I'd give this place 3.5 stars if I could. Pluses: The best thing about the place is probably the very hospitable owner, who made us very welcome. Decent if not great brekkie. Comfortble if rather small room. Minuses: None really. Bed could have been a bit bigger and a bit more comfortable, but is was perfectly OK.

We stayed here as a party of 9 and Charlotte and Tony were very welcoming despite our muddy boots and soggy clothes. We missed the deadline for packed lunches (6pm) as we had totally forgotten about them and cheekily asked for them when we had got in from our evening meal at 9.30pm. Despite us being late, we got a...

My husband and I walked the Cumbria Way and Howard Lodge Guest House was our last stop - but definitely one of our best. We arrived early but our room was ready, and we were able to stow our backpacks and go see the sites in Carlisle. Howard Lodge is a short walk to the center of Carlise and the...

Our walking party stayed here for 2 nights at the end of the full Hadrians wall walk. Tony & Charlotte are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The lodge is spotless and full of very nice touches. The quality of the breakfasts and packed lunches was first class , with a varied choice of hot and...

Hosts were very accommodating....let me into my room quite early when I arrived after a short day's walking on the Wall. Room was clean and comfortable. Location is excellent.....a pleasant walk into town. The issue is noise for rooms on the street. When I expressed my concern about that, since I open my window at night, I was told it...

I reached the Guest House at 12 o`clock after a terrible rainy night on a campground. Actually check- in should be from 14:00 but the owners showed sympathy and let me move into my room immediately :) The room was very cozy and clean. So was the bathroom. I immediately enjoyed a hot- chocolate provided in the "Mini- Bar". The...

Stayed here as a first stop when walking Hadrian's Wall. Charlotte & Tony were very accommodating and great hosts. Everywhere was very clean and the breakfast was lovely. Location was very close to town and there were loads of places within easy reach to have dinner.

Very friendly B&B. Tony & Charlotte were helpful and happy to help. The whole place was very clean. We had a (functional) triple room and a lovely single room and beds were very comfortable. The showers were good and the breakfast was fantastic. Great fruit salad.

Dated decor. Water stains on bedroom walls. Peeling wallpaper. Overall lower quality ingredients for breakfast such as tinned plum tomatoes, not fresh. Tony gave us a friendly greeting then handed us our room key, pointed us in the direction of our room, and left us there. Views out our room to rubbish strewn alley. Mattress is hard and in need...

Had a lovely big room to ourselves and there was enough room for the dogs to be out of our hair (even though they were happy to just sleep all night). Hotel was spotless and the brekkie in the morning was delicious. Everything was just right and Tony & Charlotte (the owners) were only too happy to help out. A...
