We chose The Auld Kirk as we like to chose "quirky" places to stay and for its location as we were going to the Ballater Highland Games. Our room was very clean and comfortable but similar to many hotels, you wouldn't really know you were staying in a converted church. Breakfast was very good. We had dinner in the restaurant...

Took my husband here for his birthday - dinner bed and breakfast. Thoroughly loved the whole experience from the warm welcome, the top notch (locally sourced) food, beautiful ambience, excellent service to the extremely comfortable room. We needed to leave before 8am and were very grateful to Lisa who brought a cooked breakfast to our room before breakfast was officially...

We stayed at the Auld Kirk in there superior room for 2 nights at the end of July. The room was slightly disappointing as there was nothing to say you were in a converted Church with is what appealed us to staying here, the want of feeling we were staying somewhere special and different. The room, in our opinion, was...

Ballater and Braemar is a stunning village if you plan to visit the likes of Balmoral Castle and Crathie Church. The hotel in Ballater is a converted church which is nice and clean. We had two rooms booked. The twin room had an acquired smell which seemed to remain for our duration. We did not complain, however assumed it was...

Stayed here on Good Friday, were passing through and arrived quite late so can't comment on the restaurant. Overall really nice place, but not quite as quirky as we'd thought. Rooms are of a good modern standard, but once you're in them you could be anywhere - although it's obvious you are in an old church when you enter the...

I would rate this as a restaurant with rooms, as that seems the order of priority here. The food was excellent, but the service was slow. Guests are held in a lounge and are peeled off in a timed & ordered manner to give the chef the optimum time to phase in the courses. That works if you enjoy pre...

This is a converted Church (as you'd expect from its name!) with some off-the-wall touches. There's a large "Spirit of Ecstasy" (Rolls-Royce) statue in the middle of the restaurant but the quality of the food and service were excellent and the staff were very accommodating. The only downside was that the bedrooms are a bit small but the bathrooms are...

The Auld Kirk, is a warm, and welcoming hotel and restaurant. It is a small hotel with a very big heart. The rooms are equipped with everything you need and the views from the bedroom are outstanding. The choices on the menu are varied and all produce is sourced locally. This is a hotel and restaurant we will definitely return...

We stayed there after having left the neighbouring Hilton (don't go there) . We tried the restaurant first and were so pleased that we decided to stay for the last two nights we wanted to spend in Ballater. The service is splendid, the restaurant is outstanding and the room we were in was quite small but perfect, clean and nicely...

Another lovely trip to the Auld Kirk (our 3rd). Peter & Tony combine great accomodation with a fabulous restaurant serving superb food. Everything works well, from the relaxing ambient bar area, stylish comfortable bedrooms and atmospheric dining room. Peter heads the friendly & efficient house team who look after your every need, with Tony behind the scenes creating the excellent...
