Hotel's Favourite
Stayed for one night from Sunday til Monday, and luckily got an upgraded room from standard to superior. Big, comfy room with nice view and good bed.
The only "not so good" was that the restaurants at the hotel were all closed because of Sunday, so we had to go to the city to search for good food.

Thank you for your lovely feedback! We want to surprise our customers and you were one of the lucky ones on that day! Great to hear that the superior room was a success and you enjoyed staying in our hotel. Our restaurant is having a day off on Sunday like most of the other restaurants in the area. We will always do our best to help you finding another restaurant, so you can just come to the reception and ask for advises and help. Hopefully we will meet again! Best regards, Wilhelmiina / reception Scandic Simonkenttä

To celebrate my brother's 60th birthday, we booked the best room at this hotel for two nights.
We have stayed twice before in this suite but before the refurbishment. Now the most notable difference can be seen in the living room and in the bathroom. The bedroom is the same.
This suite is very spacious and bright. The decor is modern and very Scandinavian. However, the sofa group was better before. The narrow sofa table is hard to reach from everywhere. Also, access to the sofas is blocked with other furniture. I wonder what the interior decorators are thinking when making these plans.
The best part of this suite is the huge balcony with great views. It is facing north-east and the sunshine stops at noon. The opposite hotel Vaakuna has balcony rooms with more sunshine.
The take-away breakfast during this COVID pandemic was quite average, at least when compared to the GLO Hotel Kluuvi. In Finland, it is no sense to offer a warm water bottle when cold tap water is better.
The next day, the room cleaning was done very professionally. Also, the reception staff was polite.

I really like this hotel...its breakfast is one of the best ones I have ever had. The minus is that the breakfast time is sometimes very crowded. The rooms are tidy and the location at the centre of Helsinki serves well visitors coming to town with train and enjoying city life. The beds are a bit too soft for me.

Dear Pekkis61, Thank you for the 4* review. We are glad to hear that you liked our hotel. As you mentioned, our location in the downtown is very convenient, great that it served your purposes aswell! Despite our hotel's breakfast being crowded from time to time, it makes me very happy that you think it's among the best ones you've had! Our breakfast definitely is large and offers something for everybody! We wish to see you again in Simonkenttä! Best regards, Mikael Simonkenttä Front Office

We booked a Superior room for a stay in 2020, but we had to cancel our trip to Finland because of Covid-19 regulations and laws, and our flights were cancelled by the airline. First attitude from the Scandic hotel was “no changes no refunds”, which were the booking terms in a “normal situation”. After several emails and angry messages to the hotel manager, they agreed to change the dates once.
We managed to rebook Scandic Simonkenttä 03-07/09/21. On arrival the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was excellent good variety to choose from. Location is great, near everything.
Our first given room was untidy and very dusty. After complaining at the reception, we were given another room, which wasn't so untidy but still very dusty. Back to the reception, and there the attitude changed, someone dared to complain. A hotel (possibly) duty manager was sent to the second room, where I met him and noticed that he couldn't care less, the room was clean enough for him, it was take it or leave it situation. We also had arranged to meet people, so we agreed that the second room was to be cleaned again and we were supposed to get a call when this was done. That call came never came, only found out when I went back to the reception. End of the day, the room didn't have it's second clean.
The room was on the fifth floor facing towards the square. One could hear the trams go by other side and if someone was shouting in the square, we could hear it. First night until 2am someone on the square tested their sound equipment for the following day happening and that kept us awake. Bad soundproofing!
Scandic Hotels is stating on their website, how they have rigorous procedures and routines in place at all their hotels regarding enhanced cleaning, which definitely wasn't the case when we were staying in Scandic Simonkenttä. Also in the restaurant when having the breakfast, many times we had to get new cutlery as some weren't clean enough to use.
It is pandemic time, Covid-19, rooms should be cleaned properly, not just to state that on hotel website. We have used Scandic Hotels in Helsinki before and been happy to stay there, but this trip put us off, next time in another more caring hotel (chain).

I was here recently over a weekend in Helsinki.
My room was ready when I arrived just after 15.00, check in was friendly and efficient from a man who was training on the job. He was accomplished and helpful and I was soon on my way to my room.
The room was as I expected, neat, tidy and well presented. The bed was comfortable and there were a couple of comfortable chairs and a desk to do some work. The shower was fine but the water pressure a little low.
The one thing that stops me giving this hotel five stars is the variable quality of room servicing by house keeping once you are in the hotel. This is an issue I have commented on before and it is no better. On one of the days I was there the room was cleaned and tidied very well while I was out, on the other day it was barely tidied at all and things like the wash basin were not wiped. Unlike in other places there appears to be no supervision of the house keeping staff and I've certainly over a few visits never seen a supervisor come to the room or seen one on a corridor and as such it seems as though housekeeping is a huge variable with no standards and no supervision. It's a bit let down.
Breakfast is good and there is enough choice to keep you going for a few mornings without it being boring. The gym and sauna are both also good spaces.
Check out was fine again with friendly staff and I was on my way. I will be back, it's a good place to stay in Helsinki.

Dear Longhaulfromlondon, Thank you for the review. I am delighted you were treated effeciently and friendly by the future talent who was a trainee at Simonkenttä. Your kind words made us and him very happy! I am glad that you have enjoyed your stays here and found the room being nice and the location convenient for your purposes. I truly apologize if there was lacking of housekeeping. Our aim is to provide good and cohesive housekeeping. Therefore your comments have been brought up to the housekeeping manager. I want to thank you for the constructive feedback regarding housekeeping - knowing this we will take actions to develope it even further. I am happy to hear that you found our sauna and gym department well. Did you know that we also have very nice superior plus rooms, which have a private sauna and balcony? I think you would enjoy them alot! I truly wish to see you again in Simonkenttä! With best regards, Mikael Simonkenttä Front Office

I stayed twice in a week for work so doing this review from both trips.
This hotel is completely step free access from Kamppi shopping centre. Super easy to get to but I wish they had more signs in Kamppi where to go, first time it was a bit unclear. Also the hotel lift doesn’t have sign which floor Kamppi is, would have been helpful.
Both of my stays the tv remote was super dirty like it usually is in hotels but during covid times I would have hoped extra cleaning. Also the little decor pillows in bed had stains both times and the wine glasses were not clean either so I had to wash them before using...
The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet like I requested. During my second stay the shower head didn’t stay put so you had to hold it when showering. The staff was super friendly and helpful, wish they knew more about the underground parking even if it’s not the hotels own. Check in/out was quick with their app. Breakfast was good but most ppl didn’t wear gloves provided and grabbed the forks etc from the same basket, one guy sneezed before doing so.. maybe they could be individually wrapped instead? Despite these few things I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend to others this hotel too.

I stayed at the hotel various times for business and leisure trips. Staff is always available and ready help, English is fluently spoken. The rooms have a modern style and are in a good condition. Breakfast offers plenty of options, vegan and gluten-free options are available.
During the Covid-time I felt always safe and masks and hand sanitizer are provided in the breakfast room. The hotel is a short walk from the station. There is a shopping center close by as well as many bars and the famous Tavastia club.
All in all I highly recommend a stay in this hotel.

We stayed at the Scandic Simonkentta over New Year as a stop over before heading up to Lapland. The location was excellent - a short walk from the Central train station when we got off the airport train. The rooms were modern and simple, clean and had everything that we needed. The highlight of the stay however, was how helpful the staff were. On New Years Eve, Mikail in particular rescued us when we discovered we had accidentally booked a restaurant 330km away. Being New Years Eve, and a party of 12, we had very few last minute options available to us. Mikail very kindly offered to set us up a private table in their Breakfast restaurant space, so we could order food from their bar menu. He then stepped away from his front desk role to serve us himself. It was really above and beyond, and we were so grateful to him for rescuing our evening.

I stayed at various Scandic hotels in Helsinki for years, but this one became my" Home away from home." Staff is always friendly and ready to help (even if you need a spoon for your ice-cream you bought after midnight at the 24hs supermarket across the street).
Rooms are clean and mostly in good condition, many have a great view over the city. Clubs and shops are in walking distance, so is the station. The bus terminal and the metro can be reached in a few minutes.
Breakfast comes with great choices, also gluteen free and vegan. The tables are always clean and staff in the breakfastroom is incredibly friendly, polite and helpful, they often made my day after a short night.
Bathrooms come with a tub or a shower and towels have a good quality, beds are comfy and the temperature of the room can be adjusted with the AC. Beware that curtains are not entirely lightpoof, bring a sleeping mask in the summer. Although the hotel is downtown, it's really silent. You can buy snacks or deinks in the lobby. Best choice for a city trip or an extended stay.

It is well positioned and the staff are perfectly friendly. It is pretty soulless. The worst things for me - room costing 140 euro or so - no kettle in this room (there was in others); stupidly small pillows (one of the really unforgivably stupid things for a hotel to do); and breakfast was a buffet with lots of options but some disappointments. No cold salmon seemed odd in Scandinavia. So I would think you could do better for the money and I was not bowled over.

simonkentta(at)scandichotels com hello Madame the above one is the right mail adress; it could be closed for COvid emergency. have a great day.
Hi,
Breakfast is really versatile and certainly there are vegetarian options available. The warm alternative is warm vegetables, falafels and porridge. Selection of bread, multigrain, dark bread and a gluten-free alternative too. Lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and fruits. I hope this helped.
No, they need only credit card
There is shuttle-cervice 24/7 300m from hotel: bus or train, 5-7€. Reception gives timetable- etc information
There is almost everything, bacon, sausage, Karelian pies, cheese, bread, vegetables, fruits, juice, kaffe, tea, etc etc
