Very small rooms, old furniture and not enough room for clothes or personal things.Food served at breakfast -not that various but it was fresh. The bathroom was clean and provided samples of dush gel.No encounter with room service, during the weekend stay. Staff very cold and a bit unfriendly. Very well located, near the center of the city, behind the town hall.

I stayed here for a few nights in September, because everything was sold out throughout Vienna - three conferences going on at once. It really was just a place to sleep - no real hotel feeling, very old furniture and if you don't know your way around at night you'll get lost. It's on the second floor and has a...

The hotel is placed ad the second floor of a early '900 building. You will feel citizen of Vienna and you can breath the true spirit of Vienna. Do not expect luxury and modern furniture, rooms are low profile, but clean and comfortable.

A decent enough hotel for the price, rather dated in decor and furniture, but clean and conveniently located. However, do not expect your internet connection to be stable, even though you pay extra for it, and be prepared to be abused by reception staff if you complain.

I had a single room for three days in Vienna and although the room was small, it was a good value for the money. The hotel is in a very quiet area, which was nice, yet there were several cafes and restaurants nearby and for more, the ubahn is very close and the city center isn't far. It's also very...

I was shocked hotel had such good reviews. Everything is old, worn out and dirty. The entrance is if you are entering a post WWII Soviet slum, the place has not seen repairs in at least 50 years, all furniture is from the period as well. One corner of the room was turned into a bathroom. Horrible. It ruined out...

The service is very good, very friendly and helpful atmosphere, they speak good English. Very clean, they cleaned every day, and I stayed 3 nights only. The only surprise was there is no shampoo. Very decent breakfast. The location is in a walking distance to all the city attractions, very close to a tram and urban; but very quiet. I...

The hotel location is close to Schottentor (short walk to Ubahn), so convenient if you visit over there e.g. Vienna University. It is a bit inside, not along a large street, so no noises from the road. The room furnishings are in traditional style, also as in Eastern Europe, with carpets - feels comfortable inside. My room was not particularly...

This was our first visit to Austria. The hotel is within a short walking distance of the U2 subway. It is not difficult to find but rather unassuming in appearence, being on the second floor of a huge building housing other apartments and flats. Much to our pleasent surprise our bedroom has a kingsize double bed and was warm and...

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
