Not what we were expecting. Very basic evening meal and not for adults. The roof top bar was hired out to private parties and what was most shocking is that children were part of the party. Not acceptable in an adults only complex. Would not stay again.
From check-in to check-out our experience at this hotel was first class. It is an adults only hotel which is exactly what we wanted. We had an sea-view Junior Suite on the 7th floor which appeared like new. Very fresh and clean with excellent views over the ocean. There is a table and a couple of chairs on the balcony. All the usual amenities in the room (including Kettle) with a small seated area as well as a sofa. A plus point was the mini-fridge which just comes with 2 bottles of water and then you have the ability to keep a few drinks in when not at the bar. (perfect for sundowners on the balcony before going for dinner) We stayed half board and despite some of the comments on TA, the food was good and varied including a show cooking area for specials at breakfast and dinner. (one small point - plates could be hotter and sometimes the food out needed to be hotter as well) Pool area has plenty of sunbeds and we were always able to find free beds. (Small point, maybe consider more umbrellas vice just the fixed ones you already have. The pool area never felt over crowded despite the hotel being full. The staff are a real credit to the brand and the hotel. All were super friendly, helpful and always took time to have a little chat with all the guests. The Assistant Manager deserves a special mention, always on the look-out to help and say hello. He helped us with advise on places to go visit, wine to choose with dinner as well as just being extremely welcoming. (Sorry didnt get his name but know he was from Porto) Even told us a bit about the Barcelo group and their plans for the island and elsewhere. Cleaning and Covid standards were high everywhere with all areas always being cleaned and cleaned again. Great location with an easy stroll into Funchal, lots of shops , restaurants and bars close by as well as just across the road from a red and yellow hop on/hop off bus stops. Will come back again. Big thanks to all the staff for making our holiday so good.…
Spent a week here. Main plus is the staff who are great. Lovely pool (tho be aware its not heated - not a problem for me, but perhaps for others) Breakfast choices quite large Although we had half-board we only used used the restaurant for dinner a few times, enjoying the local restaurants a great deal.
I arrived in Madeira on 2nd May and stayed in the Allegro Hotel in the lido district of Funchal. I have no complaints at all with this hotel and would happily recommend to anyone wanting to visit Funchal. This is my first time here and will not be my last. Accommodation is first rate and the staff make you feel very welcomed.
Visited for a week and arrived at lunch time but room was not ready so stored luggage and returned at 2. We have booked a standard room but we’re pleased to find we had a sea and pool view on floor 3 with morning to mid day sun. Room was very comfortable and quiet and the beds were amazing with thick mattress toppers we slept well all week which is rare! Breakfast was excellent from 7.30 with a full range of hot and cold options and we thoroughly enjoyed dinner every night from 7.00 again excellent choices every night cooked to perfection and restaurant and kitchen staff all very helpful and attentive. Location is around 20/25 minutes walk to Funchal which was fine for us but if you were looking to eat out I’d maybe stay nearer the centre. Fantastic roof terrace with excellent live music from a local band called spot the difference such a chilled out area and very pleasant indeed. Pool area was lovely and very quiet the entire week with pool towels provided in the room. We hired a car for 2 days and car parking was 5 euro per night. If we returned to Funchal we would stay at the hotel for sure. We were delayed 23 hrs going home and Jet2 put us up in a hotel which was supposed to be 5 star….. we wished we could have returned to the Allegro instead!!…
Fantastic hotel to stay in. Great location close to the city centre and on the bus route. Good surrounding restaurants especially La Tricoloure. The 360 roof top bar is amazing with great views. The staff were all amazing and very professional. Would recommend this hotel and Madeira in general, 100%
The Hotel was Excellent, Ultra-Modern, Clean, Excellent Friendly Hardworking Staff. We were made very welcome and the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Couldn't have asked for more. We will definitely return!
Stayed here in April 2022 for 7 nights. Have stayed at the Eden Mar before so knew the location of this hotel was great before we arrived. Located by the bus stop for the municipal bus and the Hop on Hop off tourist buses and lots of bars and restaurants. check in was fast & easy, we had a sea view room on the 5th floor overlooking the pool. Rooms are basic and very clean. Bed was extremely comfortable and bed linen was clean and good quality, the pillows we had were soft and lumpy but there is a pillow menu and my husband ordered some orthopaedic pillows. The only thing that was missing was pillow protectors, I like to see these on hotel pillows, it is a must for me. The pillow cases were not good either, they are tubes and both ends are open so the ends of the pillows hang out. The bathroom was nice and clean, the toilet flushed well, the walk-in shower was brilliant with a good flow and lots of hot water. All toiletries are provided, large bottles of shampoo and conditioner in the shower, a large liquid hand soap, a shaving kit and tooth brushes, so really don’t need to take these with you for a short break. Breakfast was good, choice was reasonable, would have liked some cereals, cornflakes or rice krispies the selection looked uninviting. Would have like some jam and some fresh juices. The first two days there was a sort of orange juice but after that there was some kind of watery pineapple juice, which I didn’t touch. It was nice to have some peace and quiet by the pool and at breakfast without babies and kids running around. However the noise was a little disturbed by dog barking, this particular dog lives in one of the houses in front of the pool wall and the barking did get on our nerves a little. Also the room doors are on a really strong closing mechanism and we seemed to be the only ones who closed the door quietly, we were woken nearly every morning and disturbed at night by doors constantly slamming along the corridor, it was really loud and annoying. There is a lovely Turkish steam room and sauna, this is free and you can book this for an hour slot, we did this 3 times, which was a nice bonus. The staff & management were very friendly and attentive. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay - would more than likely stay here again.…
The hotel is lovely and clean and new. The rooms are also clean and functional but no thought seems to have gone into the design. No where to put clothes apart from an open rail. It is worth upgrading to the sea view as the other rooms have a poor view. The hotel is a bit like a travel lodge. Functional and clean but nothing extra. No happy hour or entertainment. The breakfast was ok but the evening meal was not great. I certainly wouldn’t stay half board. The hotel below has happy hour each night 5-7 which is great. The Indian across the road was our best meal. Overall, I nice stay but I wouldn’t return. I like to be treated to a little more luxury and those small touches. To be fair, the price reflects this and so I can’t complain.
Stayed at the Allegro Madeira for 6 nights in April 2022 and overall it was a great location and value. We got a junior suite with balcony and breakfast included. Location was fantastic: - Lido bus stop 1 minute walk away - From the Lido bus stop you can get to the airport (5 euros each way or 8 euros roundtrip) - From this bus stop you can also go into town (or its a nice 30 min walk) - You can buy bus tickets and get a covid test 2 min walk away in the Monument building - Tons of restaurants nearby Breakfast: - Great selection (fruit, breads, hot food section, omelette bar, espresso machine, champagne) with both indoor and outdoor seating. Room: - We were upgraded to a junior suite. No frills but functional and cleaned daily. Balcony is a plus! Next time, I would be sure to ask for a room on a high floor as the views are much better. We were on floor 4, could see the sea but was noisy while out on the balcony. Rooftop: - Excellent place to watch sunset with panoramic views of funchal. Wish it was open earlier in the day (believe it opens at 4 pm) Overall, great stay and value!…
