I stayed at the Quinta San Goncalo in late October 2008 with my mother to celebrate her 90th birthday. I could not have picked a more perfect place and thanks to Tripadvisor. We had rented the junior suite and one of the rooms in the back with a view on the banana plantation. The suite with its balcony and fantastic...

I stayed at Quinta Sao Goncalo for four nights in February 2009 with my mother. We wanted a few days of sunshine and were keen to stay in an independent hotel rather than a large chain or more touristy place. We booked through www.madeira-island.com which was very easy and quick to respond, at a rate of around €80 for a...

We booked a week's holiday after reading the many great reviews posted on Tripadvisor, as did most of our fellow guests and none of us were disappointed! The Quinta is a wonderful old plantation house, set in a large and beautiful garden with a wide variety of scented flowers, even in January. The house was comfortable and tastefully decorated and...

Booked this Quinta on the strength of the reviews on this site and were not disappointed. We stayed in the Junior Suite which was well worth it due to having it's own terrace where you could sit out with fantastic views over Funchal and the sea. Having said that you could also sit out on the main terrace with the...

We stayed here based on Trip Advisor reviews, and were so happy with our choice. The views are outstanding and the grounds very lovely. We have two small children, and they loved running around on the lawns. Rita couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. We had a terrible travel day getting to Madeira, and didn't arrive to the hotel...

What can I say, a wonderful holiday in such a fantastic location. Rita and her staff were so lovely, could not do enough for us. We stayed in the Junior Suite as it was our silver wedding anniversary and it was delightful. We had three evening meals there which were definately worth every penny (15 euros, each). Breakfasts were something...

We selected the quinta based on the precedent reviews of Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. The hosts are great, the B&B is superb with stunning views over Funchal. We spent our time walking back and forth to and from Funchal it is a good 20 mns walk, which can be demanding if you do not like walking but taxis...

The gates of the quinta opened to reveal a large garden with a pretty house and amazing views over the whole of the city of Funchal. We were shown to a lovely airy room looking onto Rita's banana plantation with flowering geraniums tumbling down a sunny wall. The play of light and shadow was beautiful. The house is large and...

I can only echo everything the previous writer said! A wonderful little place, the suite with balcony is worth every penny!! A spectacular view. And, as said before, a huge bathroom & a four-poster bed. Rita and her staff are all so, so nice. They make you feel very welcome. Breakfast is all fresh and plentiful, and the evening meals...

This B&B gave us stunning views a beautiful room and a wonderful honeymoon. The owner (Rita) did everything in and out (they helped a young baby eat her first proper food) of her power to make our stay and that of every guest there perfect. We stayed in the suite with the balcony and this upgrade is definitely worth it...
