Absolutely perfect! We had a very good time there. Perfect position, close to the Monastiraki metro station and the Plaka. The hotel staff were amazing, incredibly friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Have stayed there on previous occasions and would highly recommend the...More
Very clean rooms, small but everything the traveller needs. Location is good only a short walk to the metro connecting you to the airport and Port as well as tourist attractions. The service was very friendly and professional. Would highly recommend and will stay again!
We loved staying at the Athinaikon. Staff were friendly and helpful, even sorting out a taxi for us when we left. The rooms were clean and airy and the location was great. Next to the hustle and bustle of the central market, surrounded by interesting...More
Very very clean. The price was really cheap. It was 5 min walk to Monastiraki metro station but İ never use it for Athens it is max15-20 to everywhere. I definitely recommend it to anyone traveling solo. Staff were lovely.

Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a
sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
