I recently had the pleasure of staying at this comfortable, friendly, extremely well run establishment. I am not one that generally writes reviews, however on this occasion I will make an exception. A huge congratulations must go out to the management& staff for the professional standards set & adhered to by all. I look forward to my next visit. Fos...

We enjoyed our two night stay at Athens Backpackers. The price was a little on the high side (I believe we paid 25 euros a night) but the rooms were nice enough and even had a fridge. The shower was a little problematic because every time we took showers they flooded the entire bathroom. The location was very convenient to...

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed! Great location, great staff! Rooms are big and are extremelly clean. The view from the terrace is awesome. We forgot a pair of glasses and they made everything possible to deliver them back. Is THE place to stay in Athens.

I went to Athens Backpackers unsure of what to expect for an Athens hostel. But what I found was a well run, clean hostel with extremely friendly staff and a perfect location. On the first night I went up to rooftop bar and was immediately met with a warm welcome and a free shot! The bartender was a young Greek...

This was our second visit to Athens Backpackers after a great trip we had last summer. The first thing to note and most importantly is the location! It is situated on a quiet side road just 2 minutes walk from Akropoli Metro tube station. The Akropolis is only 10 minutes walk from the hostel and I would recommend heading up...

If all you need is a cheap place to stay and don't mind sharing room with others, then this place is good. It has its disadvantages when sharing with others as people will enter your room all hours of the day/night, and some may be snorers or toss a lot while sleeping - meaning you don't sleep at all! Only...

This place is fine. Location is great but the facility is nothing special (except for the rooftop patio: which was closed when I was there). The beds are covered in plastic which makes for a strange and squeaky sleep. The bathroom didnt seem to be cleaned very often or well. The shower had a strange cloth curtain that sticks to...

Athens Backpackers is living off past glory and awards, but really needs to lift its game. Start off with some positives: it's very well located, was clean, and the staff were helpful. However, the negatives are many and really are simple things that are basics for any good hostel: The beds in the dorms are camp-bed style that are low...

Hi Jim, We really appreciate your feedback as it's how we get better at what we do. And it helps us offer our guests an even better experience. The property has just opened up after winter and we are replacing all the 3 and 4 person beds as the old ones are too close to the ground, as you mentioned....

While studying abroad, my first independent travel break was spent with two friends in Athens. We found Athens Backpackers and it ended up being a great decision! Our room was being renovated, so Athens Backpackers upgraded our room for us. It was gorgeous and had a beautiful bathroom and kitchenette. Also, the room was spacious and had a balcony overlooking...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
