I was very happy with the easy-going atmosphere at KEX hostel. Everyone was so nice, open and helpful. I was only staying for one night and everything was very easy to access and even the built-in bar is a nice place to spend some time in this great city! Since Iceland in general is quite expensive, this is relatively cheap.

I stayed at Kex hostel with friends for 4 nights over Christmas. While nothing in Iceland can really be called 'budget' this is your best bet for a cheaper form of accommodation. The hostel itself is in a great location walking distance from town and easy to get to the museums etc nearby. The place is just a door from...

We stayed at Kex for one night while in Reykjavik. The outside of it isn't overly sign posted so we actually drove right passed it! When you go up stairs you immediately feel the chilled vibe. It has such a great set up with book shelves, dim lighting etc and had a great bar area. The girl at the front...

Kex is really an incredible hotel with plenty of room on the floors, multiple bathrooms, and even a bar downstairs! (Which gets super busy) oh, and a barber 😂) great hostel, would highly recommend - everyone is super friendly and enjoyable

This hostel was exceptional! The facilities were extremely clean and well kept. The security in the hostel is all based on 'tap cards' for the hallways and rooms (separately). the hostel is in an excellent location, walking distance from pretty much anything you wanna go see or do in Reykjavik. The decor was super cool, rustic and inviting. definitely buy...

I would say this is unique hostel with modern art feel. They have a lively bar and lots of music. You have to be ok with sleeping with live music. The baths and common kitchen were ok. Nice location and close to shops and historical buildings. Only do a day here and go to another of the many hostels in...

It was a love from first sight! As I'm design/art/architecture lover, it couldn't be better. It's a former biscuit (kex in Icelandic is a biscuit) factory transformed into a modern, top-notch hostel. Every detail in this place is amazing - great furniture from mid century mixed with modern elements, old maps, great books. It's an interior design gem. It's location...

The KEX hostel is central. Near the big streets, some museums, thermal/public pools, restaurants, supermarkets and corner stores. The beds are super comfortable. The rooms are heated. They have comunal showers and private showers. They have a bar downstairs where they serve food (good) and alcohol. If you do not want to go broke after four days cook your own...

Travelling to Reykjavik in top tourist season and having missed to book in advance, I had the choice between bland overpriced hotels in the outskirts of town and hostels. If people can think that it’s fantastic to sleep in flatbeds packed with other people in airplanes’ business class passing in the sky over Iceland, why shouldn’t I be able to...

This review is for the private rooms. If you like communist / institutionalised chic then this hotel is perfect for you. For 120 euro you get a grim room with shared bathroom. Unsuccesfully trying to get a spare pillow (there were a total of 2 thin pillows on the double bed) from the unfriendly girl on reception was like something...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It' s the Icelandic word for "biscuit" and a social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love? Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions. Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features: a cafe and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, and free Wi-Fi. Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 214 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting, new travel buddies from exotic places. KEX oozes with personality and soul-just like our guests. Every piece of decor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, KEX is an organic concept blending Iceland' s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel. With the affordable nightly rates, you'll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hakarl and Brennivin. In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms: 1. Double Plus - 1 double bed, 1 private bathroom, linens and towels, and 1 fantastic seaside view. 2. Double Standard - 1 double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels, and if you are lucky the same fantastic view. 3. Twin - 2 single beds, linens and towels, and a better than average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed. LOCATION: KEX is located in the center of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city center. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city's public bus system. ... more   less
