We stayed here as part of a Viking Cruise extension. Our room was spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious. We even sampled several entrees for dinner and found them above expectations for a hotel restaurant. I would give it the highest rating if it were located within walking distance to the tourist attractions. That being said, it was only an $8E taxi trip.
Really clean, big rooms. We stayed in 2 huge inter-connecting rooms, which was perfect for our family of 4 adults and had a lovely big relaxing area to all relax and spend time together. Excellent house keeping staff and thank you to Gianina for tending to our rooms daily. Staff were so helpful when we accidentally locked ourselves out! Room service and restaurant food was delicious , although menu bit limited and not many veggie options but view of Acropolis from Premiere was absolutely amazing. Menu on website seems to suggest a wider range than was actually available at the restaurant eg website shows tasting menus and veggie menus so would recommend that is removed if no longer up to date. Hotel is about 20-25 minute walk to many of the main sights along a main road, one of the road crossings is a little difficult but there are lots of nearby cafes to grab drinks or snacks and the walk into Plaka and the sights is very easy. Hotel is really big, staff including bell boys, reception staff and room service and restaurant staff are so helpful and friendly and we loved it as a base for our first visit to Athens. Would very happily stay here again when I visit again in the future and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Athens.…
This is not by any standard an IC hotel. There are better holiday Inn properties. I do not understand how IHG have kept this hotel branded as an IC. It is in desperate need of a refurb. The bath and showers are straight out of the 70s. It is actually difficult to shower because the bath narrows to such a degree it’s hard to stand. Yes it is one of those bath type shower systems. No walk in. The breakfast room is like a canteen. Not a 5 star hotel breakfast room. Dreadful, loud and low class. The only positive is that the beds are comfortable. To compound all this there was zero elite status recognition. I have diamond elite and ambassador with IHG and there was not even a mention of it or any advantages. I even had to ask for the complementary breakfast after being offered it for a charge. A dreadful stay. This is not by any means a luxury hotel. There are far better options so I suggest go there.…
they charge your credit card after you check out for parking which they have told you it’s free for the residents…€20 plus per day….. after you check out and after they give you release a message comes that you have been charged from the hotel….
I was staying in the hotel as part of a Viking Cruise extension (=an organized trip at the end of a cruise). The hotel was comfortable, my room spacious and clean, and all the basics fine. The breakfast buffet was to die for! Really a bountiful feast including some specifically Greek options (cheeses, pastries). I was quite happy when I was well, but when I became ill toward the end of my stay and had to extend my stay and quarantine, I was bowled over by the kindness of everyone at the hotel. The manager arranged a reasonable rate for the extra nights and was flexible about how long my stay would be; housekeeping was thoughtful about checking on my needs. Best of all, the amazing women in charge of room service sent up wonderful breakfasts for me (as part of the 'included buffet') that were my main meal most days since my appetite was light. Being on my own and ill and far from home, I was extremely grateful for being treated with such consideration (instead of being treated as an inconvenience, as I might have been elsewhere). …
We stayed here on points (summer prices 2022 in Athens were outrageous) and were upgraded due to IHG's Ambassador program to a King Bed Premium Room, which was, though not totally up to date, especially regarding the bathroom, extremely spacious and comfortable. As we hadn't booked breakfast, upon check-in we were offered Club Lounge access for a mere 34 EUR per day and couple. Access to the top floor lounge came with a very extensive breakfast buffet, afternoon tea and evening snacks as well as 24 hours soft drinks and beer. The lounge, especially the outside terrace offered unbelievable views over Athens and towards the Acropolis. The hotel is not in the very city center and the surroundings are not particularly attractive. Having stayed here around 2003 the connection to city center has hugely improved because of a new tramline between Syntagma Square and the coastline, which is stopping just two blocks away from the hotel. Would return in a heartbeat.…
You have to pay to use the spa? Really? I really cannot understand how hotels advertise spa facilities and then expect guests to pay additional charges to actually use the spa facilities. In addition, the pool is closed during the winter, and no reduction in room rates is applied. While the hotel in general is acceptable, the lack of complimentary bottles of water is a disappointment. Don't bother trying to use the car rental place suggested by the concierge, they will take your booking and then turn up with a smaller car, in the hope that you will just accept it.
Truly enjoyed the facility and the professionalism. Nice room. Excellent breakfast. Near enough to main sights without being in the middle of all the noise. Gave us early check in which was a real plus. Go to the roof for a drink ! Amazing view. Would definitely recommend.
A five minute walk from Kasomouli tram stop, the Athenaeum is centrally located and within walking distance to most of Athens’ attractions. Check in was smooth, although the hotel seems to cater to a large number of groups, which resulted in over 30 minutes of waiting in line when it came to checking out, which I would consider unacceptable. Our room was clean and in a good condition although it’s clear it could do with some modernisation/refurbishment. It was very spacious, with a big and comfortable bed. The new Byredo amenities were slowly making an appearance although there were still some Agraria products provided too. The hotel has a pool which gets extremely busy. It is definitely a luxury having access to a pool in central Athens, but I did find the loungers to be extremely uncomfortable and the staff working by the pool were constantly rushed off their feet. Breakfast was nice, but service a little disappointing. It took a long time for someone to come and ask if we wanted hot drinks after sitting at a table. The buffet, however, was very good with many great food options, both hot and cold, ranging from local Greek cuisine to the standard international fare. We had a good experience at the Athenaeum, although it’s a little way off the high standard I would expect from a city Intercontinental. I would certainly consider returning.…
A 2 night stay was most enjoyable. Dinner was just right with lamb shank and couscous cooked to perfection. Breakfast again was just right and plentiful. Rooms are spacious and ideal for work / great internet connectivity. A return will be certainly on the cards.
