In one of the most prestigious areas of Porto, the Ribeira historic district you will find the Pestana Vintage Porto, constructed as a group of 18 buildings that have been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Postcards always feature the hotel right in front of the Douro River, which blends in nicely with the other historic buildings in the area. We welcome you with an atmosphere that is at once vintage and contemporary, luxurious and romantic. The RIB BEEF & WINE restaurant is the place for true connoisseurs of great beef and wine. All rooms have Wi-Fi and some feature views of the Douro River, the Wine Cellars of Gaia and the D. Luís Bridge.

This was one of the most enjoyable hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Every person I encountered at the hotel was fabulous. Everyone was so helpful and kind. The breakfast was hands-down the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. So many options! My friend and I ate at the restaurant one evening, and I’m so glad we did. Everything was delicious. I wish we would have had more time so I could enjoy the spa services. Have I mentioned the location yet? This hotel is situated at the most perfect spot in Porto. Easy access to nearly everything, and the view is breathtaking!

This hotel's location is right by the river, and the bridge to Gaia, or a river cruise, or a number of cafes is literally steps out from the lobby. For a short stay, that worked well - I can imagine that for more than a couple of days one might get tired of the street noise and walking traffic. The desk staff were generally very helpful - and very busy! An extra staff member would have increased the service levels for guests. Our room was comfortably appointed with a spacious bathroom and good air conditioning. The buffet breakfast was good but again, more staff would have brought the service levels up to the price range expectations. Overall, a comfortable, upscale hotel experience with a few service flaws in our opinion.

This hotel is placed in a classic location on the river in Porto which makes it great place to walk from or just view the scenery.
Staff were very helpful. Breakfasts presents an excellent choice of food.
One gripe, if you want a view of the river you will pay a hefty premium and the rooms without the view look over onto a very tiny street with tall buildings which tends to make the rooms very dark even when the sun is shining.

The hotel is in a great location on the riverfront, and the lobby is charming with cute little nooks on a balcony area overlookng it.

HOWEVER...

We were put in a room that was at the end of a short hallway. The only other thing in the hallway was a housekeeping storage area with a service elevator. The path to our room was often blocked by housekeeping carts and large bags (laundry? linens?) sitting on the floor. Between street noise, noise from ongoing construction in the hotel and the constant wheeling/dragging of supplies in and out of the supply room and the banging of the sliding door all hours of the day, the din was unbearable.

The hotel really doesn't have any business putting a room in that location, and you should definitely ask for a different room if you find yourself in this location.

As for the rooms, sizes vary and this one was one of the smaller ones. The furniture was pretty worn and the carpet none too clean-looking. We asked housekeeping for extra blankets and never got them.

The selection at the breakfast buffet was decent, but there were flies/insects all along the wall of the buffet with the honeycomb, including in the cheese and peanut butter, as well as around the pastry section.

We stayed in a "Double Vintage Grand River View with Balcony" room; the room itself was indeed grand; plenty of space, and fantastic views through the three windows overlooking the Douro river, and Praca Ribeira which is filled with lively restaurants. The manager, Bruno, greeted us with a glass of port (with more waiting in the room!). The room itself was well appointed, with a double-bed, shower/bath & AC, and was very quiet (well soundproofed!) despite the nearby restaurants. The hotel-provided breakfast was good, with a decent selection. The location is excellent; right on the riverfront next to numerous bars and restaurants, the Douro river cruise ships, and the water-taxi to the Gaia Port Warehouse district. It's a short uphill walk or funicular ride to Porto's historic downtown, and anywhere in Porto is a short taxi/uber ride away. The only negatives are that parking in the nearby public lot is expensive if you have a car, and there is a short walk from the nearest taxi/uber drop off point, as Placa Riberia is pedestrianized. I'd certainly stay here again on a future trip to Porto.

Stayed for two nights in Vintage Grand View room. Jaw dropping views of Douro and Dom Luís I Bridge. Just suck it up and book this room. It's worth every penny and you will not be sorry. On Saturday afternoon, we opened all the windows and heard sounds from a great guitarist/singer floating up to our room. One of those classic moments. Location: Excellent. Staff: Excellent. Maria was especially helpful, giving us an introductory tour of hotel, explaining its rich history. Rate included breakfast, which was very nice. Recommend you ask for a cappuccino instead of their regular coffee. NB: Hotel had completely flooded a day before we arrived due to storm "Elsa" yet they were open for business as per normal. If staff hadn't mentioned it, we'd never have known ground floor was under water a mere 24 hours beforehand. We could not try their steak house restaurant as it was still closed due to flooding. One quibble: For these prices, can we not get complimentary bottled water every day? EU3 for a replacement bottle plus EU5 delivery fee? Ridiculous. Go to small bodega just up the street instead. I bought 2 liter bottle for EU0.50.

Pestana Vintage was a great choice. Very nice hotel in a great location. Their instructions on where to park was so (very) helpful, as the parking lot (underground) is a short walk to the hotel, which cost us 26 euros for 16 hours. Breakfast was my favorite during our trip. And the glass bathroom was unique and a talking point.

Just boarding a hotel ship for four nights on the river Douro, we spent one night at this hotel.
Plus points!
The reception staff (Cristina) were very friendly and effficient.
The bedroom was large and comfortable with three French windows leading out to a small balcony and a fantastic 180 degrees view of the river Douro immediately below us.
Negative points!
The restaurant which we were very much looking forward to was closed. We were told due to COVID. However it was the only closed restaurant we came across in the vicinity.
The breakfast was absolutely dismal and pathetic. Hardly any choice or selection. (No cereals, fresh fruit, bacon or additions to the small portion of scrambled eggs etc) and a disgrace for a 5 star hotel charging over €360 per night.
Unfortunately, I shall not recommend this hotel to my friends.

The hotel is as charming as you can get. Located at river side, on the old part of the city, it has amazing views. Make sure you choose a room with river view - totally worth it if you can get it with a good deal. Be mindful that after 11am private cards cannot come to the hotel so you need to carry your bags down the road. The facade remains intact and gives it a very nice charm. The hotel entrance is located in a very busy area with cafes, restaurants and a lot of people moving around - it’s not a quiet zone. Even with river view you can have peaceful sleep as the double glazed windows are enough to keep the noise out. The staff is super nice and always make sure to go the extra mile to help you out. The only downside and that’s why I don’t give it 5* is the breakfast, which is very limited for a 5* hotel. Whistle I understand current COVID restrictions the choices are very limited and it can get quite crowned, which makes you have to wait sometimes for 20 minutes for your table.

We spent 3 nights at the Pestana Vintage Porto. The location is unbeatable. We booked a room with river view, which I recommend. It's lovely to look out the window and watch traffic on the river. At night it's quiet and beautiful. From this location you can walk everywhere, to the port wine lodges across the river as well as to the city. (trainstation with beautiful tiles, Stock exchange, and everything else.) the walk is a steep uphill, but in 15 minutes you get just about anywhere.
The breakfast was wonderful and had a great egg station. The coffee was not very good however, it tasted like Nescafe. But to make up for it our room had a Nespresso machine.
Driving up to the reception is difficult. You have to drive into a pedestrian zone. But you just have to follow taxis or delivery vehicles if unsure how to get right to the entrance. Parking is in a facility a 2 minute walk away, and costs about 27 Euros per day.
Overall I would stay here again anytime. The few shortcomings are just details in an overall wonderful experience.
We never had to show vaccination status, but th's because with Portugal doing so well overall, they stopped checking. However in the hotel all staff wear masks, and unless eating, guests also do.
