Set your expectations after you have to share spa facilities with families with children and that staff do not interact to keep the area quiet and relaxing. Book a table at the hotel's restaurant well in advance of the day of arrival, because it is probably fully booked and the staff only make you aware of this at check-in = too late
Nice environment and good walks. Well kept. Restaurant kitchen not up to any standard. Cook must be replaced. Somewhat chilly room, but additional heater helped. Would like to return, but no acceptable dinner available prevents idea.
I like that they have let the former some what strict healty regime. The hotel is a wonderfull as allways and now the food lives up to the suroundings. This is a place you go to spoil yourself so you want to have nice food as well. The staff is allways very friendly and accomodating.
The hotel is located on the seaside and offers a tranquil environment with great service all around. At the Spa, restaurant and everywhere you are made to feel like a home with lots of care for each guest. In my case they were always very aware of my food intolerances (Gluten and Lactose) and I was always able to eat options for me that were delicious. My only note goes to the room, that felt maybe a little too sparse for 2 nights.
In total a Good stay! Easy check in, good parking, we all liked the dinner/food. Staff could be more up to date on knowing the dishes in English, the wine list was to short of selection of white wines. I was sitting translating the menu to Swedish and helping the staff. Then you actually had a menu in English. I guess it was just bad luck that you did not have the ingredients for a Bloody Mary. Hint just keep a couple of pre maid juices in stock. Very good breakfast. Easy checkout!
As seasoned travelers, it's always disappointing when you recognize within the first few hours that a business clearly needs to lift their game. Oh we enjoyed our 2 nights here in many ways, but when we have read the reviews dating back to 2017 and then the generic replys from the Hotel, its pretty clear somethings wrong. We drove from the east coast to Varberg for my birthday and had high hopes for a superb time. The greeting we received from reception upon arriving was a laugh. The girl should of had a sign on her head saying IM STRESSED DONT BOTHER ME. We had booked a complete package and when we asked about the facilities, she pointed to where it all was and that was that. No brochures, no information of what, where and how. Our waitress supplied us more information. 0 out of 10 for such a cold greeting to the very people who are the reason you have a job. Our room was beautiful and spacious and certainly made up for our arrival. The thing that both of us noticed was the clear lack of thought that has gone into this. Either too many chiefs and not enough Indians or someone in higher management isnt listening. Its the little things your customers look for. A small kettle and nescafe would be a nice gesture, however cheap. The ironing board was in pieces and a double bed had seperate mattresses and doonas. Bad choice ! You have two large windows with a beautiful view, yet no way to sit at the window and take in that view. Even a cheap wooden Ikea bench top and two stools at the window would add a huge amount to giving your clients a better experience. Lack of electrical outlets next to bed was also dated. Get a full size top mattress for the bed to avoid slipping into the middle. Regardless of these needed changes, we slept with our window open and enjoyed each nights sleep.Bathroom was fine. Room 7 out of 10. The food overall, sadly I have to say was, as a whole, very average. Breakfast was a mixed bag of very good and very average. Beautifully presented and the Kanal Croissants were to die for. The eggs have clearly not been addressed since previous reviews dating back years. My 9 year old nephew could make better. Tragic ! The bacon was oily and dry and both clearly were not made with care, love or by a chef. Coffee was weak. Cold meats were cheap and somebody needs to find a new supplier. Fruit was very fresh, cheeses, muesli, yogurts, breads, smoothies etc were excellent. Dinner was a roller-coaster. On our first night we had the absolute joy of being served by Frida. It was clear from the first minute that this girl knew exactly what 1st class service was and how to implement it. We ordered the Cod and Fillet Steak. Sadly my Entrecote steak was like a skinny piece of old boot leather and so Frida immediately took it back to the kitchen and asked for another one. Surprisingly that one was most likely from the same boot and was full of gristle. Totally unacceptable and a very disappointing birthday dinner for me. My partners very dry Cod dinner with its crumbled up bolied egg would not of won any votes on master chef. Dessert was the yummy Lemon Strawberry tart. Had it not been for Frida and her very pleasant demeanour and great service, I would of been truly angered by the food that was presented to us. Our second night was sadly without Frida. Our stressed waitress upon serving our desired beverage before our meal, then asked what we would like to drink with our main meal. We both found that not only amusing but rather odd. We both laughed when those drinks were brought to us half in between the first drinks. My Cod dish was yummy and a nice balance of flavors but my partners pasta dish was clearly not cooked from scratch. Any amateur home chef would know that store bought pasta sauce taste. Chef should be sacked. The staff on that Sunday night of the 2nd of Jan was embarrassing. Everyone seemed super stressed and not focused on actual service. Not one person asked us how our meal was nor if we would like anything else. A very lack of management yet again. Restaurant score 5 out of 10. The Spa was an interesting affair. We had not one staff member offer to show us where we should go nor tell us what we can do etc, so we basically walked and asked patrons what was what. Oh sure, the nice little white bags with all the goodies was nice but zero service. We found that part a real head shaker. Our spa highlight was the outside sauna and dip in the ocean. I have the fortune of having worked in health and fitness since the 80s and I know what good service is and I sure know what bad service is. You have an amazing facility and hotel in a unique and beautiful location but that does make it perfect. For me it is clear there is a big gap in communication and how the place is run as a whole. As mentioned, I read the reviews dating back to 2017 with many covering the exact same issues I have brought up. We left Varberg on Sunday and drove to Falkenberg and stayed at the Ocean Hotel. OMG, what a contrast on all levels. I hope this review helps you to implement real changes that so many of your past patrons clearly feel need seriously addressing. We did love our stay in so many ways, we just wished the service wasnt so lame and without a heart.…
We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. The only positive was the spa. The bed was extremely small and shouldn’t be booked for 2 ppl. We had 2 dinners there and both nights were disappointing. The food was barely edible and the staff seemed very confused.
Hugely disappointed with our stay at Varberg Kusthotel. The rooms in the annex were very poor. They were scrambled, dark, in poor condition, tugged away in what resembled a dormitory of the 80ties, just without any trace of coziness. The hotel itself was fully booked, which among other things meant that you had to choose time sloths for spa entrance, breakfast and dinner. Once in the spa, the number of guests there did set its mark, as the different pools and saunas were full. Also the baths in the changing rooms were affected, as the floor and walls were dirty, e.g. with chunks of hair etc. laying around. Didn’t really enhance any feeling of cleanliness, relaxation or the like. The half board menu, was a two course dinner. If you wanted dessert, you would have to pay extra. We decided to check out earlier than planned, as this experience didn’t deliver any value for money. On the contrary.…
Lots of activities on offer, the restaurant was excellent, the sauna and spa relaxing and the staff were friendly and professional. The location is great for walks and a dip in the sea after the Sauna ( located just 50 meters from the water). The bed mattress was too soft for my liking but they placed a board underneath the futon, which was then fine.
Always a pleasure to stay overnight in this hotel. Enjoy going there. Provides rest and relaxation after a hard day's work. The breakfast is extensive and staff is always friendly. From the hotel you can walk along the coast to Varberg.
