Every time me and my wife travel to Vienna, Pension VITIS is our first option to be hosted. We have been there already twice, and will be once more now in August. The pension is very well located, close to the U-Bahn and the Wiener Stadthalle. The rooms are pretty clean and cosy, with a small kitchen and tea/coffee facilities....

Karl picked us up from the airport in his minivan, approximately a half hour trip. This was amazing service to start with as we had neglected to confirm the booking. He held it for us even though he requires neither deposit nor credit card. The two studio apartments are up a gentle flight of stairs and Karl helped us with the...

From my first contact when booking our stay, Karl was the perfect host - all queries were answered quickly and so many helpful hints and tips too. Collected at the airport and taken to the railway stations very early on the morning of departure - nothing was too much trouble for Karl. A great location, so easy to get into...

Host very helpful and lots of guides at the pension. Location OK - very good bus service into central Vienna. The room was large, clean and the little kitchen well equipped. The breakfast was more than adequate so that we could save some bread and fruit for later in the day.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Pension Vitis for four days on a three week visit to Europe. It was wonderful! Karl was a delight and very helpful - he picked us up from the airport, held our bags until our train the day that we left, and in between, brought us a delicious breakfast each morning and provided...

What a great place to make your home base while staying in Vienna. The bus is only one block away, there are excellent restaurants within walking distance and the owner, Karl, is so helpful. The rooms are comfortable, clean and they have a kitchenette. There is also a free standing air conditioner available when it gets hot. Laundry is also...

Karl was a kind, considerate and resourceful host. He went out of his way to explain the ins & outs of transportation in a city quite foreign to us. And as non-speakers of German, Karl with his impeccable command of English, could tell us what to do and look for and what to avoid. A major concern for us was...

Staying in Ottakring

Neighbourhood Profile
The production site of popular Ottakringer beer brews up an exciting mix of working and middle class suburbs, Balkanese immigrant lifestyles, and lush patches of hilly woodland. The recently gentrified area around Yppenplatz and Brunnenmarkt boasts hip cafés and bars next to South East European delicacies at Brunnenmarkt street market. The dynamics of Ottakring become most apparent at its vibrant high street Ottakringer Strasse. At the top end you can feast on wine and local food in Austria’s oldest wine tavern 10er Marie. The wines are from the tavern’s own urban vineyards. Before you head upwards, make sure you pay a visit to the historic courtyards between Lerchenfelder Gürtel and Hippgasse. When locals visit Ottakring’s hilly green outskirts on the weekends they either climb up 31 meters of Jubiläumswarte viewing tower on Gallitzinberg, have a succulent Wiener Schnitzel at Villa Aurora, or reward their hiking exertions around Wilhelminenberg with a drink and a view from Wilhelminenberg Palace (now a hotel and restaurant).
