The Dioskouros is totally worth a stay just for location alone. It is around the corner from the Akropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Given it's fantastic location in the Plaka, it is pretty affordable. I will stay almost anywhere for a good price and did not expect it to be as clean, accommodating, and close to archaeological sites...

A great location, you can walk to any of the ancient sites. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was good. Nice to have a sink. Disappointing we could not control the air con ourselves and had to ask the staff to turn it on. Toilets and bathrooms are basic but are clean. A yum free breaky. We would...

Very helpful and friendly English-speaking staff. The location was perfect, within walking distance of most tourist sites. Price range was perfect for what was included, especially if you're on a budget.

This hostel is in a great location for a couple of nights in Athens as it is close to all major sights and to great restaurant and shopping districts. The staff are also friendly and good at recommending places to go and they have a nice social area where they provide a good breakfast that is included in the price....

Really lovely staff who are willing to help and advise on how best to explore Athens! Also a fantastic location! However, we were disappointed with a number of things. There were no safety deposits or lockers as stated on their websites, not great considering Athens isn't the safest of cities. Nor was the lock on our door working! We had...

We stayed at this hostel for 2 nights. Firstly, the rooms had no a/c as advertised, there was also no safe deposit box to place valuables, even though this was advertised. The room was stayed in was not the cleanest, my friends room also had no lock for the duration of the stay. The toilets and showers were not pleasant,...

Amazing location walking distance to Acropolis and Zeus temple, two metro stations and a lot of buses. The staff is very helpfull when you get to talk to them (don't hesitate, ask them for advise and opinions!). 24 hours open and very close to the main roads which is great! The breakfast is not amazing but the living area is...

Fantastic service. The location is great. Very close to everything : food, archeological sites, metro. Easy to go around by foot. You might not see the Acropolis from your window but for the price and all, it's really not a big deal! I had a great 3 days in Athens because of the staff! Keep on the good work :)

We arrived early in the morning from Sofia by bus. Walk for 2.5km to get to the hostel. This old guy at the reception get our room ready instantly while we wait at the common area and have breakfast - pancakes, bread. We were initially unimpressed with this place. Small room, no private bathroom as advertised. We were moved to a better room on next nights. Airconditioning was present but did not work, if it did you paid extra! I was very close to Plaka with all its restaurants and shops. Plus it was a short walk to the entrance for the...

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
