The hotel and the room were clean and comfortable. The room size was great for just one person, would have been a little tight for 2 people with luggage. The location was perfect though. And the staff were friendly and helpful. I was very appreciative of the room service option after a very long flight and lack of sleep. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here as part of a pre river cruise package on the Douro. It is exceptionally well located and the staff very friendly and helpful without exception. We upgraded to a deluxe review view suite, although the balconies were small (one each side), the views were breathtaking and well worth the relatively small additional cost.
Breakfast was very good, we went at peak time, but we’re still seated almost immediately and had a full and excellent range from the buffet.
Only disappointment was that the restaurant hasn’t reopened yet, however there is an excellent range of restaurants in walking distance and the staff happy to highlight a few on a local area map for you.

Carris Porto Ribeira. As I read the reviews and looked at pictures, I was wondering if I had made the right decision to book our first stay in this hotel in Porto. I’m glad to say that I was very happy with this choice. We didn’t reserve our stay with breakfast included so I can’t say whether or not I regret that decision. Coming from Lisbon previous to this stay in Porto we did miss the convenience of having breakfast in the hotel. The room was nice with a view of the front street. I love the architecture in Porto and really enjoyed this city actually much more than Lisbon. The location of the hotel is excellent. Right around the corner is the Douro River and the infamous bridge taking you over to the Gaia side. When we took the Model T tour around the city, our guide told us to skip the restaurants that sit on the Porto side next to the river, mostly because its a tourist thing, prices are more, which if you have any sort of travel experience, I think you’ll come to that conclusion the moment you see how things are setup there. We never ate at the restaurants, but if you dont mind paying a little extra for that experience, it looks like it’ll be fun especially when you include the street musicians performing there.

As for more about the hotel, again, it was very comfortable. Staff is nice to a certain degree. I can’t say they go out of their way. They seem sort of reserved but in a positive way unlike the previous hotel we stayed at in Lisbon where we were always greeted with a very loud yet warm, “Bom dia!!” It’s a nice feeling to experience a place that welcomes you every time they see you. The only slight moment that was a little off putting was the bartender at Carris who seemed to have a problem with us asking for ice to take to our room. Once he finally figured out we meant no harm in asking for ice and gave us an ice bucket to carry the ice in, we quickly returned the bucket to him for fear that he might think we’d take it home as a souvenir from Porto. 🤣😂 But alas, that was one moment. Porto is such a beautiful city filled with so many great things to see and do. We really enjoyed it and as each day came to an end after our sightseeing and walking around or my many trips to the nearby empanada place called Malvon, it was nice to come back to our room at Carris Porto Ribeira. Shoutout also to Curb burgers for their amazing cheese burgers. Highly recommended to anyone reading this.. 😁 Because of the constant rain, i did have to take advantage of Uber eats more so than I normally would but all in all a very comfortable stay at Carris Porto Ribeira.

This hotel is excellently located for the river, the hotel is smart and nicely furnished. The room we had was however very small - with literally no flat surface other than tiny bedside tables and the space around the bed was very tight. Things were so tight that we had to move the tea/ coffee tray to the bathroom. The bathroom was nice and there was a very small wardrobe.

The situation due to Covid 19 made things exceptionally difficult for everyone in the city, the bar and restaurant were closed though we were able to get room service ( though had to eat it in the lobby as there was nowhere we could place the dishes in the room).

So in summary - great location but perhaps pay for a better room than the basic one. I hope things get back to normal soon - Porto is a beautiful city.

This hotel is in a great location, just a couple of minutes from the river Douro, where there are an abundance of bars and restaurants. Our suite (a large double with a sofa) was on the fifth floor with a lovely terrace overlooking the river, which was well used as the weather warm, a bonus for March. Due to the Coronavirus there was no housekeeping and the bar was shut, but it didn't impact us as we were staying just for the weekend. The staff were friendly and helpful. I'd be happy to stay here again.

The position of this hotel is excellent- really convenient for the main square by the river and also accessible for the newer bits of the town. The hotel is generally very smart and the renovation of the old buildings has been done with attention to the original features; some lovely exposed stone walls for example. The bar area is pleasant and we sat here two or three nights for a drink before or after going out to eat. The prices were reasonable too...comparable with bars in the town. Our room was supposed to be a superior one and although it was large and smartly fitted out it was an odd shape with only one small narrow window at one end meaning that the other end where the bed is was very dark and completely lacking in natural light. There were two good sized wardrobe/ cupboards but only one of these had a hanging rail and it only had 6 hangers. There were no drawers anywhere either, despite there being plenty space for stand alone ones in a range of places. There was no dressing table just a large table- again this seemed like an odd use of space. There was a large full length mirror by the door but the poor lighting here meant that the only real place to do make up etc was in the bathroom. The bathroom was a good size and the shower excellent with a large rain shower and a hand held option. However there was no extractor fan meaning that it was a rather steamy affair for the second user! Had a great stay...just some odd design choices that could be easily be remedied.

The discovery of new spaces is always an attraction for me and that is what led me to choose Carris Porto Ribeira.
A very good architectural intervention took advantage of several buildings in Ribeira do Porto to transform it into a hotel full of surprises, in the unevenness, in the discovery of the connection between the new and the old, in the spaces that surprise us and force us to look more closely.
The room was comfortable and well integrated from the bathroom with window to the bedroom.
Very nice view of the Douro from the room
Breakfast, despite the virus situation, always went well, with attentive staff and well served
Emphasize the courage to be open and do everything for our safety

Stayed in Room 333 which is one of the suites with a lovely balcony overlooking the river.

For a suite it’s quite tight but with a double sofa bed it worked for what we needed.

The hotel staff are extremely helpful and pointed us on the right direction a couple of times and the breakfast was decent value at €18pp.

It’s about 25 mins, at a relaxed stroll, from Trindade for connecting to the airport.

The hotel’s location is the only good thing about it. It is centric and close to many touristic points.

HOWEVER, the hotel itself is nothing special. The rooms are very outdated, old furniture…

The SERVICE from the staff (all of them) is extremely poor! People at the front desk are the least proactive in trying to help. They do not give right instructions, do not anticipate the guests needs and do not have a smile on their faces, ever.

Due to their lack of instructions, we ended up parking our car at the public garage next door and paid almost 150€ for 2 and half days… so thank you for that!

If you have questions about any attractions or the city itself, make yourself a favor and walk to minutes to the Tourist Information point down the street… the information at the hotel is not useful.

Breakfast is 20€ and for what is offered, they should charge 10€ at the most! Not worth it at all. Better to go out and eat somewhere else.

Next time, we will stay somewhere else. Hopefully the service will be better…

Apparently there had been a leak in the room (not a new one) and the parquet was swollen because of it. A terrible smell reminiscent of mold. Moreover, the view from the window on the next wall was very unattractive. We got to change rooms but it was smaller. The hotel offered mimosas at breakfast but only for those who arrived early. So those who came later got nothing and couldn't get more, poor service. Otherwise, the breakfast was okay, but not great.

Go to the hotel first park in the bus area out the front of the hotel . They will show you where to park in the public car park across the road you say you are from the hotel and you pay on departure at a reduced rate . Make sure you leave your bags at the hotel first .
