Great experience to stay in casa de sezim: historic building, rooms and garden, in combination with luxury simming pool and very friendly and helpfull owners. Unforgettable breakfast on the balcony of the casa, and our special request about gluten free bread was taken into account (which was not always the case in other portuguees 5star hotels). Would certainly recommend this...

Somewhat out of the way from Guimaraes, but once you've got to the place, you find yourself in fine country home surroundings. Do not go there if you are only satisfied by recent state of the art technology in the hotel business, but rush to Case de Sezim if you like staying at a place full of art, antiques and...

Nice very old wine castle/farmhouse which is the ideal place to unwind back in time. You feel like having a room in a museum, historical 12th century building which was a present of Portugals first king. Very quiet night, bathroom a bit old but fully working and super decoration No evening meal as we did not book it, but the...

I almost don't want Casa de Sezim to become better known, but must add a review of this incredible place. In fact, I am writing this from the veranda outside Room #9 (the only one with direct access to the veranda, so you want it if you can get it, especially if traveling with a small child, as we are)...

Livelly peaceful place, the owner makes a great vino verde wine (try the 2013 millesime, it won the silver medal at Lyon wine concours). Lots of attention for guests and excellent breakfast with freshvorange juice. We stayed two nights and loved it !

We stayed at the Casa de Sezim at the beginning and also at the end of a recent 2 week trip to Portugal and it was far and away the best place we experienced. It combines the services of a high quality hotel with the intimacy and local flavor of a B&B. First off, the room was excellent. Very large,...

Casa de Sezim is a true discovery and not to be missed if visiting this region of Portugal or near by in Porto or Guimaraes. As possibly one of only a few locations on the planet that is still owned by the 30th generation of the same family, the history alone makes any visit very worthwhile without mentioning the excellent...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Casa de Sezim became the ancestral home of the present family in 1376. The original vellum documents still exist and record that Maria Mendes Serrazinha gave Casa de Sezim to Afonso Martins a descendant of D. João de Freitas a companion of D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. The document states that Casa de Sezim was given to Afonso Martins in recognition of " As boas graças que dele recebeu e espera receber e por crença que lhe fez", the good works received from him and hope to receive and for his trusting belief. ... more   less
