For my 60th my husband said he would take me anywhere in the world ie Maldives, Cuba, Caribbean but I chose the Royal mare over the last 20 years I’ve been there 13times . The hotel is absolutely beautiful the grounds are amazing it’s just heaven whilst it’s a very big hotel nowhere is ever crowded in fact it’s always quiet and relaxing . We stayed for 18 days for my birthday and our anniversary and we’re throughly spoilt beautiful birthday and anniversary cakes . Thank you so much to Anna in guest relations who made our holiday special and to all the staff that served us in the restaurant and bars you were all truly amazing and thank yo to Aldenar for rewarding customer loyalty !!! Mitsis please don’t change anything at this beautiful hotel I’ll be back soon !!!

When we first arrived we were given a suite instead of the ‘VIP Bungalow sharing pool’ purchased via TUIUK. * We didn’t ask for this but it was appreciated as it had a disability shower which made life easier for me (Rheumatoid Arthritis)* The room was ok, comfortable and can’t complain, but could do with a make over. I suspect this is due to covid and business's are suffering for money. I’m not sure why TUI market this hotel as 5* it really should be 4* currently. The grounds are lovely and well kept. If you want relaxing this is the place. But you will need to seek out good food and restaurants around Crete so rent a car. Things we did: spa hydrotherapy pools hamman massages reflexology facial and more. All good but massage was not, I think the girl may still have been training. Food/Restaurants Please be aware when booking through TUI, their website is not up to date what they offer as all inclusive is not what you get at hotel - there is no El Greco restaurant and the albatross bar at the beech does not serve what it says in the attached photo from 3:30. You get a tiny cut up wrap if you’re lucky. The allegro snack bar does not offer food from 10am-6pm as stated. It’s 12 till 4pm. We ate a la carte Candia = Mediterranean Royal Palm = Asian Both were very poor standard for 5*. I think this is more TUI’s fault for misleading customers. It’s such a shame as it’s a beautiful place but the food really lets it down. I think the hotel bosses are still trying to work out what market they are aiming at. I asked for late checkout * and was offered 2pm, which was fine, but I suspect something got lost in translation as the Duty Manager said and I quote “You should be grateful as we upgraded you to a suite” and went on about the size and other things for the room. 1. We did not ask for an upgrade so completely irrelevant I will give her the benefit of the doubt. All in all this was ok. But don’t book through TUI as it cost 6000 pounds for two weeks and when you get here you find TUI’s all inclusive version is not the hotels all inclusive version. Last but not least I want to thank Maria, who tirelessly cleaned our room every day. She was lovely to speak with and a credit to the hotel.

If you simply want to relax in sunshine in beautiful surroundings + peaceful atmosphere, this place is spot on. I was very lucky to have terrace/ground floor room in Elektra block - it looked just like photos on the TUI website complete with little island with palm trees in shared pool. As solo traveller this was lovely as could go for swim easily without worrying "are my things safe at side of the pool?" The food in the buffet was delicious. There were trips you could book e.g. to Knossos, otherwise it was a bit tricky to explore the area without renting car. It would have been helpful to have more information about the hotel on arrival (e.g. a map, excursions/activities, options/prices for food if staying b&b). I couldn't find an app for the hotel + was confused as to whether it was Aldemar or Mitsis group. These are minor quibbles though + staff were helpful. Overall, this was a lovely place to stay.

We booked a 1 bedroom sea view bungalow. We got a 3rd floor hotel room with a sea view. We were not impressed. They offered us a room above a restaurant with a pool view which we didn’t accept. We stayed bed and breakfast, there is virtually nothing to do or see in the resort ants the beach isn’t great. We won’t be rushing back. And the Wi-Fi is rubbish. Certainly not the 5 Star rating we were sold. The whole complex needs updating.

We stayed at this hotel and were most disappointed. Our shower was broken and the housekeeping forgot to leave us towels on more than one occasion and toiletries were not replaced. The room was very worn with chipped paint in the bedroom, cracked walls and surrounds to shower and hand basin unit. The handrails down to the pool area were unstable as was the rail in the main corridor to our room. The staff at reception can only be described as rude (apart from one young lady who was extremely helpful. The dining facilities were not good. Trays of buffet food were often low and not replaced regularly. When they did appear they were only luke warm. We were so disappointed having looked forward to this holiday for 3 years. Would not recommend.

I spent 7 nights with my family in Royal Mare. We arrived 4 hours before check-in, but the lady at front desk was so kind and manage our two rooms very soon. What I appreciated the most is very polite, friendly and nice staff. Especially maitre George Michalakis and food and drinks supervisor George Fadel. These guys are one of the nicest people I've ever met on such positions, nothing was impossible for them. Their staff was so nice and helpful. They made me and my family feel like we are important. Other... This resort is located in a beatiful garden, main building has 3 floor, all others are 2 floor. Main restaurant is for breakfast and dinner. Dress code for dinner. Snack bar for late breakfast, lunch and snacks till dinnertime. Three pool bars. Asian restaurant. Evening bar with live music. Thallaso and Spa. Gym, minimarket etc. Two main pools and private pools surrounded by rooms. Sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach. Rooms are well equiped, A/C and ceiling fan, minibar, safe, etc. In one word this resort is perfect! If you want 5 stars on Crete, go here!

We stayed at the Aldemar Royal Mare from Monday 30 May 2022 until Monday 6 June 2022. The whole place feels more like a lovely village rather than a hotel and you feel as if you are staying in an apartment rather than a hotel room. I am there are various types of accommodation to choose from. Ours was a double room with very nice pool and sea views. The room was very clean, spacious and had every thing we needed. Complimentary bottle of wine, bottles of water and fresh fruit were very nice touches, Bath robes and slippers were also included. The bed was very big, very comfortable and the air conditioning could be operated and adjusted for your bedside. It was very effective and not at all noisy. The bathroom was big and very clean. All toiletries were provided and towels were changed every day. Great shower too. Nice balcony to enjoy relaxing at anytime of day and a free to use room safe was provided. We found the whole place to be very quiet at night and that was most welcome. I'm not sure what it is like at busier times of the season though. On site facilities were good. The main pools were set in lovely grounds and there were plenty of sunbeds and parasols. There is a lifeguard at each pool from 10am until 6pm daily. We never saw any early morning sunbed bagging when we were there, but it might go on at busier times of the year. About 300 metres from our rooms was the private beach. It has lots of free to use sunbeds and parasols and beach towels are readily available for guests to use. The is a bar/restaurant (part of the hotel complex) at the beach, serving food and drinks all day. We used the smaller Taverna pool side bar (about 200 metres back into the complex) most days and found the regular member of staff there to be very helpful and attentive. She always met everyone with a smile and provided a very welcoming and friendly service. I think her name is Marie (sorry if I have got that wrong). We enjoyed lovely breakfasts and dinners in the main restaurant where we were looked after wonderfully well by the Restaurant Manager George and his colleagues. A lovely lady called Maria works there and provides a wonderful and very friendly 5 star service. She is an excellent ambassador for the Hotel and always meets you with a big smile and a friendly welcome. Thank you George, Maria and the rest of the team for making us feel so welcome and looking after us so well. We are both very grateful. As for the food, there is something for everyone and it is very good. We liked the informality of the self service buffet for every course, but be aware shorts should not be worn to dinner. We can't provide much information about the surrounding area because we chose to have a relaxing break in and around the hotel. There is a lovely walk, in either direction along the water front and it all feels very welcoming and very safe. Everyone is very helpful and very friendly and reception staff are always on hand to help arrange taxis and anything else you might need. A doctor visits twice a day except on Sundays and is available for a couple of hours am and pm. This was our first visit to Crete and to the Aldemar Royal Mare. Would we go back? Yes. Some of the apartments with private pools look lovely, but at the time we were there there was tons of space around the main pools and down on the beach. Perhaps paying extra for a private pool might be a good idea at the height of the season.

The hotel itself is nice, rooms are big and quiet. Food, meals including a'la carte restaurants is poor, low quality. Service of the staff is average. Should be better for 5-star standard. Location is ok for people who expect more quiet surronding. Hersonissos next to the hotel is a party and loud płace.

We stayed here for a week. Booked through booking.com. June 2022. There is NOTHING not to like. We only had breakfast but the choice was phenomenal. Staff very helpful. Really relaxing. If you were planning a beach holiday, the beach is tiny shells. It’s ok and the sea is gorgeous. Slopped beach also. Better further back toward Heraklion. You can walk along the waters edge for a few miles. Room lovely. We were upgraded on arrival so have a pool. Only a few local tavernas but local town only 3km away. Taxi service excellent. I am lying on my sun bed now😂 going home tomorrow. Really wonderful experience
