Yes the hotel is a good price and yes it is near a metro station but the location, omonia, does not feel the safest at night. In fact locals would always ask me why I was staying in the omonia area. But besides that, the hotel itself was not shabby chic, just shabby. It truley lingers between terrible and poor,... More

It is in the center of Athens within walking distance from a metro station and monastiraki area. What we actually wanted to explore the city. The service was great too and the staff keen on helping us any time. The room was also clean and spacious. Overall, it a very good choise for budget travellers.

The location is great and if you're looking for a very budget option then you need to make some compromises. Given this, we were not expecting luxury, but this hotel misses some basics. The room door locks are very weak and unsafe, with only an interior door style latch. There is no liner on the bed and the linen was... More

This hotel is in an excellent location right beside a metro station and 1 stop from the old part of the city's restaurants etc. The hotel could do with some modernisation but this is reflected in the cheap prices. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. We found it comfortable, clean and quiet so overall with the cheap price, perfect... More

Walking distance to the Omonia station, shops/eateries all around, close to all sites, and clean. What more can you ask for if you are staying a few days in Athens. There were five of us us (three adults and two kids) and the two bedroom unit did us fine. The blacony looked on to the main street and you got... More

In the heart of Athens, Greece. You can find clean rooms and friendly staff. In central location in Omonia Square. 50 metres from Metro Station that can take you anywhere in all of Greece. Area is secured 24 hrs. by Athens Police. I stayed ten nights. Lots of areas to do your shopping.

The location of the hotel was very convenient, within walking distance from the metro station and all the touristic sites. Rooms were nothing fancy but were very clean and spacious. Free wi-fi is great. Staff was polite and helpful and did their best to provide us with all the information we needed. Breakfast was as well adequate. We really enjoyed... More

Hotel is right in the city center, it was really handy, all the main attractions, shops, restaurants are within a short walk. We 've stayed for 5 nights. The first night we stayed in a room on the 7th floor with balcony viewing the main street ( and Acropolis from our window ! ). However, since we are light sleepers... More

We chose this hotel as we were a family with kids, looking for a * cheap * short * stay and were able to get an apartment like room (2 rooms + bathroom) with a balcony for less than €100 a night. We knew following reviews on TripAdvisor and other forums that the area is not the best, but we... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.

“Don't stay in Omonia. Buy a book about Greece and familiarize yourself with the neighborhoods before booking. Monstraki is a nice area. We changed hotels to Airotel Alexandros in a different neighborhood which was great. This hotel was farther from the center of athens near the US embassy. It requires a metro ride into other areas but it was great.”
