Detailed Reviews
We have just returned from a two night stay at The Park Hotel. Our reason for visiting Dunoon was to re-visit the locations of family holidays in my childhood. We could not have chosen a more perfect hotel. The room was spacious; comfortable ; and most importantly, clean.
Our room had a fabulous view across the Clyde to the Cloch lighthouse and Gourock.
We had dinner and breakfast both days and were spoilt for choice. The food was beautifuly cooked and very reasonably priced.
Not only were we blessed with lovely weather but great accommodation which we would certainly recommend to others wishing to explore the Cowal Peninsula.
We wish Claudiu and Mariana all the best in weathering these uncertain (viral) times and thank them for their hospitality.

A fabulous hotel. All the staff were so helpful.
Well done to the chef as the food was delicious - for dinner we all had different things - strogonoff, chicken, fish - which were all scrummy and could match any top market restaurant. Breakfast was also delicious, with plentiful portions which set us up for the day as didn't need any lunch. They coped brilliantly with a dairy intolerance too and had soya milk for the porridge/coffee.
On street parking not a problem at all as space plentiful and a quiet residential street.
The bed was so comfy, lovely bath and the overhead shower was so powerful. Everything was spotless.

What a wonderful hotel - such a warm welcome and very friendly fellow guests. The home cooked food is excellent, in particular the goulash and fabulous fish and chips. Breakfast was delicious. We stayed in room 26 which has a large bed and a single - it is wonderfully decorated with some lovely extra touches. We had 2 lovely nights and will be sure to return!

We were travelling with our dog and booked to stay here as it was advertised as a pet friendly hotel.
We did receive a good welcome but were then advised that the dog would not be allowed in the dining room. This is not unusual and we have normally been allowed to eat in the bar area. Not this time, we were told the dog was allowed, but that no food could be eaten there.
We had planned on having an evening meal at the hotel but went elsewhere instead.
We arrived for breakfast the next morning. The staff on duty confirmed what we had been told the previous evening about the dog and the bar area. Having left the dog in the room, the staff then came to tell us that the dog was barking and this would disturb other guests. We resisted the urge to respond that he would not be barking if he were sat with us.
Breakfast itself was a disappointment. The haddock option was tasteless as was much of the full cooked breakfast.
We will not be planning a second stay.

Response from Ion Claudiu G, Owner at The Park Hotel
Responded 13 Mar 2020
You have CLEARLY been informed at the time of the booking about the hotel policy for pets. You have been informed that dogs are NOT allowed in the restaurant during breakfast and dinner service. We are not quite sure how were you planning to have dinner at our hotel as we do not serve bar meals ?!? Please note we allow well bevaved dogs in our hotel and we respect all of our guests; as your dog was barking I have found reasonable enough to let you know and to ask you to control the situation. I believe you were not very considerate about other people when your dog was a bit disruptive at 8.00 in the morning. We are sorry to hear our breakfast was not up to your standards. We believe, as the vast majority of our guests, that our breakfast is quite substantial and very tasty.

Can’t say I’d be rushing back to The Park Hotel. We have become a bit picky on cleanliness after passed experiences at hotels. We pulled back the sheets to find an appallingly stained mattress. After showing the member of staff on reception, we were offered another room. This didn’t have a mattress in the same state as the previous. However on bed time. We found it was well past it’s serviceable life. The springs were compressed & there was lumps all over. Not a pleasant nights sleep. The room it’s self was dated. It looked clean, but had a strange fusty smell. It was like cleaning products were hiding, more than making it feel fresh. We went to sleep listening to another rooms TV, also them breaking wind.
Breakfast was simply OK. Budget sausage, black pudding & potato cakes that had been left heated, as they were greasy. To us a B&B needs to hit two key factors. Bed & Breakfast. The Park Hotel didn’t do it for us on either. We initially booked The Park Hotel based on reviews over price. It now amazes us on how this place has achieved all the positive reviews both here, & on other review sites. We don’t except 5* on a budget, but we do expect cleanliness. What really was an insult, was we received an email. Our online booking agent sent us a email, asking on how good the check in was. After we filled in the questions. We received an email, basically Telling us, we should look for another hotel if weren’t happy.

Great location, all staff very friendly and helpful, upon arrival greeted by friendly staff full covid precautions in place was given room key but then very dissapointed with the bathroom went to talk to reception where we were shown another much smaller room but with 2 dogs would have been very small. They then said they would be able to give us a different room the next day after ,so we agreed to that. The next day the staff moved all our things for us while we were out and could not have been more helpful we had a lovely room with great view. The staff could not do enough they were brilliant. The breakfast is delicious and service is great, yes we would stay here again.
Thank you.
Thank you.

great impressions on arrival, the fella was so very nice and helpful while checking us in. Bit disappointed in the size of our room (18) was more like a single with a double bed in it. bathroom was needing a good painting to freshen all the chipped wood up, was clean enough though. dinner was amazing 10/10, waiter was spot on and again very helpful and polite. Breakfast was a big WOW, delicious. would return but i would def need a bigger room.

Excellent on all points - good location just a few minuted from the ferry. Our 3 spacious bedrooms were spotlessly clean as were the ensuing bathrooms. The super efficient, friendly and courteous staff made our stay a “home from home” and provided great breakfasts, and the effective central heating was really essential at this time of the year particulrly if you are visiting from Florida. We have stayed here previously and will most certainly be back later this year - definitely the best place to stay in Dunoon - it ticks all the boxes.

We stayed at the Park hotel, first thought is how homely the place is. We stayed in room 3 which is above the bar. The room was huge and spacious. The bed was comfy and clean. We had food at the restaurant, we had steak only thing that let it was homemade chips and bistro salad would had made the meal! Unfortunately the restaurant was closed on Sunday but plenty of restaurants, takeaways. Breakfast was ok, guttered my scrambled egg was cooked in the microwave on Saturday, overall a very pleasant trip but I would say hotel needs some modernising and fresh lick of paint, modern carpets and furniture.

The hotel was our base for a four night break in Dunoon so we could take a look around a bit of the west coast and catch up with family. It didn’t disappoint.
Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We had our wee dog with us who was a bit anxious/nervous about us leaving him in the room for meals however the staff were understanding and whilst we ate a (fantastic) breakfast each day relatively stress free, the evening meal was a bit less relaxing due to Fido being left in the room but we did get to sample some lovely dinner on the Saturday night!
We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again (with or without the dog, probably without so we could relax 😂😂) and have nothing but positives about this little gem. A lovely 15 min stroll along the waterfront to town and with stunning views I would not hesitate to return or recommend.
Thank you 😊
