Detailed Reviews
Two family members and I stayed here during a 10-day trip to Iceland as we drove the Ring Road. The inn and its new owner, Helga, are delightful. The B&B is so cute, beautifully-decorated, and immaculately clean. Helga greeted us warmly at the door, helped us with a parking place, and showed us around. We had the entire first floor to ourselves, so the shared bathroom was private.
The lodging is in impeccable condition, with spotless furnishings and linens. The room was large enough for a king and twin beds plus a small dining table, very clean, and the beds were quite comfortable. Although the B&B is located in a village, the room was quiet and we all slept very soundly. The bathroom was spotless, with the most delightful room fragrance diffuser, a combination of lavender and patchouli. The towels were thick and absorbent, and the shower had plenty of hot water with good pressure.
Helga showed us where to find coffee and tea, called a local restaurant for a dinner reservation for us, and then pointed out some of the other interesting sights in Siglufjordur.
We set out to explore the village and were very impressed with the Frida Chocolate Shop, the Herring Era Museum, and Harbour House restaurant (separate reviews.) After driving around most of this stunning country for 10 days, the tiny village of Siglufjordur won our hearts as the most delightful town we visited.

Super nice place to stay while visiting the north of Iceland. Location is perfect, can walk to the center in 3 minutes where you find restaurants ( recommend Rauðka for great pizza), stores and other service. The porch has nice sitting and the host will offer you some authentic Icelandic wool sweater to keep you warm while enjoying the amazing view over the town and the fjord.
The rooms are cozy and super clean - you have everything you could need for a lovely stay.

Very welcoming hosts with very clean and well-kept rooms with an eye for detail, hot pot in the garden and breakfast together in the living room with interesting conversations with the owners. Very good location. You can go hiking right from the front door!

We so enjoyed our stay here in one of the cabins. Helga was so friendly and helpful (Dagur was away) and she has even emailed us a bread recipe which we requested. We were so glad we stayed two nights. The guesthouse is in a great location and we had a really enjoyable day visiting the museum and doing a walk which Helga had recommended. The cabin was very comfortable and we ordered breakfast both days. The breakfast was excellent, with homemade bread and jam included as part of a generous selection of food.
This was our favourite stay in Iceland and if we returned it would be the first place we booked!

It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and so nice to have you staying with us for couple of nights, enjoying your cabin and exploring Siglufjörður. Really glad you found your cabin comfortable, our almost-home-made breakfast and the chat over the morning coffee. I do hope to see you again, next time you travel to "the north". Read somewhere that; "New Zealand and Iceland are long lost twins, both rich in natural wonder, beauty, culture and spiritual serenity, half the world away from each other, and there is still very little that separates them apart" All the best Helga and Dagur p.s. I look forward to hear how baking "The Herring House´s spice bread" will work out :)

We had such a lovely stay at The Herring House. The rooms were well-equipped, the beds were clean and comfortable, and the amenities (kitchenette and bathroom) were fully stocked and easy to use. Our host was delightful, offering a beautiful breakfast spread every morning with a stunning view over the fjord. She was incredibly helpful, kind, and empathetic. The house itself is in a great location, towards the top of town. It's an easy walk into the center of things, but nicely removed to offer a beautiful overlook. Was in town for business, so didn't have a chance to partake in e.g. skiing and other recreational activities, but the town has amazing food, drink, and activities. Would highly recommend staying here for any season.

We had a cosy private lodge with veranda and nice view to the fjord and mountains. The hosts are extremely sympathetic and prepare a tasty breakfast with homemade bread, cookies and jam. Dragur took us for a walk along the fjord with great views.

I must say that staying in The Herring House was nothing more than a magical time!
The accommodation is superb at any level, the view, breakfast and the surtoundings are wonderful.
The rooms are great and the sense of nature(even if it’s in the the town of Siglufjörður) is everywhere around you along with such amount og quietness, which I loved!
And let’s not forget the owners, Helga and Dagur who are amazing! Very helpful regarding most of your needs and questions you have for them :)
Very clean and well taken care of renting house which is very close to down town Siglufjörður.

A beautiful stay in picturesque, historical town. Our cottage was perfectly appointed, top quality linens. Hosts Helga & Dagur were so interesting, brought us local fresh-made breakfast, filled hot tub (outdoors overlooking town) and shared an amazing night — the Aurora Borealis put on a spectacular show for 1+ hours 🙏🤩
