Located in the heart of the Ribeira, a World Heritage Site, with a window on the Douro River, in a historic building dating back to the seventeenth century, is the Porto River! Has 19 apartments, which bring together history and comfort in a fusion of authenticity and modernity. Acess by car is limited. We don’t have our own car park, our suggestion is to arrive “Cais da Ribeira ( Ribeira Quay)” between 06.30AM and 11AM so you can park very close to the hotel and store your luggage with us, also we can give you the instructions for the car park.

I stayed in room 2.2 with a river front view and 4 doors/windows that opened up to a small balcony that was too small to step out on. The room was large and perfect for feeling the vibe and listening to the street singers every day/night. If you want peace and quiet then don't take a river front room at any of the hotels along the river in this area. You will hear the restaurants, and tourists, and street vendors outside until 11 pm. I personally enjoyed feeling part of the excitement below while enjoying a glass of wine from my room.

I can't say enough good things about the staff at the front desk, in the restaurant, and room maintenance who daily cleaned my room and kept the mini bar full. My only suggestion is to wipe down the tables after each customer leaves the restaurant versus swiping the crumbs onto the floor. I sat at the same table the next day and the same stains were on the table top.

The rate of 213 Euros per night included breakfast in the restaurant. There was a good selection of breakfast items to choose from each morning. The location is excellent within walking distance of many sights, restaurants, wine cellars, and the subway. Taxis and other service vehicles are allowed to drive in the pedestrian walkway and drop you off within 50 feet of the Porto River door. Regular cars are not allowed in the pedestrian walkway along the Douro river.

When I return to Porto, I will definitely stay at Porto River! Thank-you for a memorable and enjoyable stay!

The Porto River is housed in a beautiful old building and has beautiful spaces and rooms with wonderful river views. We were on the top floor away from the noise of the waterfront and we did not find the music intrusive.

The rooms are poorly equipped: there are no clothes hooks, so coats etc were on the floor, very limited clothes storage, no shower caddy so everything in the shower is on the floor. A kitchen is included but it is absolutely useless as there are no tea cloths, no tea towels, no pans or implements and no milk and we had to ask for tea bags.
The bed was comfortable.

The public spaces were tasteful especially the dining room which has a river facing terrace. The breakfasts were very ordinary and understaffed and so service was slow. Reception staff were efficient and helpful.

We had a wonderful stay at the Porto River Aparthotel for five nights in September. The location is perfect for first time visitors to Porto with one of the best views on the Ribeira. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment with river view and balcony – definitely recommended for the view. The room comes with shutters that can be closed over the windows at night to block sound coming from the Ribeira below. We also had the hotel breakfast during our stay served with a view of the Douro River. Management responded promptly to a small maintenance issue which was fixed the same day. They also responded promptly to all email enquiries I had before our trip. Visiting the Port Wine Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia is easily accessible over the bottom level of the bridge or by water taxi nearby. It is a short walk uphill to the São Bento train and metro stations. There is also a funicular which can get you to the top of the Dom Luis bridge as an alternative to the stairs. Note the main entrance is secluded and accessed through the arch off Praca da Ribeira or the arch at the restaurant (Chez Lapin). Overall the room was comfortable and roomy that made for an enjoyable stay.

We rented 2 rooms for our 4 family members. Nuria and the other woman at the front desk were excellent. Very helpful and kind. The rooms are decent but spartan. As an example, there is no place in the shower to put a bottle of shampoo or soap. We later found out the small plastic stool outside the shower should be brought into the shower. The towels were worn and frayed. The bed was comfortable.

We tried to communicate our major concerns to the man at reception this morning when we checked out and he did not seem to care at all. Here are the 3 major issues with this hotel:

1) The AC in our room was not working when we arrived. Our room was about 85-90F. After multiple attempts to fix it, we were left with a situation where we had to call the front desk every time we wanted to raise or lower the temperature. This is annoying and unacceptable.

2) The wifi in the hotel is horrible. It didn’t work at all most of the first day. They supposedly went out and bought a new router, so we had access in the lower floors by the lobby, but not in our room. We called and asked for help at least 10 times during our stay. It was never fixed.

3) The breakfast staff is horribly slow and often confused. I ordered 3 scrambled eggs and after waiting almost 30 minutes with maybe 4 other people in the restaurant, I received 3 separate dishes with 1 egg each. This morning before we checked out, my wife ordered scrambled eggs and after 20 minutes, they still hadn’t arrived so we had to leave without them. Frying or scrambling an egg takes about 2 minutes. For 2 eggs, it’s still 2 minutes unless you cook them one at a time? Something is wrong with the team there.

On a positive note, the bed was comfortable and room generally clean.
We hated the location, it's very noisy and very busy. Upon arrival, there were hundreds of people literally right outside the hotel drinking heavily. There's a guy that sings until late in the night every night right outside the hotel, bad renditions of Jim Morrison songs. On another night a big soccer game was won and horns were honking and people screaming outside the hotel until 3:00AM. The internet connection was a huge problem, we were in the adjacent building and clearly they need a booster. We called on numerous occasions to try and get the modem reset, but I don't think it ever helped. While the room itself was acceptable, there was a terrible mildew/mold smell coming from the bathroom. The bathroom has a hardwood floor, and you could see black mold growing in the wood along the wall and on the tile to the right of the toilet next to the shower. The smell was a bit over-powering at times. Breakfast was just OK, oddly while they have a toaster in your room, you have to request your bread toasted every time in the breakfast room, not sure why they don't just put a toaster out. Often the items on the table had run low and they were slow to refill, you had to ask. They offer some hot breakfast items, but no one ever asks nor do they provide a menu of options, it seems if they don't offer or ask, it means less work for them. They have a place to dine and get a glass of wine during the day, but service is very slow and the options available are limited. We stayed here five nights, and not once did anyone ever act as if they had seen you before. Lastly, in all the other hotels we stayed in during our Portugal trip communication was never an issue and English was well understood, I can't say the same here. I cannot recommend this hotel and I would not stay here again.

Really excellent "aparthotel" right on the river. It really is just a hotel as they have a front desk and staff, but it seems most of the rooms have kitchenettes so the rooms are more spacious than a typical hotel. Nicely decorated and furnished, really classy and stylish design and fixtures.

Even though the view rooms are RIGHT on the water/promenade, the windows did a great job keeping out noise. Would highly recommend springing for the view rooms as they were just so nice to look out on the river.

The breakfast is quite good, it was included in our room rate one night but not the other. Mostly contintental but they mean it when they offer to make any kind of eggs or espresso to order. A very nice river view for breakfast, so much so that other tourists are trying to eat there for breakfast but the hotel turns them away as they are focused on serving guests.

Yes, you can only really access the hotel on foot to the old/winding/steep nature of the streets. It's quite a circus down below but again, we didn't hear much noise. We had to book two different rooms because the same room wasn't available both nights and the staff was very helpful in moving our luggage.

Would definitely recommend!

Right on the river, lovely views from our room, spacious, comfortable, clean etc etc. Not sure I would want to stay anywhere else if I can e back. Room 1-3 has a super king bed, walk in shower suitable for people with disabilities as it has a shower seat etc and a lounge/dinner/kitchen area with windows overlooking the river.

Great hotel, friendly and obliging staff – even offered to keep our luggage for a day on return from 5 day cruise even though we were not staying there.
Super apartments very well equipped.
Just one issue – not enough storage space (cupboards) in the bedroom and bathroom – just a small table/shelf and a 1-meter wide open rack with hangers.

Smallest wrongly designed hotel room we have ever stayed in.
Named the river hotel, but zero view of the river.
Instead it is on a busy high street with constant traffic.
Not at all as in the photos.
Room is tiny, barely can get around the bed.
No space to put cases.
Clothing rack over drinks glasses.
Wine, beer and water in cooler, but only 100ml glasses to drink from and no opener to open bottles.
Offers tea and coffee, but no kettle or coffe cups.
In the bathroom there is no place to put your bathrobe or towel.
The worst is the cristal clear glass sliding fron, it leaves the entire room visible including the toilet.
I would rate this room as no more than 3 stars and certainly not worth €247.
Wifi in the room very weak.
They say they have parking, but not at the hotel.
Not again!

The location is amazing, by the river with all the history, music, restaurants, view. Staff was very helpful with transportation, questions, recommendations, picnic breakfast, printing our boarding passes. The building has fascinating European architecture, old stone work, great views out the windows (when we closed the windows it was quiet enough to sleep even with the restaurants and music which got quiet about 10). There was a small kitchen and room safe. The entrance is handy (but discrete and secure) to all the area attractions and it is a short walk to the Dom Luís I Bridge and the other side of the river.

We were there in summer and used the air conditioner to cool but I’m sure it was also a heater too for the winter. There were two units- one in the bedroom and one in the living area. I’m sure you’ll be warm and cozy. You’ll love this hotel.

You can get a metro from porto airport...you need to buy a zone 4 andante ticket...to either trindade where you can get a bus (900, 906 or 901) to Ribera bus stop (about 120 meters from hotel)...you can use the same andante ticket within the hour...or change at trindade station for Sao Bento metro...and walk downhill via rua da flores (takes about 7 minutes). There is a bus from the airport i think but it takes a lot longer. There are taxis at the airport if you want to go large...which will drop off about 20 metres from hotel.
