This is the second time we’ve stayed. We booked again on the strength of our first visit back in 2018. Sadly there’s been no investment since then and it’s all now looking a bit tired. Our room (809) was way past it’s sell by date and in need of some serious refurbishment. Sun beds around the pool were also past their best. We made allowances as I think many people will this year, given what we’ve been through. We were just glad to be away and made the most of our time there. View and location is lovely but definitely need to be reasonably fit as the hotel is on a hill (hence the view) and lots of stairs to deal with. Fine for us and we knew what to expect. We went B&B as we knew there were some fab restaurants in the town and they didn’t disappoint. Definitely would not do all inclusive as food in the hotel is average. Service not what it was either with many new staff, mostly from Eastern Europe, not yet up to speed. We did however have some great service from the staff at the pool bar. Anastasia and Yiannis in particular went the extra mile. Reception staff were surly and not particularly helpful. A special call out to the gentleman who turned down our request for a late checkout and couldn’t really be bothered to find another option. We voted with our feet and spent our last day in the town rather than round the pool and spending money in the hotel. The town is the highlight here and we would go back but not to the Miramare. We’ll book independently and probably choose a boutique hotel in the town. Jet 2 need to get into the hotel and have a proper look round before marketing it the way they do. Otherwise, the flights were great and luckily no issues at the airport. Jet 2 seem to have got it right in that respect. With the right owner, and some serious investment this could be a gem but fell well short of 4 star for us anyway.

This was our first time in Crete & it deffinately won’t be my last . We had a 3 bedroom villa on the Miramare complex and what a lovely villa it was - plenty big enough & equipped for 4 of us , spotlessly clean & amazing sea views . The town was a 20 min walk & was so worth going into - fabulous shops ( especially the jewellers) , restaurants & scenery - to just sit my there , enjoy a vino & people watch after a very strange time was just amazing . We ate in the hotel on a couple of occasions which was lovely

The hotel is in a fantastic setting. The views over the bay towards the mountains and to the harbour are as good as any high class hotel I’ve stayed in. A lot of people on TripAdvisor comment on the stairs and strong winds. The hotel has a lot of stairs due to it being on a hillside and the wind is natural for Crete. So if you don’t like hills, stairs or wind then take it from the people on here, it’s all true! However, if like my family and I, things like this don’t bother you then don’t be put off. It’s a great place to relax and escape. The rooms we had were clean and well prepared for our stay. The cleaning staff do a great job in keep the standards high. The room however are a little overdue a refresh, but nothing too drastic. Bathrooms do require updating. We had a large three person room with two aircon systems. Unfortunately one didn’t work and wasn’t repaired while we were there. Even after explaining it issue in the first evening. This make sleeping a little difficult until we got use to the climate. The rules around the use of the pools was lost on me. Some days they were open as soon as anyone wanted to use the Sun Terrence and other days there were staff cleaning the areas until mid morning and a rather angry little chap storming round the place locking gates and not telling guests what was going on. All very bizarre, but that said, you can’t take it away from the pool staff that it was very clean and well presented everyday. The restaurant is very clean and well run. The restaurant staff are great and do a sterling job. In my opinion the breakfasts are ok. Just choose well and you’ll find something else that you’ll like. The lunch was more to our taste than the evening meal. Great salad menu for lunch which we tended to book rather than evening meals, as we’d go into town to eat in the evenings. Overall we found the hotel clean, tidy and staffed by people that care about what they do. Don’t let the score of 3 put you off. It’s a good, well run facility. I’m probably just used to self-catering holidays where I’m more in control of what I’m doing and when. I’m doing it.

Me and my partner traveled with my mother and sister. Let's start white the positives: Absolutely huge outdoor area, mostly private unless some one walks up to the villas main gate. The villas outdoor facade and outdoor area is fantastic. Decent sized pool. Dining area by the pool for 10 persons, placed under a pergola by the outdoor pizza stove. It is followed with a little smaller lounge table with slightly more comfortable chairs. They have also placed a quite nice singal hammock, though the fabric needs replacing. Out side of the villa there is a huge outdoor area, with red tiles. Easily fits 40 people, 6 outdoor sunbeds and a dining table suited for 8 people. The villa: Aircon in all bedrooms and one that covers the main 1 floor. 3 floors in total if you count the basement. Decent sized tarrace on the second floor. Double beds in all rooms so easily fits 4 couples. Full sized kitchen, dining table for 6, living area with 2 couches. Movie room in the basement with one couch and a desk. Private bathrooms in all rooms and a toilet by the main door. The negatives: Must be honest here, we are quite welthty Norwegians used to high Scandinavian standards. Nothing in this villa/resort doesn't even slightly satisfy our expectations. Fiat impression is late 90's interior vibes followed with huge renovation needs. Easiest to say that almost everything needs replacing. Not one drop from the first floor faucet hits the sink, use goggles! Black mold in most of the bathrooms. Stained shower curtains in every bathroom placed around insanely small showers. 22 year ++ hot tub in the second floor. Most surfaces are worn down except the lovley marble stairs. Most of the outdoor lights don't work. Many of the sockets hang loose, wouldn't use those if I were you. Summary: The negatives listed above sums up my over all impression. All though the totally amazing view almost makes it all worth it. The villa sits about 50 m above sea level, and it's about 6 mi walk to the resort's beach (cheap 10€ for 2 sunbeds). Golf cars drive you around if needed, mostly a villa privilege. All inclusive drink menue is one of the better we have experienced on Crete, but the so called snacks are mediocre, if you find any.. Very polite staff. The staff in the main bar works their as of, very impressive.

We had a lovely 10 night stay at the miramare in July. The breakfast was great with plenty of choices and the hotel staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The view from the balcony was stunning with a 180 degree sea view. The resort is built into the mountainside therefore a bit of a climb to get up to our room. This would not be a suitable place for people with mobility issues or families with small children. Unfortunately because we were high up the housekeeping staff seemed to come to us last which sometimes was as late as 7pm. Otherwise great place to stay and only a 10/15 min walk to the main resort

Dear Mrs. Louise, Firstly, let us thank you for choosing to stay with us. It gives us great pleasure to hear about your pleasant experience with the choices for breakfast and friendliness of our staff. We truly appreciate making us aware of the cleaning time at 7pm which I understand, it may not be convenient for you. I wished it could be addressed during your stay to our Reception Desk and we would communicate with the housekeeping manager to ensure that the cleaner comes during the most suitable time for you. There is always an area of improvement, and we thank you for your feedback. The ultimate guest satisfaction is our key to success. Our best wishes and regards always, looking to welcome you back in the future. On behalf of Miramare Resort and Spa Veronika Guest Relations

I stayed here with my niece, booked it two years ago, finally got to go, the hotel is very clean and tidy, we had a room with a small private pool, but it was directly on a footpath so people were constantly walking by and actually staring! not very private at all but very cooling in the heat, beautiful views across mirabello bay and the mountains beyond. the food in the main hall is very nice, different selection each night, gets very busy sometimes with people bumping into each other, yes there were some greedy guts people who liked to pile their plates up to the hilt and get as much for their money as possible, you can go up and get more no need to do this, some guy was literally leaning over a member of the catering staff trying to take cakes off the tray she was still holding to put out! rude. the maitre d is very good, will lead you to a table, you order your drinks then you can go get some food. if you're like me and take sugar in your tea, take a tip and take some with you, they have a real issue with giving out sugar sachets, you get a little glass on the table with two white sugar and two brown sugar and some sweetener, once you have used this you get looked at strangely if you ask for more, also noticed that they remove the sugar only from the tables after lunch but leave the rest? the bar won't Give you any and the shop sells it for 40 cents per sachet, so take some! there is a small shop along the street you can but bits and pieces from, lilos sun creams etc, cute little lady in there. there is a bar next to the hotel which is very loud and noisy, football fans will like it. also a bar across from there on the beach which is ok, not busy or much happening but ok if you want to sit and drink and look across the sea. tui will charge you 66 euro per person to go on the boat trip to spinalonga Island. dont book with them, take the walk from the hotel to the harbour, buy a ticket for £18 euro then its 8 euro to enter the island. plenty of places to get food and drink at the harbour on your return if you wish.take a map of the area and go down to the old town and find the lake, lots of bars and restaurants looks lovely lit up at nighttime. we found a music festival going on down there one night, lots of people music and dancing. the beach by the hotel is quite stoney, hurts your feet, if you leave the hotel and turn right, follow the path down through the trees there is a beach there with sunbeds which are about 5 euro per bed includes an umbrella. toilets and also a snack bar where you can get amazing cocktails in a watermelon or a pineapple, 12 euro, also burgers and chips and toasted sandwiches, I recommend the tuna toasty very nicely presented, hot and comes with fries. they do a greek night at the top pool. massive amounts of different meats on the bbq, lots of choice, slow cooked lamb also lots of salad and dessert, 25 euro per person., your drinks are not included in this but its worth it. the greek dancers were very good. two guys and two girls. the cleaner came in everyday, was very nice smell when you come in of bleach, she also arranges your pyjamas in a pretty pattern on your bed which made me smile. all In all I would stay here again. ooh, the tui website say there's an adult only pool, by the bar, there were kids in it, I asked reception and they said all the pools are to be used by everyone. so dont rely on some peace and quiet by any of the pools. tui need to rectify this description.

This is a real mixed bag for us. Luckily we did our research prior to booking the hotel otherwise this would be a two star review. I will start with the pros Best views of any hotel we have stayed at anywhere in the world. Yes, the hotel is on a hill, and yes, there are lots of steps, but you would pay thousands more anywhere else for a view like this. The staff in the restaurant work so hard. You are shown to your seat, but I can totally understand this, there would be chaos otherwise. Location is amazing, 15 min slow stroll to the municipal beach and another 5 mins to the lake. Unfortunately that is all that I can say that is positive. We knew the rooms would be basic, but in fact they are poor. The standard of cleanliness was non existent. Dust everywhere on arrival, The bed was so hard I had bruises on my hips after the first night, luckily found a duvet and slept on this for the following two weeks, The bathroom - well, it really needs painting and the shower was so small I could not shave my legs in there!! Even bending over to pick up the shampoo bottle involved some yoga type moves! The towels were so hard that my partner actually cut his face on on! Paying for a safe???? Never had this before. One key for the room?? And the fact it is not a key card but a key with the name of the hotel and your room number on it - good thing we did not lose it.. Reception staff, unfriendly. Our welcome was more of a brief hello, and when we came to check out, we asked where we could store our luggage for an hour.. to be told “in the luggage room”.. I then had to ask where this was and take it myself!! This is not a language issue either, as the staff at the beach bar nearby and the local taverna were fantastic, Also, no water in the fridge on arrival?? Overall this is a real shame, as we will not be back. It will be interesting to see if management read these comments, as we are not the only ones to say the same things,

We booked a high / superior room with a sea view, we booked this 3 years ago and have been looking forward to the holiday through COVID times. We asked for a high room as my husband does not sleep well, when shown to our room it was lovely but was on the 1st floor overlooking the car park, no way could you sit on the balcony with coaches, buggies and cars . We asked the receptionist if our room could be changed and she said she would see what she could do and contact us the next day….. we heard nothing more. We then met with the Jet 2 rep Emma a few days later to book trip and mentioned the problem with the room, she went to reception and eventually came back with a new room number, it was a high room but just a basic room , the wardrobe was about 18” wide with only 5 hangers, the bath had mould around it and when you flushed the toilet the water came up through the drain onto the floor (photos attached). The next day my husband went to see Emma again who was very sorry and spoke again to reception who then gave us another superior room but this one was in the basement!!! And the hotel drive went past our balcony , it was noisier than the car park but we relented as we had, had enough moving and Emma was so good getting us that last room. There is no real entertainment in the hotel other than a pianist with electronic backing track . The walk into Agios Nikolas was about 20 minutes but the taxi back was only 7 euro’s and there were some nice restaurants and bars situated around the lake, lots of shops but most are very touristy. The hotel food was really good with plenty to choose from at both breakfast and evening meal but the managers system in the evening of getting everyone to queue up the stairs (Dangerous) and then making everyone wait while he chooses seats for each group and takes them to those seats before coming back for the next group , just an unnecessary time consuming system! As other reviews have said , to pay 2 euros for water is pretty bad but I think most hotels do this, when we pay so much for the room you would think this was free. I would advise you to keep a receipt or a photo of your receipt as when we came to pay our bill on our last night at reception it was for much more than we expected, my husband asked for copies of the receipts that he had signed and she said it’s based on trust to which my husband said, no it isn’t, it is business as you are asking me for money and I want to know what I’ve paid for! She asked if we could go back after dinner so that they could find the receipts. After dinner we went back and the 60 euros was now 25 euros as no receipts could be found. Just to add insult to injury at 10.30 that evening we had a call in our room asking us to pay the 2 euros for the water we had that evening which we had already said we would pay in the morning! Avoid the swimming pool at the top … lifeless, boring and blowing a Hoolie (video attached) We were led to believe that the sun beds on the cobbled beach were free but they are not free they are 8 Euros for an umbrella and two beds, having said this the lad that collects the money was very friendly and will bring you drinks etc from the cafe/bar Meltemi it was lovely to have a drink in there at lunchtime. Beware the sun beds, I caught my hand in one and had to leave it in a bag of ice to stop the swelling , another lady did the same a few days later. The views are absolutely stunning but we won’t be returning to this hotel.

Spent 10 days all inclusive with partner and parents, this was absolutely delightful. We would definitely go back! The scenery and view from almost every angle at the resort is breathtaking. We were lucky with rooms that both had views of the sea (this wasn't an upgrade request we just lucked in!). The complex is design is based on more traditional Greek villages rather than touristy, modern block hotels, which makes it feel more authentic. The rooms are more than adequate, very comfy beds, good showers and aircon. Not too many children, although we went pre-school holidays. There didn't seem too much for kids to do (that is also why we chose it!). Yes, it is on hill (that's just Crete!), so if you don't like walking up and down some steep slopes be warned, but if you want unbroken 180 views of the sea, being up a small hill gives you that! Staff - cannot fault them, they were so friendly and couldn't do more to help if asked. They are understaffed but are working really and you wouldn't notice it from the service (but most of Europe & UK is also understaffed in the hospitality industry!) Food - Fresh, traditional and dinner service is very well managed. What's really good to see is the evening dress code being enforced. People getting politely advised on arrival that coming into the evening meal in beach shorts and swim gear (blokes in badly fitting vest tops!) is not really acceptable! It's all very clean and efficient, tables wiped down immediately, all staff wear facemarks all the time. The food is topped up continually and the restaurant has panoramic views across the bay. It's an easy walk to town (20 mins) which is really pretty. A couple of restaurants/bars on the beach in front of hotel, again highly recommend these and the sea is crystal clear, warm and great to swim/snorkel. The beach is pebbles, but there are now some sunbeds (I think there is a small cost, but no one ever asked!). Also a small local store 2 mins from hotel - milk/snacks/beers etc, beach stuff. Facilities - Gym is also ok for this type of place. Regularly cleaned, organised and kit ok. Boat trip to Spinalonga is worth it. Go into town to the harbour and get the tickets direct (take plenty of water, it is hot!!). Overall it exceeded our expectations. The staff have system to help them manage under the circumstances - this includes being shown to your table at dinner, sitting down at the main bar are/balcony for waiter service rather than going to the bar yourself. This works very well, so don't get upset if they direct you (as some individuals did????) We are looking at next year already!!
