This is a great little old-fashioned hotel. The breakfast is very good, and the position excellent, and there is 24-hour reception. What I really liked is the spaciousness. The rooms are large, the balconies are large, the communal areas are large. The hotel has 'character', but in my opinion the photos no way do justice to how gracious the living... More

We stayed on the 3rd floor for a week in October 2016 as a group of 8 friends. Rooms were clean and staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast suited us well since we prefer a light start to the day. We would recommend this hotel and may well return in the near future.

We stayed at this hotel for a week in September in room 102. It is on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the cathedral and main street and a few hundred yards from the port. The tourist office is just along the street. We loved the location as we could watch the world go by. The top floor residents'... More

Lovely hope, right in the centre of Funchal. Spotlessly clean and friendly staff. Breakfast was adequate, and could have done with a bit more choice. No bar in hotel, but there were loads of bars/restaurants close by. The only downside of this hotel is that there was no fridge in the room (or any of the rooms) which was a... More

We booked here by coincidence as we needed accommodation for only one night in town before a quite early flight home. The hotel is a real design gem with original early 20th century features. Recommend to book the room with balcony towards the cathedral, really nice view! But there might be some noise from returning clubbers in the night.

Got a twin room on the 5th floor after our flight was cancelled. Was pleasantly surprised how clean and comfortable the room was and it also had a nice balcony with a view of the city. Breakfast was basic but very nice and the receptionist was very helpful and couldn't have done more for us. Would recommend.

We stayed here for 3 nights. On the first night, we arrived late and were given a terrible room but as we were tired we stayed in it but asked to be moved the following morning. Then we were given a good room on the top floor, this room was good and we had 2 comfortable nights there. We enjoyed... More

We stayed here our last night in Funchal and it was a bargain. Yes- the lobby reminds one of Twin Peaks and the room furniture has definitely been better days, but we still enjoyed sipping wine on our terrace as the sunset behind the cathedral. The AC dripped and the show curtain was falling off the wall. You get the... More

Overall the hotel is okay. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was basic but fairly comfortable.Breakfast was basic but edible.A bit more variety would have been nice though. The 5th floor balcony that looks out across the Cathedral and harbour is a bonus. The main plus point of this hotel is it's location. It really is in the middle of everything.Considering the low... We had a room on the first floor with a balcony that looked out onto the streets of Madeira. Lovely view. The hotel was very clean and in a great location the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. It provided a continental style and some hot food. The bread and rolls were fresh and very tasty. I... More
