting Buxton.

Stayed for two nights December. Very warm welcome on arrival, room and bathroom newly refurbished, coffee and tea making facilities, clean bedding, good variety at breakfast , well cooked and presented. Yes the outside needs some tlc, but this is work in progress so don't let it put you off a visit. Short stroll to Buxton centre. Very good value...

Admit that our bathroom needed updating and our bedroom wardrobe could have been more period to fit in with the character of our room, however we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely welcome, which made such a big impression, and a huge room which included two comfortable chairs in a bay window as well. Very, very comfortable bed and crisp white...

The Portland Hotel may have seen better days, but last night we overnighted there. My first impression from the outside wasn't good. It is a wonderful building needing a good dose of TLC. But don't be put off! We had a wonderful newly refurbished, bay windowed room. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped with modern TV and drink making...

There is warm and friendly feel to the building, with a beautifully laid out breakfast room that serves a delicious full english breakfast and a range of cereals and toast. There is also soap and a kettle in all the rooms.

Stayed overnight on 28th October. We were delighted with our newly decorated rooms. The end suit was lovely. All spotlessly clean. Great breakfast too. Very friendly staff. Well worth the money. The town is literally 2 minutes walk away with a host of bars and restaurants. We ate Barbarellas and would highly recommend it.
