Excellently located, welcoming family run pensao and restaurant. Easy to find location just off Avenida dos Combatentes de Grande Guerra (the street straight out of the train station running down to the Rio Lima estuary). Situated a couple of steps to Praca da Republica but quiet. Single room was small but very comfortable with a bit of a view of...

We stayed here six nights because we loved this family run little hotel and restaurant. It was so reasonable that we two friends got two adjoining rooms on the 3rd floor with amazing views of the church and hotel on the hill. Totally quiet. Beautiful fresh ironed sheets every day. Elena and her dad run the place but 94 year...

We arrived on the day when the country was celebrating their independence and even thought their restaurant was not open, Helena, the owner, treated us like royalty. She went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were comfortable as well as providing us with meal alternatives which were perfect!! Thank you Helena you are the hostess...

Helena and her family will make you feel at home at their Pensao. After a long day walking the Camino de Santiago, it was welcoming to just lay on the cool floor and play with their children and big chocolate labrador This hotel is located right in middle of the old city center with old world classic wood and stone...

This is a quaint family run establishment. The service and hospitality are wonderful. We stayed one night during our Camino. When we arrive our suitcases had been dropped off and already waiting for us in our room. We had a bottle of wine that needed chilling and our hostess took it and chilled it and brought it back for us...

Stayed at this Pensao whilst cycling the Camino Portuguese. The family who own this place made us feel very at home. The rooms are comfortable and recently refurbished (at least ours was!) and had a terrace we could make use of. They offered a secure place for our bikes which was very important. We even had supper at their restaurant...

The family is very friendly. We loved the atmosphere and the owner(s) really go the distance to make sure you have a nice stay. We were upgraded to a room with a terrace because we stayed more than one night. They even moved our luggage because we were going out for a daytrip. Since it is an old house, expect...

We stayed here one night only as we were doing the Camino de Santiago but we would have loved to stay longer. Family run hotel and we couldn't have received a better welcome after a long day. Restaurant was closed this night but we were taken to a restaurant nearby which was wonderful. I highly recommend this hotel for hospitality...

Fantastic little family run place. Right in the heart of the old town. Friendly and efficient staff. The rooms are small but comfortable. Good sized en suite. Great restaurant with fine selection of regional wines.

It's a family run business - lodging and restaurant. The family members are friendly and helpful. Though we are unable to converse in Portuguese but we managed to get our food and the food is fantastic! Rooms may be small but it's good enough for us. We have decided to extend another night here due to the warmth hospitality of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"O Laranjeira" Pensao Restaurante is uniquely situated in Viana do Castelo historical centre close by the emblematical Praca da Republica. This vintage building has a well-referenced traditional kitchen restaurant and 7 theme rooms. The 3rdLaranjeira generation decided to refresh the image of the Pensao - the oldest commercial building in Viana - by telling their family story, reminiscing Viana's traditions and folklore. We wanted our rooms to be an unforgettable experience to our guests and created a cosy environment and still maintaining its historical legacy. Each room has a different theme: "Traje a Vianesa", "Eiffel", "Filigrana", "Lethes", "Santa Luzia", "Tapetes" (flowers street decoration), "Traje a Vianesa" (traditional costume) e "Vinho Verde". ... more   less
