Paid for a “Triple” room - was told “Sorry, we only have three in the whole hotel.” And despite booking 6 months in advance, somehow they didn’t have it reserved?!

I didn't go to Hilton's Spa, but seeing that you are not lodging there, you will more than likely be charged an entrance fee. Have you considered Blue Lagoon? It's near the airport and the perfect place to relax - they have massage service too and the restaurant may be a bit pricey, but well worth it bec of the great food.plus at lunchtime, you don't have to dress up - just put your robes on . they also have a luggage hold area. It's an easy drive if you have a rental car, and also easy to get to if you're taking the bus transfer from keflavik airport to blue lagoon to reykjavik.
