My wife and I stayed at the Amazon Hotel in October following the readings of Trip Advisor of economy accommodations in and around Plaka, including Parliament House, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and National Gardens. The rooms were well appointed with good furnishings and were clean and well kept. The location of the hotel was at the end of a...

This is excellent value for many reasons (EU33 per night single room rate). Great location about 3 blocks from Syntagma Square and therefore express bus to airport (EU5), Plaka area, main shopping streets, Plaka and Acropolis. On side street so quiet with good aircon and windows that open. Good decor and excellent beds. Bathroom small with normal European semi-circle shower...

I & my wife visited Greece for the first time and not knowing where we were to stay, read a lot of reviews on hotels etc and found good reviews on Amazon Hotel. So we booked it and we are happy we did. I spent two nights here in October 2011. I would say the hotel is about what I expected for the price (90 EUR/night) in a center of a European city. Nothing fancy, just average service and amenities, decent breakfast and a clean room and bathroom. The bed was quite comfortable and there was almost no street noise at all. My...

We booked one night at the Amazon, a short stopover, on our way from the Islands to the airport. We choose Amazon because of the location, the fairly good reviews and the reasonable price (70€) including breakfast. As mention in other reviews elevator and showers are very small (not a big concern for us). Rooms are spotless. Surprisingly, the tiny...

we stayed three nights (within 5 days) in two different rooms. The first was a little "older" than the second but both were fine. the breakfast if you have is "american" and not very interesting. the staff was very pleasant and very helpful. The location was perfect. We walked everywhere. found the bus to the airport on Syntagma square for...

Stayed here for two nights, got a triple room with not a proper window but more like a corner opening that lead to a view of a wall. The room itself was basic but had the necessary appliances and even a mini fridge with some items for purchase. The TV had several channels and CNN international in English. The bathroom...

I stayed here to visit friends for 2 nights & because of my tight time schedule to make dinner I wanted somewhere near to airport transport. This is a few minutes walk from Syntagma, so excellent for the bus or metro connection. Although the room was small (a single), it was adequate & extremely clean with a comfortable bed. The...

I had originally booked a different Hotel, but saw a response from that Hotel's Manager on TA that told that little voice inside me to move to another Hotel. I arrived late or you could say very early in the morning, from the ferry port, as the taxi's were on strike. The front desk personnel was helpful and welcoming. No...

We stayed in Athens at the Hotel Amazon on two occasions in July - in troubled times with the protests and the taxi strike. Battling our way from the railway station to the hotel in an unfamiliar city, with no knowledge of the language, and a lot of luggage, didn't make for a good initial impression! Our experience got better,...

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
