I stay here every year for the John Clare Society festival and it is wonderful. Friendly staff, great food and such value for money. The oak panelled restaurant by candlelight is like stepping back in time.

Visited the George yesterday for the first time since visiting with my parents as a teenager. What can i say the experience was wonderful. Very helpful and attentive staff. We had an afternoon tea and the food was beautiful (home made jam yum!) Very relaxing and a thoroughly enjoyable experience (will be coming back again very soon!)

We are in the garden room last Friday a week ago. There isn't one particular thing which sticks out ,just many little things ,which left us feeling that we were just paying for the setting at an overinflated price ,and that the food was just very average. Don't get me wrong to sit in that beautiful building is a treat...

We decided, as a birthday treat, to take my aunt to the George for afternoon tea. I was a little concerned that we would have trouble finding a table as reservations are not possible. We arrived a little early, tea is served from 15:30-17:30. On entering the hotel we were greeted by a member of staff who directed us the...

Had dinner on Sat evening (18 March) with an old friend. Fabulous ambiance, first class meal, with fantastic service by great staff. I really can't recommend it enough - you will not be disappointed by any aspect of it if you appreciate quality!

We entertained a good friend and his wife in celebration of his 70th Birthday in the Oak panelled restaurant. Far too expensive here to stay overnight (we stayed up the street) and the menu is also outrageously expensive compared with anything else within the region (save for Hambleton Hall). That said it is a culinary experience of the highest order....

The George in one word: Impeccable! We stayed here 8 years ago, and if anything: The hotel has become even better! Entering the hotel brings you back several hundred years in atmosphere: authentic decorations, old timber beams, and the old stone walls. At the reception we were met with a welcome and smile, and an upgrade from the basic room...

This is a proper five star hotel and eatery the rooms are warm quiet and comfortable. Two bars well stocked with every type of drink you could want. The restraunt is magnificent, great menu very well cooked and presented, not cheap but good value.

I visited The George last night, staying there overnight whilst visiting Friends for a party nearby. What a wonderful find. Cosy, comfortable and clean, fires burning in all bar areas and friendly, attentive staff. Tea brought up to wake me in the morning before I went down for one of the best cooked breakfasts I've had for some time. Staff...

Just the place to celebrate a BIG birthday! After one visit to confirm the date everything was taken care of via email. The staff could not have been more helpful, accommodating and generally went out of their way to make the occasion a howling success. all our guests had travelled a fair distance to be with us and they were...
