Spent a night here in an old fashioned room. Even so it was so clean and comfortable. The room was like a small holiday unit - providing fridge, microwave, area to eat in etc. The buffet: dinner was like going back in time to a Chinese restaurant of 1960/70s but was tasty & breakfast was limited but filling. WiFI was... More

On our first day we flew into Horn Island with Qantas. Airfares are quite reasonable if bought well in advance or on sale. In our case $95 each way. Faye from Gateway Torres Strait collected us from the airport then stored our bags for us while we headed back to the mainland overnight to visit 'The Tip' of Cape York.... More

Most people visiting Horn island appreciate that this is a remote area. We were in awe of the Seekees and the effort that they have made to make the history of the island known. The hotel room was basic and dated (70s) but clean. Ours had a kitchenette and a tv. Unfortunately , the pool was closed for maintenance during... More

Small double bed with 1 side against the wall, so I slept on the spare single and wasn't very comfortable. Toilet behind the bathroom door so needed some care if partner walked in , lots of bench space in the bathroom which I like, small kitchen area with good size fridge, ceiling fan and air con which worked fairly quickly.... We stayed a night at the Gateway Torres Strait Resort recently and it was a great place to lay your head. When we walked in the staff were friendly, professional, attractive and welcoming. Getting to our room was fine but it was like a scene from the Hunter S Thompson movie in Vegas, like super cool daddy-o throwback décor it... More

A clean and tidy accommodation, high pressure hot showers, tasty smorgasbord dinners and very friendly staff. Only downsides were rooms a little dated and sadly pool closed for maintenance until 12th August. Bus tour of Horn island very informative including Heritage Museum behind the resort.

Friendly staff, clean rooms. This is Horn island so really what do you expect. The rooms are honestly like you have stepped back into the 70's and you would think that some form of upgrades or renovation may have been done since this place was built but there has been none! Sorry, there is a great TV that you have... More

Found this hotel an unusual but rewarding experience. Unusual in that the location and setting initially is uninspiring but that is soon rectified when you move past reception to find the pool and museum and clean but basic rooms behind. The rooms are clean, comfortable, good bathrooms, TV etc, but in need of renovation. The location worries are dispelled when... More

Make the effort to get to Horn Island stay a night at the Gateway Hotel which offers basic & clean accommodation. The accommodation food & beer prices are not important! Take the full tour approx 2 hours. What a fantastic & informative history tour Vanessa provides for her quests. It should not to be missed.Vanessa has devoted much of her... More

We had plenty of room and large bathroom on our first night of Cape York tour at Gateway. Short walk to Jetty which was entertaining with boats and fishermen coming and going. Enjoyed the tour of War Relics on the island and we had plenty of time to review the Museum at the Gateway. Great place to relax for fishing,... More
