The hotel is in an old building which was formerly a small Baroque palace dating from the 17th Century and is situated in a quiet pedestrian street off the Karntner Strasse, a short walk up from the State Opera House. I had booked a "superior room" and was given a room up on the fourth floor, looking out over the...

The good: The hotel is quite nice, confortable and appropriate - really very good value for money. The male concierge was friendly and nice. Breakfast is ok, location is a big plus. The bad: The staff, specially the restaurant, were quite unfriendly - even rude. No smiling at all, no effort to understand the requests, and several times turned their...

We were greeted with a heavy cigarette smell on arrival. Having travelled all night, we asked for a quiet room. We were told the room would be quiet but the room were were given was separated from the next room with a thin wooden door. We had to listen to the conversations next door. There was a lot of noise...

Nice interior of the hotel but it is quite dated. That's just the style of it. The breakfast was nice in the morning, great variety. The rooms were smaller than other similar hotels I have seen in Vienna, and were just average. Nothing special. Bathroom was nice and clean though. Needs some updating (doors, hallways, elevator, etc).

Perfectly situated in the heard of Vienna. Spacious rooms, absolutely fantastic breakfast buffet, friendly atmosphere, free coffee, softdrinks, sweets during entire stay etc. Can warmly recommend. Very reasonably priced.

The Mailberger Hof is located very near the opera house, within a walking distance from almost every sight in Vienna. It's located just off a busy shopping street, on a cute quiet alley. My room was very large and clean, but otherwise average. Free WiFi, minibar, haidryer, TV, AC. The safe was so small, that only your passport and/or mobile...

We arrived early, well before the stated check-in time but the helpful lady on reception let us into our rooms anyway. Rooms were fine - maybe a little dark but that was the decor and style of the wood. There were no 'spare' power outlets though to plug everything into so I had to unplug the bedside table lamp in...

Such a perfect situation. Central to so many major attractions and near hop on hop off bus. Staff helpful, willing to store wheelchair and luggage on our last day. Enjoyed coffee free in elegant lounge but no evidence of snacks! Huge bedroom with convenient classic bathroom with walk in shower as requested. Phenomenal breakfast, always fresh and varied. Delicious smoked salmon...

Centrally located for most attractions, also convinient concidering CAT-train, if you are flying from or to Vienna. Breakfast was very good. Elevator old and small. Walking stairs often more convinient.

My wife and I are getting on a bit & like to stay centrally, especially in large cities. The problem is that often such hotels are either very expensive or of poor quality or in dodgy locations. Mailberger Hof proved to be none of those but a lovely boutique hotel in an excellent location with exceptionally friendly staff, large bedroom...

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

“Paying for a superior room should get you more space”
  • The view from my skylight across the street
  • Plenty of room and storage space
  • Small storage space at the end of the bath or around the washbasin
  • Bath and shower enclosure - note the lack of handles/handrails
  • My spacious superior room on the fourth floor with noisy skylights
