The building looks very rundown and has, as of yet, no elevator but other than that, the apartment was perfect. Clean, spacious, basic cookingware available and towels provided. Location was great too as it was in a quiet and safe neighborhood, near the Prater, and a short ride away from central. Fuss free check-in and out system, and so much...

The apartment was described as “Housed in a typical Viennese Art Nouveau-style building, all Maximillian Apartments can only be accessed through a staircase - there is no lift - and feature flat-screen TVs and new kitchens or kitchenettes.” What we arrived to was a building site. The front of the building was housed in scaffolding, there was loose bricks and...

We slept well. Both bedrooms are quiet and the beds comfortable, with immaculate bed linens. We liked the tree-top view of the small park - restful after a busy day, and worth the stairs. The kitchen is small but workable - we made breakfast mostly. Dining table and chairs perfect and the couch cozy. I also loved the herringbone floors...

I really enjoyed my stay - the location was great and the apartment was comfortable and cute. The building is old with a lot of character - definitely not the sterile hotel experience. It could use a little upkeep but that added to its charm. I would definitely stay there again.

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
