What a gem of a place to stay in Porto! We booked the Douro studio on the top floor, and like the rest of this beautifully restored family house, the interior is so tastefully done. We particularly liked the shower room with views looking beyond the balcony (there is a modesty screen don’t worry!) The garden is gorgeous and such...

Lovingly restored into a harmonious blend of the ancient and modern, with a great use of light, and stone and clean lines, this was/is the friendly owner's historical family home. we can't speak with authority about the other rooms, but we thoroughly enjoyed the clean, comfortable well-equipped second floor Douro Room, with its lengthy balcony (from which the amazing Ponte...

An excellent stay! We chose the Cristal Room with a view onto a pretty garden. It was just lovely! The building is a marvellous renovation/restoration. Loved the shower in the 'cave'. Alvaro met us and gave us lots of useful information for our stay. The location was perfect for exploring the old city. The kitchenette was very useful and had...

I stayed at these apartments for 5 nights with my wife. The rooms are spacious and quiet, and close enough to walk every where in Porto. There is also car parking available in the street. I would definitely stay here again.

This house is everything we wanted. We stayed here for two nights during a train journey across Portugal. It's situated high on the hill just above the main bridge going across the river, right beside a castle wall. It's close to everything you might wish to see in the historic part of town, but has a lovely quiet feel as...

This is a special spot - an old family home that has been lovingly restored as a guesthouse. Alvaro is a fantastic host who went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable; answering emails promptly and offering detailed directions when we needed them. He even offered to drive me to the hospital when I hurt my foot. It's often...

Casa dos Guindais was excellent from our arrival to our departure. Alvaro was so helpful in getting us acquainted with Porto and gave excellent dinner recommendations as well. He was extremely friendly and the house itself is so beautiful. A great location adds to the charm of this wonderful restored family home. Alvaro also leaves each room with a tasting...

Alvaro warmly welcomed us at his guesthouse and gave us a tour of the wonderfully restored house that has been in his wife's family for generations. He also provided us with his list of recommended restaurants and must see sights in Porto which helped us plan our visit. His recommendations were all spot on! We stayed in the 2nd floor...

Dear Debbie and Benjamin Thank you for your feedback! we are happy to know that all went well and that you liked our city and house. We trust that guests can move the garden chairs under a tree shade, to avoid having the unbrellas marks , risking to puncture a water irrigation line...the choice on the cane chairs, we agree ,not...

We've just returned from Porto where we stayed 5 days exploring the city. Without hesitation, we would thoroughly recommend Casa dos Guindais for its comfort, cleanliness, warm welcome and centrally located position in the city. If we return one day, there's only one place I would want to stay!

Casa dos Guindais is definitely one of the best places I've stayed abroad so far. The owner, Alvaro, is extremely helpful in every sense. The house itself is beautiful, converted from an old ruin and turned into an architectural beauty. You can see how much effort has been invested in this place. Extremely recommended.
