Our first visit to Spetses. Villa Martha was recommended to us for its charming, rustic simple style that is typically Greek. If you are expecting a sleek modern hotel this is not for you. What Villa Martha does offer is a relaxing slice of Spetses, an exceptionally warm welcome, clean rooms, beautiful shaded garden area and swimming pool. Breakfast is simple but adequate. We had two rooms, one had a lovely balcony overlooking the garden. Located a short walk from Paradise Beach and within easy reach for the old/new town and it’s array of bars and restaurants. They are walkable, or you can hire bicycles, taxi or horse and carriage.
Villa Martha is a homely family run hotel and Dimitri and Vasiliki are fantastic hosts. Friendly and offering the warmest welcome, nothing is too much trouble.

We stayed four days at this lovely hotel / guest house. The rooms were good, the garden was absolutely beautiful. Good pool. Very friendly hosts. No noise from mopeds (which could otherwise be a problem on Spetses). Close to grocery store, beach (Paradise beach) and restaurants (Old harbor). We paid 75 euro per night per double room, which was certainly good value. If we are going to Spetses again, we will definitely stay here.

For our summer holiday we spent 4 nights in Spestes at Villa Martha (130 Euro) and 3 nights in Hydra at Phaedra Hotel (110 Euro).
Positives for Villa Martha are as follows:
1) garden - very pleasant with a good sized pool for a small hotel with breakfast tables a few feet away. Of the smaller hotels in Spetses, definitely one of the best -much more space than much more expensive Orloff Resort a few minutes walk away.
Large front garden cuts out the problem of motor bike noise that a lot of hotels suffer from in Spetses due to horrendous number scooters and motor bikes,
2) location - if you do not mind the 15 minute walk to town. Not ideal if you are not willing to walk into town, but good for Agia Marina beach which is OK and where the adjoining restaurant although not cheap is very good. Big positive is a great little beach which is accessed by walking down the street running perpendicular to main road and nearly opposite hotel. You pass a lot of very nice expensive holiday villas to get to. This beach has no taverna and is popular with residents. You can see it from Agia Marina beach but a bit difficult to get to.

Neutral/Negative:
1) room - bedroom pretty bland and pretty small - standard cheaper Greek hotel fare. We overlooked the back street so not the greatest view. Street was quiet. Bathroom small and very ugly and needing refit. A/C OK but blowing over bed too much. Bed firm - typically Greek, OK.
2) Breakfast - standard cheaper Greek hotel - i.e not exactly special, but acceptable.
3) service - mixed. First day we asked for towels for the beach and was told that there were none as it was not a resort hotel. This type of answer is a micky take - is there an expectation of hoteliers that you have to fly from another country with beach towels when staying in a 130 Euro hotel. As we muttered what a joke and started going back to the room to get the room towels the owner went and got some old towels. We also rang for pick up from the harbour- as it specifically states on the website that pick up and drop off to harbour are provided. They picked us up only when we rang a second time as no cabs were around - we had come in on a small boat from Tolo not the main ferry, but had to get a horse buggy to take us back. I really resent the website stating one thing which is explicitly ignored in practice. Rest of service was actually OK and quite friendly -they seemed to take a day to weigh us up and we got a positive reaction despite our towel request. But overall - the owner managers need to take a few lessons in hotel management from the Phaedra. They seem to have gone into the hotel trade as they think it will be fun but are not willing to provide the service that is demanded to make a really good small hotel.

Conclusion: in the end the overall pleasantness of the garden meant I was ok with the hotel choice (just) but I would not go back again. Having checked out the Orloff - if 20% more expensive than Martha I would go to Orloff, Resort but at double the price for ordinary space, a breakfast that looked nothing special but a more stylish room - I would still go for the Martha. If I had the money I would be tempted to take over the hotel and make it a lot better with a major fit out and better management.

Island - the main harbour town is pleasant and lots of restaurants. Our favourite was Bouboulina on the harbour - good value and good food but some times a bit curt service. recommend the open air cinema - on top of a building so very pleasant when there is a breeze. Beaches are OK. Big downside - motor bikes/scooters, what a racket. What a relief to go to Hydra and the peace and quiet of no motor bikes and no cars. Better hotels and peacefulness made Hydra for me a winner over Spetses' better beaches.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed comfortable.

However, I can definitely say that the room was not good value for money. The room was old and needs to be renovated. The balcony was tiny with no view and it was not completely separated from the balcony of the adjacent room.

The air condition was old but functional.

The bathroom was clean, but not something exceptional.

The swimming pool seemed nice, but I did not use it.

The garden was beautiful and neat.

Breakfast: It was ok, but the options were limited. Hot coffee was available, but I would prefer to have been offered cold coffee as it is summer.

Location: Easy access to the old port. You will need approximately 20 minutes if you want to walk to the new port, Dapia, from where the ships and sea taxis depart.

Overall, the facilities do not represent the money you pay. When I booked this room I was expecting something much better. I'm sure that with less money you can find a room of the same or even better quality.
I have travelled all around Europe and with 90 euros per night I have stayed in high-quality rooms.

If the price was 60-70 euros per night I would have given 4 stars, but with a price of 90 euros per night the best rating I can give is 2 stars.

It's a very nice villa close to the old harbour, the best area of Spetses town to go for a walk and have dinner.
The owner was very kind and welcoming. She explained us where are located the beaches and which are their main characteristics and differences.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The garden of the villa is fresh, sunny and shaded. There is a wonderful swimming pool where we spent a lot of time.
Breakfast is quite simple but OK considering the price you pay for the accommodation. It includes fresh orange juice.
I highly recommend this accommodation and Spetses as an island.

This hotel is nice but definitely not value for money.

I’ll start with the positives:

The beds are comfortable.
The gardens are beautiful.

Now the negatives:

At over 100 euros a night this hotel is not value for money.

The rooms are tired, very basic and not particularly clean.
There’s a tiny mini fridge (ours was full of rust) and no kettle.
The pool area is dirty, has no depth markings, and no umbrellas for shade.
The bar is very expensive - 5 euros for a 330ml can of mythos.
Air con is particularly noisy.
Breakfast is poor, bread and jam, yoghurt and a poor selection of fruit and hard boiled eggs. If you want toast you have to ask for it.

In all, had this hotel cost half the price I wouldn’t be disappointed but it wasn’t, and we were. I wouldn’t stay here again.

This our 3rd visit to Spetses & our 3rd stay at Villa Martha. Dimitri & Vassilki are fantastic hosts, always making us feel so welcome - we really wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
A beautiful, charming typically Greek villa set in an oasis of citrus trees, pretty lawns & wonderful pool. If you want a modern sleek hotel this is not for you.
Rooms are simple & traditional , air conditioned & cleaned daily. Breakfast is served outside overlooking the lawn & pool. Located a short walk from one of the many beaches & 10-15min walk from the old harbour. For us this place is all things Greek & perfect.

We stayed in Villa Martha Spetses having booked last Christmas. We were met by Demetrius our host. We were made to feel most welcome. The decor is artistic and homely.
We had the most super time, our hosts were wonderful people that could not have been any kinder or more thoughtful, we were genuinely sad to leave. It’s every bit as lovely as it looks in the pictures and is spotless. Breakfast was great too.
Wholeheartedly recommend 😊

We had the pleasure of staying at Villa Martha over the last couple of days.
It was a last minute booking and we were incredibly lucky to get their last room.

Checked in to my room and the toilet was still dirty from the previous guest!!
Offered an upgrade to another room.
The so called "housekeeping" just changes the bed sheets and nothing else.
The Hotel has nothing to do with the photos in their site.
Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else.
Charging 90 euros for this room is an absolute joke
