As so many people have already commented, Illias, Perri and all the staff work extremely hard and are so friendly and helpful. If the review was based solely on them it would undoubtedly be 5 stars. However I’ve tried to take a rounded view of all aspects of the hotel and there are a few areas where I think there could be improvement hence the 4 stars. My comments are not a criticism but intended as being constructive to make an already great place even better. There is not a lot around the hotel so I would recommend hiring a car, which Illias will do for you as he kindly did for us. It is a beautiful island and the driving is fairly easy so get out and see the place. Opposite the hotel is a restaurant that serves fairly basic food but very tasty and reasonably priced. We ate there a couple of times and enjoyed it. There is a small supermarket across the road (to the right) or a larger one within walking distance (to the left). There is a Lidl supermarket a couple of miles away which is handy if you have a car. At the top of the hill opposite is a fantastic cafe (Kastro) and two lovely restaurants, The Olive Lounge and Il Borgo. Illias will book them and drive you there/back but we decided to walk a couple of times. It’s not as bad as it looks, takes about 25 minutes going up and 20 minutes going down. About 15 minutes walk from the hotel (turn right) is a lovely bakery selling fresh baguettes, pasties and lovely cakes etc. Back to the hotel…pool area is lovely and kept very clean and tidy. We had a ground floor room and found that we were pestered with cats to the extent that we couldn’t leave the door open otherwise they went in the room. Similar experience at breakfast if you ate outside and also pestered with wasps (obviously not the hotel’s fault). The rooms are fairly small and basic, particularly the bathroom and could probably do with a refresh/updating. Despite all the wonderful comments and 5 star reviews you have to remember that it is a 2 star rated hotel and I think that’s because of the rooms. Breakfast could be improved by having more variation. Although there was plenty of choice it was the same thing every day which got a bit monotonous. The hot option (which most of the time was only luke warm) was always fried eggs, baked beans and small sausage pieces. An option of bacon or other type of eggs would have made a pleasant change. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend. Would we return?…probably not because we don’t tend to go to the same place more than once. There are so many beautiful places to see in the world that we prefer to try somewhere different.

Our expectations were seriously exceeded! We stayed for a wonderful week from 9th September. Ilias, Peri, their family and small staff were incredibly welcoming and made every effort to ensure we had a great stay in a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. Ilias booked restaurant tables for us and even gave us a lift to them. There are a couple of lovely ones a few minutes away up a steep winding road, giving spectacular views. Because the hotel is located about 15 minutes drive from Argostoli, it's probably best to hire a car. Again, Ilias arranged this for us and a car was delivered to the hotel - no fuss! Plenty of parking and a petrol station just across the road. Although it's on a main road (which makes it convenient for getting out and about), it is peaceful and scenic. The whole hotel is immaculate, beautifully maintained and built to a really good standard. The pool area is lovely with a snack bar serving drinks and snacks all day (including a delicious home cooked traditional Greek dish each day). Our accommodation was excellent. Spotlessly clean and really comfortable. A simple breakfast but with plenty of choice. We can't recommend it highly enough and will definitely be returning!

Just returned from Ionis hotel after a lovely holiday in Kefalonia. Illias & Perri are very welcoming & friendly & helpful. It's a pity there wasn't a few more restaurants nearby tho but nothing much is close so a car is advisable.,Although Illias offers to drive his guests up to the castle area restaurants which have amazing views & must visit! Especially The olive lounge & Kastro cafe , Il borgo was lovely as well but the olive lounge is something special. Back to Ionis hotel the Pool is lovely & has a snack bar & although we always managed to find a sun lounger in the afternoons the usual towels being placed on them takes place early morning! One of my bugbears shouldn't be allowed anywhere! Breakfast was ok but perhaps bacon instead of them sausage pieces & freshly cooked eggs instead of them piled on top of each other would make it much better as most like soft egg yolks :) but it's a small breakfast area so I know it's not easy. Thanks for your efforts Illias & perri. . May see you again next year.

We arrived at ionis later on at night, greeted by Perry who seamlessly took us through checking in whilst telling us about various restaurants/shops local to hotel. Ideally food was sought right opposite on 1st night Great little hotel spotlessly clean with all welcoming staff who really can't do enough for you!! Spent day around pool then were taken up to one of 2 amazing restaurants, both reasonably priced, the olive lounge is by castle over looking the mountain, great food & service, couple days later went to the other il borgo.....more traditional & my fave of the two same fantastic views + amazing food!!!! Next day through hotel hired scooters without drama, & discovered hidden coves &sights all over. We were leaving late on last day & illias let us stay in room for no extra charge........ absolutely unbelievable service from this family run hotel who deserve all the good reviews.....they certainly go above & beyond whilst working there socks off!!!

Stayed at this hidden gem for 17 days and what a perfect relaxing time we had . The family are most charming and work relentlessly to accommodate your every need . It is exceptionally clean everywhere . The pool area is so peaceful and the views are amazing all around . We had a first floor room facing the pool and garden it was perfect . The owners take you to nearby restaurants and pick you up too which was great as it is very remote . We went to two bbq evenings both were fabulous good food and we had fun . Nothing is too much trouble for these people and to the beautiful Dina on pool bar you are a ray of sunshine and make the days special . We will for sure be back to this small hotel as it is everything we love when on holiday .

The wife and i have just returned from our 3rd visit at this fantastic 2 star hotel which is run by Perri and ilios along with the rest of the family along with Dina working at the pool bar who always has a smile on her face. The barbecue was a new addition this year which really went well along with the music and dancing which the hosts took part. This is a hotel that deserves more stars for its allround cleansiness and the help on hand if you need information.

We have just returned from 12 nights at this little gem. The rooms are basic but spotless and everything you need for a comfortable sleep. We had room 210 which faced the castle and enjoyed the lovely view from our balcony. The pool area is lovely and the pool itself was large and kept immaculate. There is a pool bar serving drinks and food and a homemade special every day. The mousaka was out of this world. Dina who works behind the bar was so sweet and always smiling. Illias the owner was so attentative and he and his wife Peri work relentlesly to make sure everything is perfect. Thankyou! There are 2 restautants near the castle and Illias kindly books you a table and takes you up there and collects you. The hill is very steep and if you dont hire a car would be very difficult to access (unless you are very fit), we certainly wouldnt have been able to attemt it! There is a bus stop right actoss the road from the hotel which takes you into Argostoli and there is a mini market and grill restaurant only a few steps away which was super convenient for us. There is also a bakery about a 20 minute walk away who sell the most amazing cakes, pastries and sandwiches. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday with beautiful views and lovely hosts then this is the place for you. We met some really nice people, some of whom we will remain friends with. Well done Ionis, you should be very proud. We will definately be back which is something we wouldnt normally do but just cant resist returning to this perfect place
