Wonderful clean and comfortable stay. It's located in a part of town where are dealing more with the locals which was fine with me. A sand beach was 5 minutes down the road. The accomodations were great and the staff exceptional with special kudos going out to Ιωάννα (Joanna), who was an unmitigated pleasure. The kindness extended to our departure, where the staff gave us a bagged lunch as we were leaving too early for breakfast. Many thanks! Would gladly return.

This was our first visit to The Golden Bay, and we are very happy to add to all these positive and well deserved reviews. First and foremost we would like to thank the staff who cannot do enough to ensure their guests have a wonderful holiday. We arrived at midnight and were actually greeted off the bus by Margarita, who was really warm and welcoming. She walked us to our room, gave us all the information we needed and enabled us to have the much needed air con on the our first night. The pool bar stays open late so we then enjoyed a night cap: a great start to what continued to be a lovely holiday. Our apartment was spacious with a great balcony providing lovely pool and sea views. Exactly what we needed. The breakfast offers a wide choice of well prepared dishes, to be enjoyed in the beautiful setting of the hotel’s taverna which is very open, light, and spacious with panoramic stunning views of the sea. We booked on a bed and breakfast basis but ended up eating all our evening meals here too as we appreciated the ambience, choice and and value for money. We spent most of our week by the pool in the mornings: there are ample good quality sun beds, with plenty shade for those who want it, and Joanne to keep everyone smiling, and our afternoons on the beach, as we enjoyed the breeze, either by Freddie’s or Avro: free sun beds and umbrella for the price of a drink, how sensible, and you can get served on the beach! The sea would be perfect for many: a soft, sandy sea bed, shallow for a long way out with small waves to play in. So safe. We caught the local bus to Heraklion, (like a tour bus with conductor and air con). Maria and George talked us through the day and it was great. A visit to the Palace of Knossos and the Museum is a must, finishing off with a cool break in the Old Town and including transport and admission cost, the whole day only cost us 25 euros each. Our departure was on a midnight flight and check out was 10.30 am, but again our last day was not the usual endurance test, due to thoughtful attention to detail. There are two ensuite showers with plenty fresh towels, in the same space as the luggage room, which is adjacent to the pool, so accessible all day. Thus we could enjoy a full beach and pool day, shower and change as normal, enjoy the evening meal and then have a comfortable wait for a 9.30pm pick up, on the sofas in the reception area overlooking the sea. There is even a thoughtfully placed recliner, perhaps for any extra long waits. The staff even came out to wave us off with a hug and a final smile before our very 20 minute transfer to airport. I could go on, but I rarely read reviews that look too long, so I can only finish by thanking the staff again: Rania and George, Joanne, Margarita and Maria, the cleaners who keep the rooms and communal areas immaculately clean, and also say sorry to anyone who I haven’t mentioned by name, due to my poor memory rather than your excellent contribution to making Golden Bay such a lovely hotel to visit. We have travelled extensively, and therefore appreciate the huge difference good service makes. We hope you can all enjoy a well deserved rest at the end of the season, and we look forward to seeing you soon because, of course, we hope to return. My brother and sister in law have just booked on our recommendation, and will be arriving the 1st October. That says it all. We are sure they will have as lovely a holiday as we did.

We have just finished our week at Golden Bay and cannot say a big enough thank you to all the staff there. We stayed for a week, half board and had a fab time. The hotel itself is right by the sea front and has local supermarkets within 5mins walk. Our room was clean and modern and had a mini kitchenette (although we never really used it) which would be able to accommodate a decent home cooked meal if eating out wasn't your thing. Golden Bay itself is a lovely, family oriented place run by the loveliest of people. We were met on the road as the coach pulled up by Maria who was really welcoming. Joanna is one of the staff around the bar and pool area and is just fun and warmth on speed! The pool area is a decent size and was always clean. There was a little area where people had been kind enough to leave books they'd finished and there were always floats and balls etc at the pool to use. The restaurant attached, The Tavern, is a lovely place and the food is good. This is run by Rani and a couple of other staff who were there every breakfast and meal time who went out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The food was buffet style and, as my wife pointed out, this actually helped us try out new foods and felt like we were eating from different menus each night. The setting of Golden Bay couldn't be more picturesque as it's right on the seafront and the sun sets each night behind the hills off to the left. It's a good base to visit lots of the surrounding towns in the middle of the island; Hersonissos, Herakleion and Khokini Chani. This can all be accessed by bus which can be taken from the bust stop about 10min walk from Golden Bay. The only reason I wouldn't give Golden Bay 5/5 is that on our last night we got eaten alive by mosquitoes. Although this isn't technically a fault with the place per se it could have been solved by nets on the doors. The staff there really make you feel like you're family staying with relatives. Thank you again, we will be thinking about you all for a long time to come.

Have just returned from a week at the Golden Bay and we loved it! From the moment you step in the hotel you are looked after. All the staff are truly wonderful especially Joanna who runs the pool bar in the day!! We had room 208 and it was perfect for the two of us. Beautiful balcony over looking the mountains. Lovely table and chairs and food out drying rack, perfect for relaxing in the evening and playing cards. Really modern bathroom - the room was cleaned everyday and the cleaners are excellent and work so hard. We paid for air con as the rooms do get quite warm and would recommend. Pool- the pool was lovely and really chilled out with music playing. Really big parasol umbrellas if you need shade and Joanna always put these up for us if we needed. We only had food here on the day we arrived and it was great. Plenty of sun and shade! Really comfy clean sunloungers too! Beach, we walked to the beach most days which is no further than 5 minutes away. If you go to any of the bars and get drinks you can use their loungers all day. If you go to Freddy’s beach bar they serve you on the beach which is really nice. I would recommend Avra and In and Out for lunches. Resort- we ate in both the resort near the hotel and also walked up to Kokkini Hani. If you follow the road to the beach until the end and turn left you come to a main road, turn right and after 5 mins you will be in the next resort with lots of bars, restaurants and shops. It’s quite a long road so keep going and you will find a lovely restaurant called Taverna Tzo on the end of the strip right by the sea! We also got the bus from here one day to Heraklion which cost 2€ per person each way. Bus was air conditioned and took about 25 mins! The bus stop at Heraklion is also really nice and the customer service desk will help you find the right bus home! Lots of peoples reviews said the resort was derelict and run down but it is a typical Greek resort and we loved it! We also walked to Gouves one night, if you come out the hotel and turn right about 30-45 minutes and you are there, again lots of shops restaurants and bars! We got a taxi back as it was a bit of long walk and was dark! We loved the hotel and the resort and really can’t find much fault with it at all. I hope to come back one day with my children! Thank you to all the team at Golden Bay x x

Had a wonderful week at the Golden Bay hotel. Would recommend if you want a quiet week chilling. Lovely rooms most with pool view. Excellent staff that look after you well. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Lovely pool (new sunbeds where delivered on our first day). Hotel is on the seafront with great views of the bay. We went Half board. Breakfast was really nice. Lots of choice. The evening meal was waiter service and was freshly prepared and you had a good choice. Overall thoroughly good stay and would go back.

Stayed here for a week B&B, plus we ate in the taverna on a couple of nights. Welcoming and friendly place. Clean & tidy. There is a room to keep your luggage in after check out on your last day along with a shower, which is great if you have a late flight home like we had. Should you want to explore Crete on the local buses there is a 20 minute walk to the bus stop. We enjoyed the stroll but perhaps not so good if you are unable to walk far.

Beautiful hotel Didn't realize it was a 4* as we got a good deal.my word we were so surprised by the attentiveness of the staff in each area. The cleaners were second to none and worked long hours and came in everyday. Bar staff were so happy and really went out of their way to make your stay a lovely one. Also Penelope and Maria in the tarverna were beautiful girls and nothing was too much trouble for them. Such a friendly hotel and one of the best we've stayed in in 18yrs quiet friendly and relaxing. I hope the owner of this hotel knows how super his staff and hotel are and we will definitely be coming back. Overall not one complaint everything was A* from start to finish Thank you Golden Bay xxxxx

Just returned from a wonderful week at Golden Bay. We went with friends, 4 kids between us. Comfiest bed we've ever had on holiday. Amazing attentive staff. Lovely lovely place. Kids already asking to go back next year. Some fantastic tavernas within 5-10mins walk. Hotel restaurant food is excellent too. Pool is small but adequate for 2x pre teens and 2 younger siblings. Pool table in the shade a welcome distraction. Can't fault the place. We will return.
