We spent 5 nights in the hotel. It is vey well located next to a main metro station. It is possible to walk to Stephan Dom within 20 mn. Good sauna and gym. Breakfast is made of good quality products. The hotel is in a...More

Causy rooms, excellent breakfast buffe and friendly surroundings. You get small town feeling although the hotel is large. It is perfectly located both near the station that connects the city with the airport and near the subway and trams.

Mercure Grand Hotel Biedermeier Wien
An OK hotel in Vienna Mitte, but overpriced for what you get. My single room was tiny and very old. Never been updated since the hotel was built. The door had huge gaps all around, and noise could get in the room. The breakfast was...More
Reception staff helpful. Room had everything we needed. Comfortable but could do with a little updating. Slept well. Maid called at 9ish daily, once to restock the tea, coffee! A little early for us but think we were at start of the route. Outside space would...More

The entrance to this hotel is not right off of the main road. You have to walk about a minute through a nice, cobbled alley to the hotel entrance. It's a short walk but seems a bit longer when rolling suitcases over the cobblestones.

Hi Gayle
The simple answer is "I don't know", because I've never need one.
By far the best - if you have suitcases with wheels - is to get off the plane at Schwechat, follow the signs to the "CAT" (City-Airport-Train). You can buy single or return tickets - I think a single is 12 Euro and return is 20 Euro. Get off at the terminus - called Wien Mitte (and the Landstrasse U-bahn is underneath) about 20mins later.
Get yourself to street level, you need to find Landstrasse Hauptstrasse, which is a busy shopping street on the left as the train arrived (Go through the shopping mall, you should see a big Village cinema complex opposite).
Turn right (south-eastwards) on Landstrasse Hauptstrasse, away from the city, and 250m later there it is on the right. It's absolutely gorgeous - down an alleyway, pale yellow and dark green - typical of the Biedermeier architectural style.
A taxi will cost you at least 50 Euros each way. Cheaper to buy suitcases with wheels!
On your return trip, the logic is even stronger. Flights back to Sydney/Auckland tend to leave late evening. That means a taxi is fighting evening peak traffic - at least an hour's drive - and that's on a good night (not Friday!!!!). The CATs run to the second, and will get you there with no fuss!
I hope that helps! Message me again if you still have questions. Once at the Biedermeier, try the sauna in the gym, and try the market and wine bar at Rochusgasse U-bahn!
