This s a long overdue but heartfelt review of a place of character and grace. The staff could not have been more accommodating: We had difficulty finding our way because the GPS on our rented motorcycle failed us. I can't be sure if it was Yolanda and Rita (and a gentleman whose name I don't remember) who met us in town and accompanied us to the hotel, but we were grateful and touched by how everyone extended themselves. Our downstairs living quarters overlooked a sweet square, breakfast was delicious, and right next door is an adorable cafe with a charming proprietress. Guimaraes is a worthy stop and Casa do Juncal is very special!

We stayed 3 enjoyable nights in the friendly, hospitable Casa do Juncal on our first visit to the fabulous town of Guimaraes. This is a small bed/breakfast hotel with a rear garden which is an oasis of peace in the town centre. A very good breakfast is served by friendly, efficient staff.
Highly recommended!

We stayed there for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The owner and his staff(Barbara) we're genuinely helpful and extremely friendly. The hotel has 6 rooms all beautifully and very tastefully renovated and decorated. It took five years to redesign this old house to a true designer's paradise. Breakfast was made to order and was luxurious and plentiful. We got hotel parking in front of the hotel and wandered torch Guimaraes on foot, never need the car. We had two great dinners out, all walking distance.

The hotel was great, we love the garden and the stuff.
The square, Largo do Juncal, in front of the hotel was poorly frequented, with noisy bad looking young people. Look like a social neighborhood.
We do not recommend the hotel due to the surroundings. We were quite afraid in the night when going back to the hotel. Very bad square in front of the hotel.

Could not find this place, as it does not look like a hotel. It is well hidden behind a door.
Very friendly owner and staff! Renovated clean rooms.
A “ like home” garden and selfservice regarding drinks. Take what you want, make a note and pay when checking out.

I was not aware that we had to walk up a very funny staircase to go to bed....the toilet was downstairs....so not so convinient.
Also, even though we are cat owners and cat lovers, we did not like the smell in the garden. Too many cats come in and use this place as a toilet.

Young people will probably think the rooms are fun!

Wish we had stayed a couple nights in Guimaraes as it really is a magical city. Parking can be a bit hard to find but once you find it you can walk everywhere. Our room was beautiful - a perfect little apartment. The yard was so peaceful to look at but we ran out of time to sit outside.

We just loved our stay here. Fabulous large room with lounge area that looked over the courtyard and bed that was heavenly. Breakfast was fabulous and the service was just amazing. The girls are incredible. Parked our car, carried our luggage - just amazing. Parking is a few minutes away, secure and well priced. The hotel is perfectly located and lovely. There are about 10 cats in the garden so could be a problem if you are an allergy sufferer and I did inadvertently step in some unpleasant dropping but I enjoyed watching them laze around and they disappear as soon as you go into the garden.

This place is beautiful. The staff were EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. Parking is available, but a bit of a challenge. For another visit, I would definitely NOT stay in rooms that have the bedroom upstairs from the bathroom. The stairs going down were scary and dangerous, so my wife stayed on the downstairs couch. A delightful garden in back.

Casa do Juncal is located in the historic centre of Guimaeres, a wonderful location for seeing the sights, with free parking in the nearby square. The guesthouse, historic outside but modern inside, has beautifully furnished spacious rooms, although the lighting was a little dim, with lovely bathrooms and super towels. Breakfast is ordered the day before and delivered when you arrive at the time specified in the lovely breakfast room, all fresh and delicious. The breakfast room has wall to wall windows which look out into the garden, furnished with comfy patio furniture, a lovely place to sit and enjoy a quiet drink before dinner. The staff are friendly, helpful, and attentive. We arrived on a Sunday and our GPS told us to turn right into the street where the guesthouse is located, but an electronic bollard was up, so we couldn't go in. After a bit of going round in circles, we parked the car and walked to the guesthouse to find that there was a speaker near the bollard into which one could speak and say "guests of Casa do Juncal", at which point the bollard would lower and we could enter. If we had known this ahead of time, it would have saved us some pain and time. Perhaps Europeans would know this procedure, but Canadians are unfamiliar with this process. Otherwise, we had a wonderful stay in lovely Guimaeres.

Hi, the parking is outside the street, but it's in a private zone where only people that live there can enter. The owner is really nice and telling him that you have a car he saves a spot for you and you don't have to pay nothing. And well, don't mind about living the car outside, safe zone, safe city, safe country! I hope you enjoy Guimarães and Portugal! Good trip :) Any other questions that I can help, just ask. Vanessa
