From arriving at the reception to being shown our beautiful suite and our superb stay every aspect of this fabulous hotel ticked all boxes. Tranquil, relaxing with first class attention to detail. Brilliant staff and facilities. The pool and gardens were immaculate and well maintained. It was a joy to meet Columbo.

A lovely, good sized room with great view of tropical gardens, excellent food and superb staff. The Hotel is a good walk into town however a free shuttle service is available. A wonderful place to stay

For a peaceful holiday, it is hard to imagine a better hotel to relax in. The staff are all so welcoming and always have a smile for you. The gardens are so beautiful, the pool very inviting, and the food excellent (with one or two minor exceptions - I think the Portuguese idea of veal is different to the English idea of veal - but service always impeccable. The rooms and the gardens all remarkably quiet, being away from any noisy streets. Nothing to prevent you sleeping at any time!

We stayed a week in a superior balcony room overlooking the beautiful and spacious botanical gardens.The hotel was top class in every way . Service was exceptional with every member of staff fully committed to ensuring guests were well looked after.Accommodation , Dining, Pool area , Bars were all of a high standard. We would choose no other hotel in Funchal when visiting Madeira.

My husband and I wanted a relaxing week, we have been to Madeira 4 times before. This hotel far exceeded our expectations, very quiet with lovely attentive staff and wonderful food. The gardens were amazingly well kept with various little corners to sit and read. A very big thank you to all the staff and hopefully we will be back very soon.

Wonderful stay, which left us feeling relaxed and well looked after. The quite 5 star unobtrusive service, consistently delivered, made our stay a joy. Our needs were anticpated without request and this hotel truly deserves its glowing reviews and high rating. We were smiling from the time of our arrival to the moment of departure. The location outside the centre of Funchal is an oasis with beautiful gardens and a relaxing pool. The free shuttle service to the city centre runs regularly and needs to be booked. It accommodated us when it was full, without any difficulty by running an extra journey. Breakfast and restaurant service at the hotel had a wide choice and excellent service. Ample parking space allowed us to use our rental car easily. A thoroughly relaxing break.

Not sure how to start. Splendid room with wonderful view of tropical gardens, great food and good staff. The Quinta Jardins Do Lago was built as a traditional grand house in the 18th century. It embodies traditional Portuguese architecture and has been converted into a luxurious hotel. Our room was a very good size with a large balcony overlooking an extensive and well cared for tropical garden. Our meals were extremely well prepared and most enjoyable. The service was impeccable. I should add that it is a good walk into town but a free shuttle service is provided which takes about 10 minutes to the port. All round a splendid place to stay. JohnS Newbury March 2023.

A thoroughly enjoyable return to this delightful hotel, with its beautiful gardens, kind and thoughtful staff, and ineffable giant tortoise, Colombo. We were made so welcome at all times, and it seems nothing is too much trouble. The regular shuttle bus into the city is a real bonus, and the staff on Reception always seem to be available to fix anything you need. Special thanks to our shuttle bus driver, who was very kind in assisting me in and out of the vehicle as I have slight mobility issues. Breakfasts are a stand-out, with an extensive buffet including cheese, meat, fruits and nuts, as well as a range of breads. Hot dishes are prepared to order and there is a wide range to choose from. It’s lovely to have ‘proper’ linen napkins and tablecloths, with good heavy cutlery; you can choose to sit inside, out on the elegant terrace as we did, or down the steps in the garden. Evening meals in the restaurant are always of a high standard, but Reception staff will also happily recommend other restaurants and book them for you. There’s also a bistro by the pool which is open most of the day. I should say that with one exception, the hotel restaurant was definitely better than the other options we sampled. Guests tend, unsurprisingly, towards older English couples, but there were a few who were younger – even a couple with a baby. This time we had a third-floor room with a balcony, where we spent a lot of time just taking in the peaceful scene of the gardens below, and the lights at night. We hope to return again. …

Fantastic hospitality - wonderful supportive and friendly staff - excellent food - great setting - lovely gardens and facilities. In short it would be a great place to visit over and over again. This was our third time there and can't wait to go back next year.
