We visited the Red Lion today for a Sunday lunch. We had a voucher as a raffle prize, for Sunday 3-course lunch for 4 people, but there were only 3 of us. On arrival we were slightly early and the restaurant wasn't yet open, so we asked if it was ok to have a drink in the bar first, which...

Being over 600 years the Hotel is full of history and character. There have been a number of ghost sightings in many areas including the rooms. Our room was said to be haunted by a women called Alice but we were not troubled by her during our stay. The Town centre location is perfect for a visit to the Castle...

We were given an afternoon tea voucher for Christmas & chose to come here. Really lovely sandwiches, great selection of cakes & scones. Very clean restaurant & toilets. Angela on reception/waitress/cleaner/barman is a one woman tornado & amazing at how well she runs around getting everything done. Definitely deserves a pay rise!

We recently took a short break in North Essex/South Suffolk to visit family. We stayed at this hotel for two nights at the start of the trip as it was centrally located. While most of the staff were friendly, it was your stereotypical english rundown hotel. The room was small and not overly clean. The bed was awful as was...

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights and probably wouldn't go back. It is located perfectly on the high street and only 30mins drive away from the popular Freeport Braintree in Essex. However our room was facing the high street and was opposite a club. This was extremely noisy meaning that we unfortunately didn't sleep very well. Some...

The Red Lion staff, as I have found with the whole Brooks hotel group are really friendly and accommodating. The food is too nice to say no to. The only drawback for me is that the Guinness is through one of those vibrating plate things and not a draft. But an excellent and much need good nights sleep. The receptionist,...
