We stayed at this hotel (a family of 7) over New Year to celebrate my Father's 85th birthday and were very happy with everything. Having stayed at the Porto Santa Maria on a couple of occasions we were disappointed to find they no longer allow...More

I was given a trip to this hotel by my husband as a special birthday treat and mainly went to Funchal for the fireworks of 2013 which were fantastic, an experience in itself and the hotel opened the roof terrace for an even higher view....More

Right from the taxi transport from the airport, the welcome at reception, the room and the service, everything was first class plus! Service depends on people, and the staff were excellent. The choice offered for both breakfast and dinner was varied and the quality first...More

Always a gamble booking a hotel but this one was great. We chose it because of its character and its location in the Old Town. We had B and B, partly on the advice of other reviewers, and it was definitely the right thing to...More

No, unfortunately, but if you take it easy and make a couple of stops, the walk up from the Rue da Santa Maria is not too bad and it is worth it as the hotel is exceptional.

No kettle in rooms, just a fridge with drinks which you have to pay for if you use any. We emptied out the fridge for our own drinks. No heating in rooms either but there are spare blankets in the wardrobe
