I had a lovely 3-night stay in early November. The hotel is well-located close to a metro station and several cafes, wine bars, bakeries and restaurants in the vicinity. It is also a 15 min walk over to Gamla Stan. Service was welcoming from the start. They shared info on airport transfers and shared a list of things to do, when I had emailed them. The staff at the front desk and breakfast cafe were also lovely, especially Frida and Michelle who gave me lots of tips and very pleasant. There was a helpful girl in the breakfast lounge too who shared her tips. Finally, breakfast was excellent w/ a great spread and hot food options. One downside is my room didn't have much natural light, but I was hardly there and so it didn't bother me too much. Highly recommend and would stay there again.

Hotel's Favourite
The hotel remains excellent in terms of comfort, decor, facilities, service and of course, location. The new Tavernan is if anything even better than the Cafe Rival was. The unique interior design has aged well over the course of 20 years. The location is one of Stockholm's best - Sodermalm is less obviously upmarket than some other parts of Stockholm, but charming and stylish. It's worth exploring the island in its own right, as well as using it as a base to see the rest of the city. Many of the locations from the Stieg Larsson novels are set here e.g. Blomfeld's (fictional) apartment not far down the road. Breakfasts are justly renowned.

Beautiful Hotel with cozy, clean, comfy rooms. Staff are polite, professional, friendly and kind. Every stay there is an absolute joy. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Rival Is two minutes walk to the Mariatorget Station and for five minutes walk to Gamla Stan. Easy walk to Slussen and ferry ride over to Djurgarden where you’ll find ABBA The Museum, Skansen and The Vasa Museum. Rival is situated in Mariatorget in Sodermalm. There is lots of cafes and Bars nearby.

We loved this location on Mariatorget. Cool neighborhood. Short walk to path with nice views of City Hall. Service was great. Only complaint is that the room was quite small and didn't have much in the way of dressers or shelves to store clothes, so we had to live out of our suitcases.

Hotel Rival is a very pleasant and cozy hotel in nice, relaxed surroundings at Mariatorget. The staff was extremely helpful. Rooms were large and clean. It is less business-like than other top-end hotels. The bistro served a great dinner. A great experience at a reasonable price.

I regularly visit Stockholm, and always stay at Hotel Rival. As always, the service is excellent. Quiet and clean rooms, friendly helpful staff, main train lines conveniently close by, safe area. Oh, and a great coffee machine on the 4th floor!!

I loved the place. The location on Mariatorget was so beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quiet. My only regret was that I had an early flight and had to miss that incredible breakfast on my last morning there. I will definitely stay there again next time I am in Stockholm.

An excellent hotel because the staff care about the clients. They successful get the balance right between professionalism and friendliness. During our 2 month European holiday and about 24 hotels, I think this my favourite. Thank you, see you next time.

Rival was a pleasant surprise! It’s definitely one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The service is top notch. I’ve stayed in several hotels and during this particular trip I’ve stayed in 3 different hotels, including Rival. Rival was the best one by far. There are a few imperfections of course. But I’m grading Rival based on the impression they left with me. I kept reading reviews about the breakfast and I was not impressed. The breakfast was pretty standard, breads, eggs, bacon, cheese, hams, fruits, yogurts. I tried ordering Swedish pancakes, an omelet and was not impressed. Very basic, not very tasty. The taste of the coffee was not very good. But this can be just a difference in coffee tastes. However, the fact that they offer espresso drinks is really great. I was charged a ridiculous amount of money for laundry service. It seems the company they use really nickels and dimes you for laundry and just adds unnecessary cost for items not specific to their listing. However, front desk offered some help with the matter. The rooms were one of my favorite parts of this hotel and as a guest, greatly important. I stayed in a deluxe room and I loved every bit of it. Every little detail is well thought out. The bed is so comfortable I overslept the first day. There was no noise considering the fact they have a bar downstairs. The ambiance downstairs is nice, comfortable, relaxed, and fun. The phones do not work well, 2 out of 3 of my phones were not working. I loved the pillow options. I thought the mattress was a little soft after sleeping in it for a few nights, I prefer a firmer mattress so others may or may not like this. The room was clean and comfortable. Seriously, I had the best shower of my life! Water pressure was excellent!! Being on the fourth floor I enjoyed having access to hot water, coffee, and cold water which proved to be very useful. My only two suggestions for the hotel would be to expand the menu at the restaurant. I often wanted to order something but there was few items to choose from. The second suggestion would be to add some sort of bus service or shuttle service. I considered staying in several other hotels because of how much closer they were to the sights in Stockholm. The walk is 15 to 20 minutes to most sights. A question I ask myself is if I were to visit again (and I def want to!), would I want to stay somewhere closer so I can see everything and make the most of my time? So, if a car was hired for say 3 times a day and drop offs in only 2 locations such as Center of Gamla Stan, and another stop further north perhaps by a museum it would really make the hotel the best in town! Finally, I want to add that what made this hotel perfect for me despite its imperfections are the staff. The staff care, they really do. It’s not just a job for them. They are so refreshing, kind, helpful. One example, my wife wasn’t feeling well and we had difficulty finding chicken soup nearby. The guy on night shift was so sweet he spoke with the bistro and they made her chicken soup. That type of service and care is priceless! The staff were so easy to talk to, and eager to make the stay pleasant. That’s the real reason I give this hotel 5 stars. I want to book this hotel again so bad, I actually am looking for plane deals to Stockholm for next year! It felt like a home! To all the staff, a million thanks for everything!

The Hotel Rival is an excellent hotel in the best location. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and helped us with anything we needed. We were 3 couples without a car in Stockholm and they gave us transit directions including a map of the city with directions to anywhere we needed to go. Coffee, fruit, water + tasty biscuits were available on our floor and replenished every day which we loved. When we departed the hotel around 3 am for the airport they had organized a taxi for us and a sandwich to take with us as we did not get breakfast that morning. Could not say enough about the staff. Would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you again! We loved Stockholm.
