My wife and I stayed here at the end of our trip. The location, near the Acropolis Museum, is excellent! It was easy to walk anywhere in the old town from here. The rooms were clean and modern and comfortable, and we even had a great view of the Acropolis from our window/balcony. The staff was great, and breakfasts were...

I haven't stayed here yet, but will definitely write a review after we get back. I wanted to let people know about their amazing help with pre-arrival stuff. We asked for directions from the metro station via email, and within 24 hours had a response in perfect English. Additionally, they let me know about the transfer they have which only...

I stayed at this hotel with a group of 6 friends for 5 nights during the 2013 Athens Classic Marathon. The location is excellent, close to metro and tram lines. Within 100m of the new Acropolis museum, Temple of Zues and other attractions. One caution on the location, the map on the hotel's website shows the correct location of the...

My wife and I stayed at Athens Gate one night after finishing our cruise in Athens. This was the best hotel we stayed in on our Europe Trip. We arrived too early to check in, but they happily held our luggage while we went sightseeing for the day. It is a very modern and chic hotel, and very clean, which...

Just back from a 4 day stay at this lovely hotel. Great position, excellent quality food and very helpful staff. We were in room 707 - an executive room - all of which are on the floor below the roof-top restaurant. You have to be prepared there is some noise from scraping chairs - but this was less so than...

To see the sights of Athens, you cannot beat the location of this hotel. Everything is walkable, and the on off bus stop is very close. Breakfasts were good and the view from the rooftop is amazing. Had to pay daily for WIFI in the room which was not ideal. Hotel staff were very helpful with directions and dinner reservations....

What a beautiful place to stay in Athens! The room was excellent as was the room and reception. The team was helpful and extremely professional throughout our whole stay. The provided breakfast was delicious and it was extremely convenient and satisfying to be so close to everything in terms of the best sightseeing. A beautiful room, a beautiful view, would...

My room, with balcony, was a bit larger than the European average, sleek, clean and modern. The price was very reasonable. My balcony OVERLOOKED THE TEMPLE OF ZEUS. From the rooftop restaurant and bar (which was always open for photographers) had a perfect view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. The hotel is within four blocks of the New Acropolis...

It was literally split the difference between the Parthenon and the Temple of Zeus and you could see both for the rooftop breakfast. It also was only a 10 minute walk from Plaka which had plenty of shopping and restaurants and less than 10 minute walk from the New Museum which made for an amazing morning jog.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
