We stayed in a room just off reception in the palace for 3 nights. When we arrived (lete) the reception staff was helpful & friendly and moved us from the room we were supposed to be in (upstairs in the castle) to one in the ground floor as we explained that we couldn't really do stairs. All the staff is friendly and helpful, cleaning is done every day and there's an electric kettle in the room with teas and coffees for one to use (particularly helpful for a caffeine addict like me). The beds are very comfy, big and linens r very soft and the room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable (it was meant for 3 people but we were only 2) and very, very clean. Breakfast was a treat every morning in a beautifully decorated room upstairs (those stairs were the only not so positive thing in it all, but were doable with some effort). Now Camilla. Camilla is the resident black&&white tabby cat and she was an absolute sweetheart - albeit probably in it for the treats I gave her every night! Unsure if she usually does this with others or if she sensed I was missing my own kitty, but every night I would fall asleep cuddling with her and listening to her soft purrs. She usually would wake us (aka me) round 5am to go out of the room but I didnt mind in the least. I bought her cat treats and would show her my appreciation of her by giving her some every night before bed. I want to go back next year, hopefully stay in the same room as we did. :)…
Clean large room air condition was more than adequate(could be COLD if you desired). Reception was very helpful when we needed to check about DOURO VALLEY Trip we had booked elsewhere. DO IT! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! Close Proximity(about 400m) to Marquez Station Metro. USB Connection, coffee & tea in room but NO SAFE only safety deposit @ Reception. Free Breakfast was OK, fresh baked pastries, delicious breads, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs & bacon but not warm enough(could have borrowed a pan to warm more, staff friendly), fresh tomatoes, cold meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, juices, coffee, yogurt, cereals. Staff also helpful finding a Continente(Supermarket in Via Caterina/MALL) about 15min walk down Rua de Santa Catarina. JUST WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR a SALE 33%, 50%, 75% OFF Douro Valley Ports, Wines & MANY MORE etc. SO we bought groceries & Wine went back to our Room plugged in my Music USB that I just happened to have, ROMANCE started ALL OVER AGAIN! FYI watch out for PICKPOCKETS lines in and out of TRINDADE Metro, my Review of Thai Beach Club Restaurant Vilamoura gives you some insight.…
The place looks like a castle. It is as advertised. Super cool interior especially in the royal suite. A truly one of a kind experience. However, two things would prevent me from returning if I am back in Porto. 1) The breakfast is mediocre. I had breakfast at multiple places on my 10 day trip through Portugal, and this one just felt like they weren't trying. Additionally I showed up 15 minutes before the end of breakfast and I saw staff taking food for themselves even though I, a guest, had not even had the opportunity to eat. 2) I had a deep scratch on my car from another guest in the parking lot. I paid for 2 nights of parking. This is not FREE parking. They have cameras that are literally looking at my car at all hours. They could not help me find the culprit and refused to take any responsibility. They wouldn't even refund the two nights of parking. They said the videos are only live feed so too bad. And if it happened at night when no one is watching that closely, they wouldn't have even seen it. A better hotel would have done a lot more about the situation than this one. Truly disappointed.…
Wonderful couple of nights spent in Porto's best kept secret Palace. Beautiful room & view, great bathroom. Excellent breakfast in a room decorated with antiques & a huge chandelier. Immaculately clean throughout. Garden area stunning. Great value & very helpful staff. Will be back…
Charming place-former estate from 1887. Gorgeous tile work, formal gardens and even a chapel on site. Quiet, gated & attentive to all requests. Good home base to explore Porto. Evening “ladies” were out on a late return to hotel but fairly quiet during the day.
