Once again had a great overnight stay at this charming little hotel. Staff fantastic - nothing too much trouble - and lovely clean room and wonderful breakfast. I will return. Some parking at the front of hotel, and easy walking distance to theatre and shops/restaurants. Fantastic location.

A party of nine of us booked for a weekend. The manager made us all very welcome. Although the hotel is under renovation, with some rooms possibly completed, this hotel is ok. Some rooms looking a bit tired, but I'm sure the owner will modernise other rooms in time. A few minor issues in bedrooms but I'm sure these will...

Great location, close to everything, nice breakfast, updated rooms. Very close to The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House, short walk to shops and places to eat. Friendly staff. Would not be good if you can not walk up stairs. I will go back in the fall.

After reading some of the previous reviews I was a little apprehensive about staying at The Portland Hotel but all my worries were unfounded because it's a lovely hotel. It was spotlessly clean throughout. Our room was really nice and the en suite was fantastic. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The twin room we had was dirty and overlooked what looked like a demolition site. The staff seemed to be trying hard in the circumstances. I would never go there again unless they refurbish the lot. Bathroom had mildew behind the loo and on a lot of the pipes. The chair had bits of hair and possibly crumbs? on it....

I stayed here in January in a double room. The hotel is dated but it adds character. The owner was lovely and was very polite and helpful. Room was scrupulously clean and well appointed. It has everything you need including breakfast which was very nice and there was a variety of hot and cold foods to choose from. Will definitely...

Stayed over the weekend of 27-29th Jan Booked this place as it looked ok for a great January deal, It's an old Victorian hotel which hasn't had a major makeover, however the room was comfortable and very well heated considering how cold it was outside, with a clean modern shower room, bed was very hard and furnishing a bit dated,...

Like so many others, we booked here because they accept dogs and are in a good location. The hotel is a bit dated and is currently being revamped so this should be sorted out soon. The staff are very friendly, the rooms clean and very big so we had a great stay. After checking out and driving away, I discovered...

Before I state the not to good things about the portland hotel, there are some positives: - very friendly and helpful staff - fantastic location, directly opposite a beautiful park, a 3 min walk from the opera house and a 10 min walk to the town - dog friendly !! HOWEVER: - hotel was incredibly 'tierd' looking. Althought it was...
