I booked a 4 night stay here directly with the Rica Gamla Stan hotel for me and my partner. I had confirmation from the hotel of the booking. Arriving from England early afternoon to check in, we were told by the receptionist that they had no rooms and that we could not stay - there was not much of an...

This was a gem of a little hotel. They took such good care of us that I would recommend them above much larger hotels. Everything is remodeled. It's an old hotel so don't expect ultra modern spaces or anything like that. The bathrooms are all modern and tiled. There is one computer to share with all of the hotel, but...

We stayed at the Rica Gamla Stan for 3 days in June. Overall, our experience was quite good. The hotel's location is great -- right in the "Old Town" with easy walking access to all Gamla Stan sites. We are in good shape and also had no trouble walking to most of Stockholm's sites (Djurgarden, Vasa Museum, downtown shopping, etc.)....

While not cheap, the Rica Gamla Stan has many things to recommend it. First, the location is wonderful: it is in the atmospheric older part of Stockholm, a brief walk from many sights, lots of restaurants, and boats to other parts of town. It's a great area to be in in the evenings (especially during the long days of spring...

Located in Gamla Stan this hotel was just right for what I wanted. I had a single room which was quite small but the bathroom was new and it was quiet with no passing traffic. Breakfasts were extensive and you could "fuel up" till evening with cereals, breads cheese's meats and fish. Sweden is not cheap and this hotel offers...

An elegant, charming Old World hotel. Umbrellas in the foyer stand for guest usage. At the edge of the old city and on the water front as well as near to the subway station. Compact, tastefully decorated rooms. The extensive breakfast buffet is served on European china beneath crystal chandeliers. The Rica Gamla Stan sets the tone for your visit...

The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect! Just walk out the door and you're in old town. Parking a car nearby is (if you're lucky enough to find a lot) d*mn expensive, for the above reason. I was lucky enough to get a good price on this hotel, but the room was so so. A bit dark and felt...

I'd agree with the previous message. The hotel was okay, but no more than that. Location is very good, and we had a room facing the street on the third floor, so no street noise. We asked for a double room, but got a room with two twin beds shoved next to each other. Personally, I hate this, especially when...

Stayed for one night at this hotel after having spent two nights at Hotel Rival. It was a huge disappointment after Hotel Rival, which was perfect! The Rica Hotel Gamla Stan isn't bad...good location, older/charming decor, good breakfast, but it isn't great either. The bathroom was kind of gross...I think if they renovated/upgraded the bathrooms and took out the tacky...

After reading various reviews on this website of hotels in Gamla Stan, we decided to book at the Rica and were glad we did. It is in a perfect location in Gamla Stan - in the Old Town, but on a quieter street. While part of a chain, it is more like a boutique hotel and has more ambience than...

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
