We stayed 3 nights at the Plaka hotel before boarding our cruise ship. We loved the location, so close to many museums and historical attractions. All info given to us by front desk was helpful. Room was lovely with a small balcony. Gorgeous rooftop terrace with stunning views of Acropolis. I would highly recommend.

We chose this hotel following Rick Steve's advice, and we are glad we did. Its location is perfect, close to the major sites, within walking distance. It's clean and basic, but the rooms are bigger than what we had to put up in Paris for more money. The staff is wonderful. Last night we went up to the hotel's roof...

Have just spent two nights in Athens staying at the Plaka Hotel and couldn't have been happier. The hotel is central to all the good stuff. We walked everywhere. The rooftop bar has 360° degree views, the Acropolis being the stand-out. The hotel has had a refurb in recent times and all is clean and fresh. It boasts possibly the...

We had the good fortune to stay at this lovely hotel with a perfect location in Plaka in our two days in Athens on the way to the Cyclades. Our room was small but very comfortable with a good bed and air conditioner that was quiet and functional. Shower was excellent and roomy. But the breakfast choices were amazing -...

The Plaka Hotel staff greeted us with warmth. We arrived earlier than expected but they kindly kept watch over our bags and assured they would have our room ready in a half hour. We finished our 11 nights in Greece with 3 nights at Plaka Hotel chosen with help from the TA community. We had left the peaceful island of Naxos a few hours earlier (stayed at the lovely Faros Studios Apartments) which had been so relaxing so the hustle and bustle of Athens was quite a contrast. After an eventful taxi ride...

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
