O 29 MADEIRA HOSTEL is refined with backpackers prices. In the centre of Funchal, in a building constructed in 1937, characteristic of the best traditional architecture, it was totally restored preserving the original moth. Distributed in three floors, it offers comfort in a modern and casual style, inspired in the "wicker work" and the best of Madeira handcrafts. The patio is simply irresistible at the sunset. In 29 MADEIRA HOSTEL you will feel this unique city in your own accommodation. Our inspiration is the traditional Madeira Island and our aim is your well-being.

Close to perfection :) Spent 2,5 months there, really friendly staff, very clean and beautufully designed hostel. No washing machine though, and the kitchen is rather poorly equipped, everything else - perfect. Highly recommend for lonely travellers looking for a place to meet new people.

Beautiful place. Super clean and at a great location in the city. You can easily walk to the busses that take you to the hiking trails or go out for shopping. Loads of cafés and restaurants around the corner. The hosts are super friendly and welcoming. I will come back for sure!

They actually have 2 properties and I stayed in both (the other is only about 200m away). The staff were absolutely wonderful (special thanks to Dahlia and also to Caroline), great welcome and also so helpful. If you choose the rooms on the street side, be aware there there is a fair bit of traffic, even though it is only a small street. The staff were great in moving me to another room without hesitation, another sign of a well-run place. If you have the chance then it is well worth upgrading to the guesthouse part of the hostel. It has been recently renovated and was bright and clean. Location was great too, opposite a madeira wine tasting cellar !! Great hot shower, balcony with a view over the courtyard and cleaners who did a great job each day. I will definitely be returning here. The location is so convenient for the city centre, the staff were so friendly and helpful and the facilities good. Just what you need on holiday. And the fact that both buildings are traditional Madeiran town houses is a bonus too. Highly recommended.

We stayed about 6 days in July 2019. As we arrived there was a very kind welcome. They gave us a lot of information and recommendations all the Time. The staff is very motivated to give you a great experience of Funchal and the island as well. They know the places and can tell you about history and how touristy or expensive/cheap they are. We stayed in an double room. The room was quite small but it was doable with organizing ourselfs. There was about 2 square meters of space besides the bed. There was a mirror and a box for laundry. Access to room and hostel was by card. Sadly there was only one card for two persons, so you need to be careful with forgetting the card in the room as there is no staff at night. The interior of the whole hostel is very cozy and there are enough tables, games (chess, cards and more) available. The kitchen is clean and actually working. Sometimes there is lack of oil or spice. Bathrooms are as clean as the aspect in a hostel where a lot of people are using it. Water quality is alright. The breakfast you get is about one big roll and cheese, ham, salami and one fruit (changes every day). Coffee and juice are available too. We recommend to stay there and hopefully we will came back one day. Greetings Vabena&Clemens

My bf and I slept in the double room, with shared bathroom. All facilities work well and are clean. The staff is super friendly. The location is pretty good, with only a short walk to all tha shops and restaurants. Beach is about 5 min downhill (and a bit logger on the way back). The only downside would be that the hostel itself is a bit noisy as the hallway and the patio are quite echoey.

It is very fast - if you book a taxi it shouldn't take more than about half an hour to get from the airport. If you let the staff know in advance (simply Google the hostels website), what time you are expected to arrive, I am sure they will do their best to accommodate you.
