Our family spent 3 days at the Hera Hotel during our first ever trip to Athens, Greece. We chose it because the map and the photos indicated the hotel was in close proximity to the Acropolis - the primary reason for our visit. Not only was the hotel close to the ancient site, but the service, the rooms and the...

The rooms are elegant and I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Staff is helpful and breakfast offers a wide variety of food. Location is ideal for sightseeing. If I get back to Athens, I hope to stay here again.

This hotel was very good because: 1. Location, easy walking distance to Hadrian's Arch, Temple of Zeus, Acropolis, shopping. 2. The rooftop terrace has a great view of the Parthenon 3. @Nielson in the restaurant provided great service and was cracking jokes with us the whole time which made our stay even more fun! After a long day of site...

While on a Aegean cruise, we had the opportunity to spend a few nights in Athens before and after our cruise. The cruise line uses this property for its guests for a a good reason. This property is attractive, clean, big rooms and a great breakfast each morning. The best part is its location. Of being close to the Acropolis,...

Great hotel close to the Acropolis. We had one day in Athens and this was the perfect location for us. The hotel arranged an airport pickup for us. We had a late dinner upon arrival at the rooftop restaurant with a great view. In the morning, we walking two blocks and had a great breakfast outside at a café, then...

Great, attractive little hotel for a very reasonable price. Fabulous location.. minutes from the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. Helpful front desk staff, nice rooftop bar and restaurant with great views of the Acropolis and sliding glass panels for inclement weather. Nice breakfast in attractive atrium. Our room was small , but attractive with nice bathroom (135 euros/night). I recommend this...

The staff at the hotel were very helpful with recommendations and directions. The location was convenient to all of the archeological sites. The breakfast was so so I would recommend getting breakfast with better quality and cost somewhere else.

We had a perfect stay here. The location is ideal and the amenities are completely adequate - the rooms are not huge but there is more than enough room to meet your needs. The breakfast was very good as well!

We stayed 3 nights at the Hera Hotel at the outset of our long planned family vacation in Greece. The hotel staff is very friendly, the hotel is clean and the hotel is situated an easy 5 minute walk to the Acropolis Museum, a 10 minute walk to one of the entrances to the Acropolis and to the Plaka. The...

Easy walking distance to Acropolis museum and lots of local restaurants make this an ideal base for seeing Athens. We walked to nearly everything. Most rooms include a balcony. We would happily stay there again.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
