This was my first holiday since 2019 due to Covid. Madeira had always been on the radar to visit. It did not disappoint and what a lovely hotel to add to the enjoyment. Staff are all very friendly and helpful and reception/bar/pool and outdoor terrace areas very welcoming. We were offered a complimentary glass of the local Madeira wine on arrival- nice touch! We had a sea view room which was such a bonus to be able to enjoy the beautiful views on offer. We stayed on b & b enabling us to visit local restaurants of which there were plenty within walking distance. Breakfast was plentiful with a great choice of fresh fruits, cheese and meats together with cooked options, pastries, cereals etc. there is the lovely touch of sparkling wine if you’d like it too. We walked into the centre of Funchal many times during our stay and was an easy 40 min stroll. The hotel offers a courtesy coach both ways if you’d prefer. We took an open top yellow bus tour over two days which is to be recommended. You can do as much or as little as you like on this beautiful island and we made the most of our week’s stay taking organised trips to the west and east coasts. A trip up the cable car and taking the traditional wicker basket sledges part of the way down is a must. We were lucky enough to be in Madeira for a local flower festival and enjoyed the parade through the town on Sunday. To conclude the hotel and island exceeded all my expectations and we hope to return again some day. If you are looking for a relaxing break with great hospitality, cuisine and the most amazing scenery you are sure not to be disappointed.…
I can’t fault this hotel, we really enjoyed our stay here. The views from the bar terrace are brilliant, a nice place to have a pre meal drink. The staff across the hotel are extremely helpful and polite, and replied quickly to a few pre holiday questions I emailed to them. Our room was clean and modern. I liked the way the cleaning staff left a little tray of treats each day which I’m sure cuts down on food waste too. There are 2 pools, inside and outside, a small gym, spa facilities and some yoga / exercise classes out on. We didn’t use all of these but there is plenty for everyone. Breakfast is a buffet with everything you could want. Location wise, it’s a 15 minute walk towards a busier restaurant area but there are lots of shops and restaurants closer. Old town is a 45 minute walk away. It is on a busy road with some building work taking place but this didn’t bother us as we were often out exploring Madeira. We had an evening meal in one of the 2 restaurants once, there is a buffet and a more formal restaurant. Again food was good and no complaints!…
I'll start with the highlights: clean and big rooms, a good bed, a big and silent fridge, a big bathroom, a balcony with Seaview (if booked). The cleaning ladies are fast and they do a very good job. I hung the "cleaning sign" on the door, after an hour the room was done - so 2 thumbs up. I loved the breakfast - tasty and a big variety of al. kinds of breakfast treats. The Wi-Fi is free and reliable. The only thing I didn't like and that is not the fault of the hotel: it’s a little bit noisy (guests like to slam their doors on vacation). If you are a little noise intolerant like me, bring some earplugs for a good night sleep and some headphones for reading or for Netflix.
Really lovely hotel, with stunning views out to sea, and comfortable rooms with balconies. The rooms were clean, the food was lovely, and the staff were friendly and helpful, and really lovely! The hotel is close to a promenade walk along the top of the cliffs, and it’s a do-able walk into Funchal. The hotel’s pool area was clean and pleasant, the indoor pool was the same. The spa treatments were very good too. The only reason I haven’t given a rating of 5 is because the bar prices were very expensive - even a cup of coffee was much more expensive than cafes in the locale. But we have booked up to go back, so I can still highly recommend it.
Stayed at the Baia Azul for 1 week in February. The hotel is located towards the edge of Sao Martinho and is within walking distance to the Forum shopping centre /supermarket and the main road with bars/restaurants, plus promenade area. There was some building work around the complex but it didn't really affect us. The hotel looks to be refurbished recently and the rooms are spacious and extremely clean. Excellent views across the bay and great views from the salon/bar area across Funchal. The complex is spotless from top to bottom. Never any fear of covid in the complex and masks and gloves are worn throughout and during restaurant sittings. The food is mainly centred around northern european cuisine. A slight surprise no Portuguese or Madeiran specialities on offer but definitely edible. The indoor pool was great during cooler days and the outdoor pool was fantastic when the weather was hotter. Great bar by the pool too. The staff here are WONDERFUL! Every single staff member was so polite and interested in our stay in Madeira. Big thanks to Dalgada, Jorge Leao and Dora who made our stay so comfortable. The other staff members were also fantastic. The Sal Restaurant was a good choice for lunch, as was the pool bar with excellent snacks available. All in all we had a very good week here and we would like to thank the management team and all staff for such a comfortable stay. We would definitely return.…
I stayed for 1 week on a half board basis. I had a lovely room on 10th floor. The hotel is extremely clean. The food in the hotel is plentiful and hot with a good choice. The hotel is modern and bright. The views from the hotel are fantastic. All the staff are professional and friendly. There's live music every night and unlike some hotels the acts are professional artists. I'd like to give a special mention to Merissa at reception, she's always very helpful, knowledgeable and professional. I will definitely be returning again this year.
Baia Azul gives you everything you can dream of - and a little more. Spacious rooms with comfy beds, nice furniture and excellent views over the sea. Spotless cleaning every day. Opulent breakfast with lots of fruit, bread, cheeses, cold cuts, bacon, eggs, sausages, sweets - you name it. A gym. A pool. Sunbeds. Walking distance to several restaurants. The first night we ate at the hotel restaurant - black seafood pasta; it was excellent. In other words; you could live a life on Baia Azul without needs.
beautiful hotel Definitely recommend sea view rooms, sunrise is lovely Fairly quiet when we stayed thanks to covid Very clean and safe Staff were exceptional, especially the pool bar man and the sundeck bar!! Great cocktails Not many places I'd say I'd stay again, but this would be one Fabulous restaurants by the Lido
We had really nice week's stay at Baia Azul. The hotel is beautiful and immaculately clean and tidy. The lobby had some lovely christmas decorations as well fitting the season. We had a room on 10th floor with the sea view; it was AMAZING. Really enjoyed to watch the sunrise from the balcony. Breakfast was wonderful with lots of options. Hotel is located some way from the city centre, but taxis were around 10 € and the hotel also offered a free shuttle bus service few times a day. We also walked to the city centre many times, since the weather was so good :) Area is nice, there are many restaurants, nice promenade near the sea and a shopping centre. Pool area of the hotel was great with a lovely sea view and comfy sunbeds. Nice place to enjoy the sun and sip a good mojito :)
Had a week here and enjoyed the hotel and location. Our sea facing room was lovely - although I would probably ask for a slightly lower floor next time as the 10th floor didn't agree with my vertigo... The breakfasts were great - although you are better avoiding the peak times as they can get busy. We made regular use of the free bus into Funchal and ate at several restaurants in the local area... The staff were excellent and very helpful...
