We decided to spend the day at the Icarus beach resort belonging to the Royal Marmin Hotel. We were delightfully welcomed by a polite young man who couldn't do enough for us. How it seemed to change when we ordered some food. The Club Sandwich stated, chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. I explained I have a problem with my stomach and cannot eat fat, so NO Mayonaise required. He agreed and said it would come on the side. A massive lovely plate arrived which was overwhelming and came with oven baked curled thin sliced potatoes. When I looked...every bit of bread had a thick layer of cheese inside. I had to remove ALL the bread as with Gallstones fat is a no no. I called over the waiter who appeared to be the manager and explained that the menu doesnt state it has cheese. He was rude and said 'all club sandwiches everywhere have cheese'. So I ate my lunch, which consisted of the insides of the sandwich minus any bread and cheese. Luckily there was a roll left from the bread they give you when you arrive. At 17€ per sandwich I was not looking for money back nor a refund.. but as I did explain I had gallstones and could not eat much fat before ordering (and cheese was not mentioned on the menu description) I would have thought he would have brought me some slices of plain toasted bread to make it right. Seems he couldnt be bothered. Oh well. Put it down to experience and dont eat there again. On the plus side, the beach beds are lovely and comfortable.

We stayed here for 12 nights, a wonderful romantic stay, lovely fresh fluffy towels in the room, pool and beach. Private pool with stunning views over Elounda and Spinalonga. Crisp white sheet to slip into at the end of each beautiful day. Super service by the lovely beach team. Would recommend!!

7 things we loved about this hotel: - Cool territory - several levels on a hill connected by lifts or club cars - Amazing pool area with the best view! Sunrise is especially spectacular! - Breakfast is served in a main restaurant next to the pool. And buffet has everything you can only imaging for a breakfast - Hotel has private beach with a beach bar, good taverna and water sports station. We could simply spend entire day there - There are 4 restaurants: main restaurant by the pool, taverna on the beach, famous Japanese restaurant Samurai and creative Italian restaurant Poseidon, and 2 bars - pool bar and beach bar (Tipp - try Pornstar Martini cocktail - relaxing spa facility with sauna, steam bath and face/body treatments. Deep hydrating facial is my favorite 😍 - professional, welcoming, helpful personnel 👍 We will come back! Thank you Marmin Bay!

Checking out today and headed back to the US after two weeks traveling all over Greece. We stayed in about 5 hotels throughout our stay ranging from 3 star boutiques to the amazing 5 Star Megaron and we’re honestly confused about how we feel about this hotel. Pros- Breathtaking views Conveniently located between Plaka and Elounda Staff at the pool and beach were helpful and kind Plenty of parking Nice pool area with comfortable loungers The beach area has sand unlike many of the surrounding hotels Complimentary room upgrade Complimentary cake for our anniversary Check in was smooth with lemonade offered One of the best massages my husband and I have ever had Delicious daily breakfast buffet with Prosecco on Sunday’s Cons- I found the bed much too soft and woke with pain- leading to getting the massage. Had trouble sleeping most nights. Inquired if they could change the removable topper and I have no idea if they did. Sleep didn’t improve. The room always had several mosquitos. When we arrived the bathroom window was open and there were about 15 bugs flying around. We shut it and were careful but the maids may have mistakenly left some in because they kept appearing. The food prices are absurd. Considering they’re so generous at the complimentary breakfast I don’t understand this. Drinks are in line with US prices but didn’t see them this high anywhere else in Greece. Also, $1.50 for an espresso capsule and $4.50 for water (excluding the one complimentary water). We received free espresso capsules even at the 3 star boutique hotels! We ended up eating in town for all meals because it felt like a rip off. We lost electricity when preparing for our dinner reservation (using an iron and charging a phone only). This only occurred in our room and It was fixed by the time we returned 4 hours later but was a huge interruption and not even complimentary water was offered as an apology (or any apology for that matter). The bathtub had mold in it and the sprayer didn’t work. The hotel is beautiful and many of the staff work very hard. There are definitely some issues that keep me from feeling like this was a 5 star experience however. There was no turn down and we were charged or tried to be sold producers at any opportunity (even after massage). Despite the issues I enjoyed my time at the Royal Marmin but wouldn’t return or recommend to friends.

You realise this hotel is a bit special from the moment you arrive. Fabulous views and perfectly situated between Plaka and Elounda if you want other dining experiences as those on site are quite pricey. The staff are all superb and are always smiling and friendly. The gym assistant is probably the most friendly man in the world. He was just spot on, Great place and although expensive on balance you are getting what you pay for. One observation: make the room coffee pods free as they would be in most hotels as part of the hospitality tray.

The hotel is impressively designed and constructed on a hillside which gives stunning views. It's also beautifully lit up at night. It’s well positioned between Plaka and Elounda Bay – both around a 15 minute walk or short taxi ride. Highly professional 5 star service by every member of staff at all times. Very good buffet selection. As dinner was included in our booking, we dined at the fabulous Poseidon restaurant for 2 nights when the main buffet restaurant was closed – a bonus. Just a few comments about amenities: - reception - the exterior was probably more impressive than the interior. A lot of marble, felt a little clinical.. - The room safes were too small for laptops or tablets. - Considering the hotel prides itself on its ‘green’ credentials, we were surprised to find our towels were changed every day. A nice luxury but not very ‘green’. - Free drinking water not available... we were expecting to find at least one central drinking water tap at the hotel for re-filling water bottles (found in hotels in remote places around the world). Water in the mini bar was in recycled packaging admittedly, but chargeable. We noticed plastic water bottles were being used at breakfast. If a central drinking water tap was installed near the main bar for example, it could be used by both staff as well as guests. We realise that a certain amount of engineering would be required to install a water distilling system, but it would certainly raise the game for the Royal Marmin in terms of ecological status.

A perfect stay between Elounda and Plaka at Royal Marmin. We were upgraded on arrival (a pleasant surprise after booking last minute) to a Superior Double with amazing views up and down the bay, and of Spinalonga. We had one small hiccup during a meal at the hotel (service related at Samurai), but this was rectified with apologies and a bottle of Prosecco sent to our room. Pool/beach boys were super helpful with laying towels out on the Sunbeds, putting umbrellas up etc, and gave great service for drinks/cocktails/lunch. We noticed the owner intervening to ensure a perfect experience on a couple of occasions - we were impressed! All staff were fantastic, and genuinely keen to greet us. Special mention to Nikos, who was our favourite friendly face at breakfast each day. Staff also allowed us to remain in our room free of charge until 17:00 on departure day. Drink/meal prices are high, but the service reflects a premium experience. Would not hesitate to recommend.

This is the worst service I ever had in Greece. We were a group of 6 and took three sunloungers. The towel boy was very professional but sadly this is the only positive thing I can say. The bar service was an absolute mess. We paid for the sun loungers (3 times 30 euros) and were then asked multiple times if we paid an who we paid to quite aggressively almost accusing us of not paying. Same thing continued. I was asked to pay no less than three times for our first drinks even though I continued ordering, and made three orders in total. Any cheap beach bar allows a client to open a tab for the day without being hounded constantly by numerous members of the staff. My friend was asked to pay her bill twice in the same agressive manner before they resolved it. Honestly, the service was just shockingly bad especially given that it is supposed to be a luxe place. The water is also not very clear in the little bay. Overall I would avoid.

We are kinda picky couple and especially My partner usually finds something to complain about. But not with Marmin Bay! We were enjoying every single day there and everything surprised us by high quality. Every person working there was doing their 100% and service was just excellent. We felt like royals. Room were cleaning up every day two times and there was lot of space in the closets. View from the room was so spectacular that it was ok just stay in room sometimes and enjoy the views. Last night we visited their restaurant Poseidon and it absolutely blew us away with its high quality and service. We suddenly felt like we are in Michelin Star restaurant.
